Used to worry for each other
No one's bothered like before
We sleep with each others friends
Sneak around, fall apart

And come back for more
We sit around drinking tables
Stabilized and keeping score
But my mind is somewhere out the door

Oh, we have grown
Maybe I've overstayed awhile
In my time in exile and
Oh time has flown and the
Only thing I've learned
I want a life now of my own

We go to clubs, the songs are old
The evening's blown
Go our ways and take taxis home
Talk of Sunday outings
And medicate to fight the doubting
But know we'll always be alone

Oh, we have grown
Maybe I've overstayed awhile
In my time in exile and
Oh time has flown
And the only thing I've learned
I want a life now of my own

That's my year spent in exile
Second guessed and dressed up in tatters
My both feet didn't take this path
And I'm still looking for a life that matters

More than chit chat
We listen to The Streets
We're all deadbeats and these old habits
Are starting to show through
Sorry I didn't get to know you

Oh, we have grown
Maybe I've overstayed awhile
In my time in exile and
Oh time has flown
And the only thing I've learned
I want a life now of my own

Bye, bye
To the friends I've known
In my time in exile

This is really a great song...I think this song is about someone who used to live in the past but now is deciding to move on.

I agree with tigerlily. Also, at least to me, it seems like sometime she said that she didn’t want to be with him (thus his “time in exile”). Now they’re kind of on and off, but not together. He wonders if maybe she wanted him later, but he kept away although he wanted it too because he thought that was what she wanted. He’s stayed around, but now realizes that time is flying by, the past must stay in the past, and he has to move on, to get a life of his own.

i also agree with Tigerlily and Soultears, i feel this song is about him being with this girl but he knows he's worn out the welcome and feels he has to move on. another sad song to the list of my favorites...

i think this song is about a relationship that was just destructive and one that he did not feel like himself in. where he says "sorry I didn't get to know you" it's like even though they spent a year together he didn't act like he usually does.

he left his old friends and life and was in "exile" during the relationship. at first it was a high for him but it's old now.

he has become accustom to this life, of "sitting around drinking tables". Now he is realizing he's been there too long, exile. Time has flown, and he knows its time, time to start his life. He might have a girl or just friends that are not elevating him.

And it hits him, just like it hits us. We need to change. Looking for a life that is more than chit chat.

he' stuck in a life with little to move on to and is the same blandness everyday. he realized that he needs to change or move on to better himself. "i'm sorry i didn't get to know you" represents a girl that was there the whole time and regrets not looking into her. she could of been the small ignificant essence that would of changed his out look and life there. but he overlooked her now regrets. life could of been completely differnt if she was in his life. if only he took the them to see this when he had the chance...

    peace

Exile is a forced time spent away from home so to me it could mean he was married and now divorced and trying to relive his bachelor days and has relised he liked having a "home"....also could mean alot more..

    First a few understandings:

    1. Exile is an ironic play on words. In his meaningless sociality he is exiled from himself.
    2. The "we" could be anyone but in this song it is a actual group of friends.
    3. He loves his friends and the moments but he recognizes their futility.

"We have grown, time has flown, and the only thing I've learned, I want a life now of my own (something meaningful and real)."

"We sit around drinking tables, stabilized and keeping score, but my mind is somewhere out the door (there must be something more)."

"That's my year spent in exile, second guessed (by himself) and dresed up in tatters, my birth feet didn't take this path (this is not his destiny) and I'm still looking for a life that matters (more than chit chat.)"

"I've overstayed (time to go home) awhile..."

This song is about a relationship gone sour. The two of them have been together for awhile but now it's getting boring for the both of them. Although they're still "together" they sleep around and don't even worry about cheating with each other anymore because the love is gone. He's getting sick of this relationship and wants to just leave permanently but yet something is holding him back from leaving even though he feels miserable about the whole relationship.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
