Pitiful Lyrics

As I recall with my stomach turning
I was hiding away from myself, away from you
Like nothing, though something was terribly wrong
And I admit that I was only waiting for the right time
Night time, the right moment for you to look away
Though you never did, I pretended for a while
So I could walk where I don't belong

And I remember every word you said
Come back in time, come back
And I remember I would soon be dead
Pitiful, so pitiful

But I know, as I hammered those nails into your beautiful hands
Your eyes still try to search for mine, but I look away
Now your eyes are the only thing that can save me
I'm still so afraid of them piercing
You're breaking into my prison,
Just pretended for a while
My soul is dying
I won't look away

And I remember every word you said
Come back in time, come back
And I remember I would soon be dead
Pitiful, so pitiful

I'll remember every word you said
This time I won't look away

And I remember every word you said
Come back in time, come back
And I remember I would soon be dead
Pitiful, so pitiful

I'm not trying to piss a load of people off but I wanna Make a point to everyone one this christian debate. So many of the people who have commented on this song who are clearly Christian are invalidating any other resposes by saying its just about Jesus and any other stuff is wrong. The band is Christian but songs are written t speak to ANYONE who feels them not just those who see a message for god. The beauty of a lot of songs is that the intended meaning doesnt really have to mean shit. All that matters is what people feel about a song. I get sick of Christians acting like these are thier bands and everyone should find jesus through them and if the don't they're wrong. Anyways the song is amazing and I love how honestly emotional the delivery is. This song has helped me through a lot and I felt the need to claim my right to love it without thinking about it as being about jesus.

What this song means to ME (And I'm sure it means different things to everyone who listens to it, christian, atheist, or otherwise) is the horrible feeling of sin, and the hope, and the freedom that Jesus Christ offers. I've been a christian all my life, and I'm deeply in love with Jesus, but I'm not perfect. I fell into sin for about two years (pornography and masturbation). The thing about living a double life (The outside person who's so in love with God, and the inside person bound by sin and hopelessness) is the atmosphere that you live your life in. You feel hopeless, confused, ashamed... pitiful. (And let me clear up that it is not GOD Himself who makes you feel like this, it is YOU who condemns yourself, YOU who beats yourself up). See, you live your life feeling like a piece of dirt for continuing to betray the price that Jesus paid so that you don't HAVE to sin anymore. What almost makes it worst is that His (God's, Jesus') voice never goes away, His eyes never stop burning in jealousy for your heart; You realize that TRULY nothing, not even this great, tumultuous sin can separate you from His love for you, which makes you (make yourself) feel... pitiful. And you find yourself wanting to go back in time to that pinnacle moment that led you down this hellish road, so that you can scream at yourself not to do it. This song to me is a storyboard of what falling into sin looks and feels like after you've been so in love with Jesus. When you're on that horrid road you'll watch yourself hammer the nails into His hands, watch yourself betray those loving eyes, all the while not even daring to look Him in the face. But He'll still be there, waiting for you, pleading for you to except the exit He created in your prison. Because the truth is you'll never escape His voice calling you, or His eyes just looking and waiting to catch your own. You'll never run away from His love for you - there's no wall of any substance that could hide you from it. So you have a choice: Continue to force your gaze away from Him, or let His eyes save you.

He set me free, by the way. I'm no longer bound by pornography and masturbation. He set me free in a single heartbeat by His amazing grace (not by ANY strength of my own). He'll do the same for you too.

Yes this song is awesome. I am not a huge fan of christian-rock, but you gotta love the nice, uplifting message.

Anyway, there are a few flaws in the submitted lyrics. 1) On the chorus, it isn't "And I remember I would soon be dead", but it is "And I remember I was too beaten."

2) Also, instead of "My soul is dying", Peter is sayng "My soul is tired, and I won't look away."

ok kids, this is just to clear everything up (look at pedro the lion and cool hand luke and you'll see i do a bit of this). i read the lyrics in the lyrics book thing and listened to the song at the same time to make sure i got everything right. if you're just reading the lyrics, and basing mine on them, let me explain something: at the end of the chorus ("Pitiful, so pitiful") the lyrics book says "Now so pitiful, so pitiful" but when i listened to the song, he never says "Now so" so that's why i didn't include that in these posted lyrics.

those of you that understand, Thank you.

Blindside. Amazing.

This song seems to be about religious backsliding... it talks about how he hammers the nails into Jesus' hands and tries to avoid what he knows he needs when in the end, he longs soo much for what Jesus has for him.... eh, whatever it means, the song is freakin amazing and one of the best I've heard from them in a long time... rock on.

I agree with the religious setting of this song. But as I listened more to the CD it got me thinking. Is Blindside a christian-based band? Let me know.
