What is that vitalizing sound?
Calling me
In my head
Repeatedly

What is that visionary sight?
Before my eyes
So prominent
So mesmerizing, turbulent

You've got a hold on me
Your ingenuity
Seems to be driving me down on my knees

The force you generate
You reinvigorate
Your body talks and overstates

Well, I'm already drawn
Close to the divine
Intoxicating images are rushing through my mind

Embodiment of sin
Has kindled me within
Sensations seems to multiply, they're building up inside

Cutting through the night
Radiating light
I've seen you move the crowd
I know what you're about

The stories I have heard
The talk about excess
I know what people say
But surely you impress

Charismatic pill
You elevated sun
Vanity and pride
Added into one

A universal force
An autonomic high
A thing I can't control
No matter how I try

What have you done to me?
This candid chemistry
Emotions running over me

And when you arch your back
Just with a stare like that
Well, it's natural to interact

I'm not holding back
Ready to commence
Caught up in your blizzard so confusing and intense

Synergy of two
Energy gone wild
See the stars align to spell your name out in the sky

Never seen a sight
So fascinating right
A symmetry between
Dirty and pristine

Calling out so loud
Beautiful and true
Mystery about
Everything you do

Charismatic drug
You elevated sun
Vanity and pride
Added into one

A universal force
An autonomic high
A thing I can't control
No matter how I try

This electricity
Injected into me
Emotions running over me

And when you're getting close
You touch my innermost
A feeling deep inside me knows

Wonders of delight
Cutting through the night
Know you've got it all
I can't do without

Burning in my veins
Ripping through my soul
I'll never be the same
A secret can't be told

Charismatic pill
You elevated sun
Vanity and pride
Added into one

A universal force
An autonomic high
A thing I can't control
No matter how I try

For me this song was all about that kind of person that just instantly strikes a chord in you, motivates you, catches your thoughts...he's definitely thinking sexually...and seems to be having trouble merging those feelings with how fantastic she's making him feel - that "symmetry between dirty and pristine". He doesnt believe any of the stories he's heard because he knows they have a connection of some sort and she's inherently his match.

I didn't even read the stripper/porn influence until now, and can kinda see that...but she seems more like one of those "life of the party" people...someone everyone is drawn to and mesmerized by.

Either way - it's a badass song. Reminds me somewhat of the Pet Shop Boys in it's repetition.

I think this is about drugs and the obsession/addiction for them/it. There are to many references to drugly things (for example:Charismatic pill, An automatic high, Charismatic drug,Injected into me,Burning in my veins). The part:

Cutting through the night Radiating light I've seen you move the crowd I know what you're about The stories I have heard The talk about excess I know what people say But surely you impress

talks about the rave scene (maybe) where drugs like ecstacy and various others are prevelant. I really feel this is about drugs/raving, but the lady thing matches, i guess. But my opinion is drugs/party rave

I always thought it was "sensations seem to multiply" not multiplay -? I think it would make much more sense like that.

great song.. for me it's about this guy who's in love with some famous girl (i'm guessing pornostar) and she has these affects on him and they have an affair for some time and she asks him not to tell about it.

At first i thought the song was about ecstasy, but whootwhoot raised a valid point. I'm still on the Ecstasy track, perhaps because it's one of the greatest songs to get high to :)

I thought "elevated sun" was "elevated sum", but that might just be my geekiness playing tricks on my ears

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
