lock the door to your room
pray they don't find us
pray they don't kick it down
oh you've been keeping secrets
and these kind of lies
have consequences
so many possibilities
for this to all end badly
it's almost guaranteed
nothing but shame and paranoia
a slightly desperate feeling
to calm you to sleep

what could we have done
to deserve the violence like this

and we'll watch a lot
coming under the door
listen for footsteps
coming down the hall
are you gonna wake up screaming
through a slit throat
young flesh searing
on a twin mattress
but it doesn't have to be
the way things end
we don't have to give up just yet

It's pretty hilarious to look at the comments below, in light of Laura's transition and coming out.

This album should have put her in the world's most transparent closet, but somehow nobody put it all together ^_^

My guess: Murder. Whose? Not sure. Anyone's I guess. Always reminds me of "In Cold Blood" (the book).

I think it is about being lied to and about, then hiding from the lies as they attack. Attack Violently.

I'm thinking this is about hate crimes. "oh you've been keeping secrets and these kinds of lies have consequences" i.e. you're gay and we know it and it's wrong so we're going to kill you.

shame, paranoia...it all ties into the hate crime theme.

This song is about domestic abuse. The implication that it's specifically child abuse. If anyone has ever suffered or been around domestic abuse, this conveys a very personal sentiment concerning it. From a psychological standpoint, I'd say that whichever member wrote this song has probably suffered domestic abuse or known someone very personally who has. The use of the term "young flesh searing on a twin mattress" is an implication of a child pretending to be asleep while the "footsteps coming down the hall" of the abusive parent approach. You can play this song very well over a muted video of Aerosmith's "Janey's Got a Gun" for an illustrative example...

Actually, I just played the song to the video muted, and it syncs up perfectly, and that's really creepy. Here: youtube.com/watch Try it^^. Just start the song and then a second later start the video.

i figured prison, honestly, but the child abuse angle seems to be appropriate too.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
