I tell you I didn't do it, 'cause I wasn't there,
Don't blame me, it just isn't fair.
You listen to their side, now listen to mine,
Can't think of a story, sure you'll find me sometime.
Now pass the blame and don't blame me,
Just close your eyes and count to three. (One, two, three.)
Then I'll be gone and you'll forget,
The broken window, TV set.
It wasn't me either, I'm just his mate,
He told me to stand here and watch the gate.
I've got a wife and three kids you know,
They'll tell you I'm straight, at least I think so.
I'm as honest as the day is long,
The longer the daylight, the less I do wrong.
Now pass the blame and don't blame me,
Just close your eyes and count to three. (One, two, three.)
Then I'll be gone and you'll forget,
The broken window, TV set.
Pass the blame and don't blame me,
Just close your eyes and count to three. (One, two, three.)
Then I'll be gone and I'll forget,
What you give is what you get.
Pass the blame and don't blame me,
Just close your eyes and count to three...
Don't blame me, it just isn't fair.
You listen to their side, now listen to mine,
Can't think of a story, sure you'll find me sometime.
Just close your eyes and count to three. (One, two, three.)

In the video Suggs is the thief. The others are once or twice dressed as thieves but most often they are the bobbies. I suppose Kix is the one who wanted to levitate again after Baggie Trousers. That song's funny but you gotta see them fooling around, they were good at it.
I was always told that this was about a bungled robbery which took place in the early days of Madness. Dont know if it involved any of the band members, people they knew or just an incident at the time. But i do know that the name'shut up' came form the original chorus which was scrapped because the song was too long.

Me again. A silly thing to do: posting until the songs I like reach 7. Madness' page ain't the most popular and that breaks my heart. Almost.
What really puts me down is to see the band members getting older and fatter. It seemed that Suggs hadn't changed much until recently. Strangely I find Woody looks better than ever at 48! And my sweet Bedders.... shaved head... Whenever he wears a hat you'd say he's 35.
One more pointless comment and I'm done.
When Madness was at its peak I was a toddler. The only sensible thing left for me to do is to Shut the fuck Up.
Was yer daddy a bank robber?
