They're shutting off the phone
Cutting off the gas
I can't afford to heat
The water in my bath
I'm barely getting by
I'm hanging by a string
It's a money thing

I could sell my body
I could sell my sperm
I could sell my blood
With the money that I earn
I could buy my baby
a little plastic ring
It's a money thing

And I got none
It's a money thing
I gotta make some
Money

I stare into the windows
Of couple filled cafes
The men all act like winners because they all can pay
How can I compete with what the y're offering
It's a money thing

And I got none
It's a money thing
And I got none
It's a money thing
I gotta get some
Money

I got a cheap date but she wasn't so cheap
I got a cheap date but she wasn't so cheap
I got a cheap date but she wasn't so cheap

Shit
It's so disheartening
The cash is always king
Happiness and love just don't mean anything
I'll never have enough
I'll never have enough
It's a money thing
And I got none
It's a money thing
And I got none
It's a money thing
I gotta make some
Money
I got a cheap date but she wasn't so cheap
It's a money thing
I got a cheap date but she wasn't so cheap
It's a money thing
I got a cheap date but she wasn't so cheap
Money

"It's tough to feel desirable when you're subsisting on plain spaghetti and cold coffee, and the contents of those envelopes from the utility companies are no longer bills, but cancellation notices. Whoever said love don't cost a thing was lying."

    My Interpretation

The narrator doesn't pay his taxes, so they shut the electricity and water down. However, he wants to offer his next girlfriend a ring. He looks jealous by seeing couples across a restaurant window. He doesn't have enough money ("I'll never have enough") to pay a prostitute ("Found a cheap date but she wasn't so cheap, shit"). In the end, the narrator understands that money is much more important than happiness and love.

This song caused controversy because Adam dared using the word "sperm" in one verse.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
