Sleepwalking Lyrics

Words so secure screaming like an alarm
Are you trying to wake me up
Now what was that you were trying to pull
Is it my arm
I do believe you're trying to wake me up

But could it be maybe
It's not me sleeping
Could it be maybe you awakening

Sleep this time tonight
Sleepwalk in the light
Sleep this time tonight (one day we'll)
Sleepwalk out of sight

Now here I am, but I'm just sleepwalking
Yes here I stand
But I guess I'm just sleeptalking for myself

But could it be maybe
It's not me sleeping
Could it be maybe you awakening

Sleep this time tonight
Sleepwalk in the light
Sleep this time tonight (one day we'll)
Sleepwalk out of sight

One day this world will see me at the horizon
One day from a distant light
And just before I stand to face my love
I'll turn around
And with a smile I'll say my goodbyes
Just one last goodbye
Goodbye

This song is INCREDIBLE live! Go see Blindside if you get the chance!

Here's my take on this song: The lyricist asks the question "Are you trying to wake me up?" then questions, "but could it be maybe, it's not me sleeping. Could it be maybe you awakening?"

He continues to speak of himself supposedly sleepwalking, though he questions again, "could it be maybe you awakening?" I think he is talking of being asleep spiritually, and how everyone thinks he is the one sleeping, when really he's the one who's awake.

"(One day we'll) sleepwalk out of sight"

Then the bridge: "One day this world will see me at the horizon." I think this is speaking of death. "One day from a distant light." I think the distant light is heaven. "And just before I stand to face my love," I think his love is God. "I'll turn around and with a smile I'll say my goodbyes, just one last goodbye. Goodbye." He turns and says goodbye to the world.

When he whispers "Goodbye," the music stops, then starts again so hard and beautiful, with crazy intensity. The screams of "goodbye" at the end help to make this one of my favorite songs. A song of people sleeping spiritually, all the while thinking the Christians are the ones sleeping, when really only those who are Christians are awake spiritually. And finally a song that speaks of that glorious day when the Christian finally stands face to face with his love, Christ.

Well, thats my take on it. Maybe I took it too far. What do y'all think?

That would be a pretty ignorant statement by the artists of Blindside if you were correct, you can be of any religion or not be part of one at all and still be a spiritual person. Religion is far different from being spiritual, in fact I think more atheists are spiritual than people in Religion.

Not Valid

@gartley86 In 2004, I had just graduated high school a year before and listened to this all the time and wasn’t a Christian. Fast forward to 2023 and I’m so in love with Jesus. Love your interpretation of it!

to me this song means this: The first verse he talks about he's sleeping spiritually and God is waking him up. Sleeping spiritually is a metaphor for going through the motives as a christian. Physically he's doing it all, but it's not heartfelt. Second verse, he notices he's trying to convince himself he's fine, and he's thinking that's just him "sleeptalking" to himself. Just another effect of sleepwalking. Like, he's comfortable in his spot and doesn't want to admit he's not doing good. If he does admit it, he'd have to change. The bridge, he's forseeing what his death will be like, just before he goes to be judged by Jesus. The chorus is a little tougher, but here's my try on it: Sleepwalk in the light, during the day as a christian he's sleepwalking. Then during the night, he physically sleeps. I guess he's saying that's his day, he "sleepwalks" during daylight and the light. Yeah, I made this accout 5 minutes ago and that's my first outtake on a song here...^^;

To me what this song is him seeing his sinful self, and maybe it's not him seeing his sinful self, but God showing him his sinful self. Sleeping and sleep walking shows that he still has a sinful nature, but that he can rest in his imperfection, because he's the God who is awakening inside of him is leading him toward the light. He's not brought there by his own consciousness, he's asleep, it is God who brings him there. The light his the presence of God, his love. And in the chorus it's like the words of God are guiding him toward the light, giving further creedance to my interpretation of the song

@Jmurnahan I didn't mean to put that he's the God that's awakened inside of him. Remove the word "he" from that sentence and that's what I'm saying

I'm going to add my thoughts again because I butchered the last one

This song is the person seeing his sinful self. He sees himself as sleeping, like other commenters said, spiritually sleeping, a sinner. But maybe it's not him recognizing that he's sleeping, but God awakening inside of him showing him his sinful self. In other words, he's not seeing himself as sinful by his own ability, but by God beginning to move in his heart.

The chorus: sleep and sleep walking shows he still has a sinful nature and that he sins, but that he can rest in his imperfection because God is moving him toward the light. He is not moving himself by his own consciousness, but rather God, who is awakening within him, is moving him. in other words God's beginning to move his heart, causing the man to turn from the world (sinful lifestyle) to God, in other words repent, and he's walking toward the light by the power and will of God, not by his own efforts, since salvation is 100% God and we give Him no help in our salvation. The light is God, the mans love. The chorus itself may be the word of God telling him to walk away from the world, his sinful ways, to the light. Maybe that's why it sounds hypnotizing

When he says goodbye one last time, I think that means that up until the moment of his death he will still have a sinful nature and look back toward his sinful life, which probably means both the temptation to go back to the old sinful life style or the occasional sin, but at some point, when he he dies and reaches the light, his love, God, Jesus, he will say goodbye to sin forever, forever having something better. As far as the bitter sweet music sound, It's not him who's losing the world, but the world who's losing him to Christ
