This Time Lyrics

All seems wasted now you comb your hair
While your eyes search for a backdoor to get out
All you could do was to leave your deeds at the door
As you entered this room of sickness and doubt

But I saw you put down the memories in your coat just before
Now you want to drink but need someone to pour
To pour your heart out

This time
You know this is real
When you’re scared to reveal
This time
Could you leave this now
Even if you knew how
This time
Looking over your shoulder
You have become older
This time
Are you afraid to die?

With nothing left the pressure is off
To become all you needed to survive
With a color black you would not be blessed
In a church that decides color and puts a price
On a paradise you now seem to know so well
But I know
I see Jesus in your eyes so kiss the sky… and leave this now
Now I have seen what grace looks like

This time
You know this is real
When you’re scared to reveal
This time
Could you leave this now
Even if you knew how
This time
Looking over your shoulder
You have become older
This time
Are you afraid to die?

We had an intimate talk
With God you and I
Me with my words
And you in silence
All you said was
I liked that
But I saw Jesus in your eyes

This time
You know this is real
When you have nothing more to reveal
This time
Would you leave this now
Even if you knew how
This time
Looking over your shoulder
You have become older
This time
You’re not afraid to die

Cover art for This Time lyrics by Blindside

I recently saw Blindside live, and Christian explained the meaning behind this song before they played it. In the time between the release of "About a Burning Fire" and the recording of the new album, Christian made a mission trip to central Africa. While there, he met a man who was on his deathbed, dying of AIDS. I don't remember the guy's name, but he mentioned it. But any ways Christian talked to, comforted and got to know this man as he lay dying there on the bed. He said he know he had saved his soul, hence the "But I saw Jesus in your eyes." The comforting is shown with the last ling "You're not afraid to die." Christian got the man to understand that death is not the end, only a new beginning. This song blew my mind live, it was the only time I've ever heard a slow song in this setting and the crowd didn't start to get angry that they weren't rocking out. The crowd hung on to his every word, even though noone but Christian knew the lyrics. It was amazing. Quite possibly the most amazing song off the new album

plguitarist, I'm confirming your post about the song, as I too recently saw Blindside in Grand Rapids, MI. Everything you said is dead on.

Cliff notes: The song is about bringing somebody on their death bed to Christ.
