Leap Your Bar Lyrics

Hannah go leap your bar
This is how right you are
I'm in a way it seems
People are cold and mean
In the valleys noon
The things that I can find
Nothing's simple soon
The stitches I can time
I was so bad
Endless the weeds you blink
Nothing's for sure to sink
I closed an open door
What is the world good for
The beloved cars that went to where they went
Did they actually go were they really sent
Life is so sad
Hannah go fill your jar
This isn't right
You are
When does the whole of to be become infinity
Headed for the moon
The mission I can buy
Forever in a line
The friends who walk right by and never see you
I never see you

i think "Leap Your Bar" is about how people get in your way and are cruel to you and really don't seem to care for you. but who's Hannah?. anyway "Leap Your Bar" touches many meanings in my eyes.

no idea who hannah is and i dont think john does either must have been something that came to him one day. i like the idea of the cruelty of people and that stuff but i think there might be more to it maybe the world has been cruel or a country

I agree with what you said about how it is about people being cruel to you, but i think the message is that you have to overcome it. In this song it seems like John is playing a pessimist but he realizes it and he is jsut telling us that we all have potential and should not be bogged down by the opinions of the world like he is.

This song touches on a lot of different subjects. Initially john is talking about being in a low point in his life. In the "In the valleys noon /The things that I can find" line the "valleys noon" is refering to the highpoint of johns low drug addiction period, and the "things" he found were probably things about his existance (spirits ect.). "Nothing's simple soon / The stitches I can time" John is realizing life isnt easy no matter what at this low point, and the "stitches he can time" refer to the damage he still chooses to do to him himself at this point. The "I was so bad" is pretty obvious, during this low he was a bad person to himself. He continues making revelations about life in "Endless the weeds you blink / Nothing's for sure to sink" He is saying that everything is only as bad as you see it in life, and no one is doomed to failure, no matter how low they get.

Another subject is questioning the free will of man, or ever himself. This can be seen in the "The beloved cars that went to where they went /Did they actually go were they really sent" line. John is asking sort of saying "the decions people make / Did they do so by free will or was it destiny"

Also in, "When does the whole of to be become infinity / Headed for the moon /The mission I can buy" In these three lines he is saying "When will all of things we want or think will happen become endless" It almost a message telling you to let go of those things. The "headed for ../mission i..." line refers to john saying he is "Going toward the unknown in life / And he is doing it by choice [ie: buying the mission]"

Long analysis i know, but i like this song a lot. I'm still not sure about a lot of it. But thats my best guess. This song is about John's beliefs about life.

Just so i can complete my thought I have to say this:

This song is john saying "I was a bad person, this is why, but we as humans have free will to change."

I know I'm most likely wrong on this, because there are no supporting facts. But I've always wondered if Hannah could possibly be an illegitimate daughter John had back in the day that he might not have been around for. Most of the lyrics would fit that scenario. But as far as I know, he doesn't have any kids.

@FiniteSD Hello, idk if anyone uses this site anymore/you'll see this (18 years ago, holy moly) but John and his music mean so much to me. Reading your comment kind of blew me away ngl. I was doing my classic run-through every year or so of Curtains and this song just hit me like crazy in the car and actually started balling (I have an Ex Hannah as well that I still have feelings for sadly, and Im admittedly not in the best spot in my life rn) I was trying to decipher the lyrics listening it over...

Dunno, but the line "The beloved cars, they went to where they went" is the dumbest lyric ever.

how dare you

I disagree. I think we are the beloved cars; we go where we go in life, but do we actually go or are we sent by some outside force? Perhaps John used cars as an example as they can move, but they must be driven. He's contemplating whether our fate controls us or we control our fate. That's a concept expressed numerous times in this album, and this climactic song really drives it home.
