Hey you
Don't watch that, Watch this!
This is the heavy heavy monster sound
the nuttiest sound around
so if you've come in off the street
and you're begining to feel the heat
Well listen buster
you better start to move your feet
The the rockinest rock steady beat of madness
ONE STEP BEYOND!
.......
ONE STEP BEYOND!

I was just listening to some old school reggae the other day and noticed something I hadn't heard before (or ever heard anyone reference):

"Hey you, don't watch that Watch this!"

This is a reference to The Ethiopians' "Reggae Hit the Town," which contains the lyric, "Don't watch that one/ watch this one"

"This is the heavy heavy monster sound"

This is a reference to Dave & Ansel Collins' "Monkey Spanner," which contains the lyric, "This is a heavy heavy monster sound"

I would guess there are probably other references here, with these two being so obvious when you hear them. If anyone recognizes any, let me know!

Fuck off rainbow girl. This is one of the most uplifting tunes ever written. It's a saxophone, clearly and it's one hell of alot better than any of the crapola you listen to. Adverts indeed, is that the best you can come up with? This tune opens Madstock for christs sake and there's not many tunes can live up to that.

Gah I never understand why people comment a band they have looked up just to bitch about them! This is the ultimate workout song! The constant beat in the backgound of I'm not quite sure what is the perfect thing to constantly stamp your feet to! Believe me, I've tried it and man, does it tire you out...

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
