Well, there's a man I know
At least I used to years ago
I didn't really mind
He used to come round all the time

Of course he had to be fed
I had to give him a bed
He used to kip on my sofa
They used to call him a loafer

I've heard he's changed a lot since then
But some of his ways he just can't mend

Till the other day
When he'd offer to pay
He didn't like his bed
He earned all he'd ever had

He didn't have no shame
He was a master at his game
He never showed his hand
He was the bed and breakfast man

Oh, he was, he was the bed and breakfast man
He was, he was the bed and breakfast man
He was, he was the bed and breakfast man
He was, he was the bed and breakfast man
He was, he was the bed and breakfast man
He was, he was the bed and breakfast man
He was, he was the bed and breakfast man

This song is amazing! It is amazing that it wasn't released as a single. It's really catchy as well. Madness are one of the best bands ever.

Five stars from me too. In fact, to me this is the quintessential Madness track, in spite of not being a single.

    Effective simplicity, Madness's trademark

In the Bed and Breakfast Man Clip Bedders wears clothes I can easily see on a young Brian Setzer. The Fifties and its John Wayne Stuff were back.....

In the My Girl clip intro my dear Bedford has a giant cowboy hat on his head. That hat was also part of the clip for Shut Up, in the middle bit where you can hear Western-movies guitar and gunshots.

In those years Bedford had "Walk Don't Run" by the Ventures amongst his ten favourite songs.

The Shadows had a better John Wayne-ish tune called "Apache".

What link between Madness and The Shadows? ....well...... They all liked to wear ties and suits.

Back to the bed and breakfast: You don't see that often in a girl but I want to say: I'm a loafer. A shameless one and all.

I had too much to drink last night.

There are no cowboy hats in Shut Up. I'm trying to figure out where that idea came from.

No I haven't tried at all. I was watching in loop those 9 seconds in the clip where Bedders' playing and chewing happily. I would transform into a Fender if that was the only way for him to put his hands on me...

    Exit the maddening groupie.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
