Cute Boring Love Lyrics
Thank God for freedom
Thank God for liberation
(She said) Now we are allowed to think
Now we are allowed to feel lust without cute boring love
Long for purity
Don't you ever
Get sick of our territories
What made you so afraid to feel
To chose a stone cold liberation
The one thing I hate most about me
Is the one thing you want to make your trademark
To feel lust without cute boring love
Long for purity
Don't you ever
Get sick of our territories
Don't you ever feel like glass
Fragile, hurting, letting it pass
Don't you think it's time to trespass
Who are you?
What are you so scared of sister?
I'm just as scared as you

you all have basically said this but ill post anyway... the 1st few lines of the song say a lot (what shes saying to him) "She said what I was supposed to think 'Thank God for freedom Thank God for liberation' (She said) 'Now we are allowed to think Now we are allowed to feel lust without cute boring love' " the girls for whatever reason is afraid of having more than something temporary.(real love) and is saying why love when we can be so liberal about it all.(casual sex w/random people or what have you) when she says cute boring love she tells herself thats all it is,she wants believe she has freedom and she can do whatever she wants.
"What are you so scared of sister What made you so afraid to feel To chose a stone cold liberation The one thing I hate most about me Is the one thing you want to make your trademark To feel lust without cute boring love"
hes just asking her why she feels that way.hes scared too but wants more. but when he says 'cute boring love' hes being sarcastic(or mocking her)...he knows theres more to it.

This is what I get from the song. Some of you may agree, some of you may not. My comments are in [brackets]
She said what I was supposed to think Thank God for freedom Thank God for liberation (She said) Now we are allowed to think Now we are allowed to feel lust without cute boring love
[When it says "Thank God for Freedom, Thank God for Liberation", this could refer to earlier times before Women's liberation, when sexual freedom and expression were more taboo than they are and she is thankful that she is no longer restrained by that, but conversely, that freedom now allows people to want to feel nothing but lust instead of true love, which Christian, the singer, calls "Cute Boring Love" to refer to it as how someone who is only sexually obsessed would refer to it"
But don't you ever just like me Long for purity Don't you ever Get sick of our territories
[I'm Pretty sure he is asking if he feels like him in wanting to feel true love and be pure at heart, instead of have nothing but sex. The territories may refer to uncivilized animal-like behavior of having territorial matings, as in how when one is only sex-obsessed like an animal]
What are you so scared of sister What made you so afraid to feel To chose a stone cold liberation The one thing I hate most about me Is the one thing you want to make your trademark To feel lust without cute boring love
[He is asking her what closed her heart or drove her to the "Stone Cold Liberation" which I would assume would be some sort of sexual liberation. The writer also has had this sexual liberation and he hates himself for it.]
But don't you ever just like me Long for purity Don't you ever Get sick of our territories Don't you ever feel like glass Fragile, hurting, letting it pass Don't you think it's time to trespass
[He urges her to "trespass" or walk into an unknown territory. The word trespass hints at a fear of continuance into a new path]
But when the fire is gone Who are you? What are you so scared of sister? I'm just as scared as you
[After this sexual liberation has finished, or after the sex dies, what is left?]

As we all know they are Christians, yes it has been said many times. People struggle with things... its obvious in this song that he is saying one of his weak points is lust.... "The one thing i hate most about me.. is the one thing you wanna make your trademark" He doesnt like that he struggles with it and obviously she isnt helping.... "to feel lust without cute boring love" It was said earlier in the song "(She said) Now we are allowed to think Now we are allowed to feel lust without cute boring love.... it says SHE SAID...... He struggles with this lust and here comes along this girl who he really likes... she isnt willing to settle down... she just wants sex... he is saying "Dont you ever just like me? Long for purity...???". He longs for purity... he wants to be pure at heart and mind... before God... and its hard for him because he likes her and she wants to have sex with him... When he says "What are you so scared of sister? What makes you so afraid to feel"... he is saying... why are you scared to love, why are you scared to have feelings for someone... he wants to get to the root of it...... "to chose this STONE COLD liberation". Stone cold... we all know what that means, liberation... we all know what that means... whyy are you so scared? Why do you chose this stone cold liberation over what could be... we could be... "Sister" Its so obvious that he cares about her... it is not casual sex... thats crap. He is a decent guy who has struggles.... he calls this girl sister... which means he cares for her a lot".
Great song.. shows the heart of the man... the stuggles of a man.... Blindside are great guys...

I agree with a lot of these comments, but I would like to add something. I think that he's talking to the group of women that believe they have the freedom to lust and push those thoughts on to other people. A lot of women in today's society feel this way, and he's not narrowing in on one specific girl. The use of "sister" in the lyrics indicates that he cares about this group of women and he feels he's in a position to comment on their lifestlyes like a brother should. It also shows he is not sexually interested in women like this, even though he may have similar struggles. Just a thought.

Very good point about his use of "sister," edmonds7. Nobody has really made much sense of the lines: "Thank God for freedom, Thank God for liberation." In light of the lust theme, Blindside may be asserting that sin (lust) has us bound in chains, and if we love like God loves us, we can be freed from our bondage. Paul talks about finding freedom in Christ in many of his letters (Galatians 5:1). Being liberated from our sinful lust will allow us to long for a love that is pure, God's love ('don't you ever long for purity?').

This song has so much meaning to me and my actual sister. My sister and I are best friends, and after I found out she was having sex I found myself in my room crying and writing down these lyrics for her after listening to them for the first time. She was 15, the same age I was when I started having sex, and it hurt me so bad to know she was making the same mistakes I had made. At that time, it seemed like the lyrics came directly from my heart.
She said what I was supposed to think Thank God for freedom Thank God for liberation (She said) Now we are allowed to think Now we are allowed to feel lust without cute boring love (It seems like 15 was the age for both of us, that we decided we could do what we wanted, that we didn't have to follow the rules of our parents, but that we could listen to what the world was saying, and have sex without cute boring love. To me cute boring love, is just an innocent love that isn't about sex or anything else but love. The kind of love where you could just be with someone and just hold their hand and be content. The kind of love that used to be in movies, but now all the world shows is sex) (The rest of this is what I felt I was saying to my sister when I wrote down these lyrics for her)
But don't you ever just like me Long for purity Don't you ever Get sick of our territories (I wish I could just be pure, and take back everything I had ever done.Do you really want to have sex, or if its just cause its what we are "supposed" to do, what our territories say that we should do. Especially after already having sex, its so easy to fall under these territories saying you have to do it)
What are you so scared of sister What made you so afraid to feel To chose a stone cold liberation ( Why did you choose sex over love? Why were you so afraid to wait, and really see if he did love you, or if he just wanted your body? Would you rather give yourself away then to feel regected) The one thing I hate most about me Is the one thing you want to make your trademark To feel lust without cute boring love (Having sex was a huge regret in my life, and you know that. It hurts so bad to watch you take my mistakes, and try them out for yourself. To have sex without being in love)
But don't you ever just like me Long for purity Don't you ever Get sick of our territories Don't you ever feel like glass Fragile, hurting, letting it pass Don't you think it's time to trespass ( Doesn't it hurt? To be so broken, to not feel loved, to give yourself away, and to brake even more every time, to be so fragile? Just stop, it's not too late)
But when the fire is gone Who are you? What are you so scared of sister? I'm just as scared as you (When he leaves, when there is no more passion, and no love behind it, how will you feel. Who will you be, are you going to become me? Why are you so scared to just stop? I am just as scared of you not...)

"She said what I was supposed to think."
The girl in the song said what is normally attributed to a guy thinking in his head.
"Thank God for freedom. Thank God for liberation. Now we are allowed to think. Now we are allowed to feel lust without cute, boring Love."
This furthers her thoughts by saying “We’re allowed to do whatever we want without feeling Love.
“But don't you ever, just like me, long for purity? Don't you ever get sick of our territories?”
He replies by asking if she ever gets tired of the way the world is now. Does she ever long for purity…
“What are you so scared of, Sister? What made you so afraid to feel”
What about Love scares her?
“To choose a stone cold liberation”
To choose something without any emotional feeling.
“The one thing I hate most about me is the one thing you want to make your trademark; To feel lust without cute boring love”
This is my favorite part of the song, because it’s such a powerful statement. It talks about how the thing he HATES most about himself, lust without Love, is the only thing she wants.
“But when the fire is gone, who are you?”
And when the spark is gone, so is she.

Does anyone understand what this song is about?? I'm confused about what he is trying to say

I think its just about how you shoudnt do what is considered normal. "now we are allowed to think", "dont you think its time to trespass". and then it says "thank god for freedom, thank god for liberation" thats what i think this song is about. just how everyone should think for themsleves and not be a slave to society.

good point, kid. . .but the song is also about morality, about how any more the concept of love for another person is nothing but "how can i get them to bed." In this culture, the original idea of love being caring so much for someone else that you'd give up your life for them is terrifying because it's atypical. Christian, the singer, is trying to make a point with the line "Is the one thing you want to make your trademark To feel lust without cute boring love"--he's hinting at the fact that there can be something deeper than just skin. I love the chorus in this song, because he's saying that he's sick of the charades and asking if anyone else is like him
