Yeah, I'm running off the rails
I've finally gone crazy
And the ground is spinning faster than my teeth could ever grind
I know it's a shame when success (does) complain,
But I can't remember my name

In the absolute wrong I have made this place to lay my head
A reoccurring nightmare
I never trust, I never rest

I've become another victim of this self-serving device
My cock does all the talking
My mouth now just for lie

I'm winding down to nothing
It's suddenly come clear
I'm winding down to nothing
A human smoke that fills the air

What can you believe?
That is the question
I have you on a string
Something yet up my sleeve

Bury me deep, as we have our unborn child
In this world, yet cold enough to host this seed of endless ugliness

In a sea of corruption,
A wake of lie, so wildly I have stirred

I'm winding down to nothing
It's suddenly come clear
I'm winding down to nothing
A human smoke that fills the air

What can you believe?
That is the question
I have you on a string
Something yet up my sleeve

(My love is but a lie, always reaping what I've sown)
(Taking you down to degrees you'll never known)

The song is about how the music business, Hollywood, or just fame in general can bring you down as fast as it got you up. It's about how fame can dwindle down your dignity and your decency without any hesitation. It's a very intense and fast song, with brutal riffs and an amazing solo.

Stanza #1: "Yeah I'm running of the rails, I've finally gone crazy And the ground is spinning faster than my teeth could ever grind." It's talking about how the pressure of fame has finally driven the narrator mad to the point of not being able to control his life. Stanza #2: "I know it's a shame when success was to blame, but I can't remember my name" The narrator has clarified that it was indeed fame that has driven him crazy to the point where he can't remember his name. Stanza #3: "In the absolute wrong, I have made this place to lay my head. A reocurring nightmare, I never trust I never rest." There's a sense of distrust the narrator feels, it's all a "reocurring nightmare" to him, the pressure and the paranoia never ceases to drive him mad. Stanza #4: "I've become another victim of this self-serving device. My cock does all the talking, my mouth now just for lie." This mentions how some amateur stars or artists have to resort to defiling themselves, i.e. sleeping with or involving in some sexual manner with the person in charge, the person who can get them to where they want to head, in this case, fame. Stanza #5: "I'm winding down to nothing, it suddenly comes clear. I'm winding down to nothing, human smoke that fills the air." This suggests that the narrator is dwindling down to a sub-human, someone who's not even decent enough to be considered human. The last line suggests that he (the narrator) is all nothing but lies and obscurities. Stanza #6: "What can you believe? That is the question. I have you on a string, something yet up my sleeve." That means to say that he's at the point of his career where he's all just full of shit right now. "I have you on a string, something yet up my sleeve" implies that he can make anyone easily believe anything he says to be the truth. Stanza #7: "Bury me deep, as we have an unborn child. In this world yet cold enough to host this seed of endless ugliness." He's just saying so much in this stanza. The top line implies that there are generations more to come of this depravity of humanity just for the success we as humans all crave. In the bottom line, he's saying that the rest of society do not care for what entertainers have to do to gain fame, as long as society has some source of entertainment. Stanza #8: "In a sea of corruption, a wake of lie so wildly I have stirred." It's just implying once again the corruption of the entertainment business, viewing entertainment corporations as parasites who defile entertainers for their own sake. Overall rating: 10/10

    I also forgot to add:

Stanza #9: "My love is but a lie, always reaping what I have sown Taking you down with me, to what degrees you'll never know." The final stanza is now saying that the final result is what he deserves, he's finally "reaping what I have sown". The person he refers to take down with him are the future victims of the entertainment industry, and the last line would mean that the victim won't ever know what hit him/her.

Majorly awesome song. Love the chorus and the end. Good job as always Black Dahlia.

As for the meaning, seems to be commentary on Hollywood, the music business, or fame in general.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
