Wish I was a better man
Wish I had a better plan for dealing with this
What am I
What am I to do now?

Maybe I should run away
Maybe I could run away and never be found
What am I
What am I to do now?

The way that I'm feeling
The dreams that I'm dreaming
Can this really be happening?
Can it really be true?

You are
My love of my life
My heart of my soul
Just trying to keep the world from smashing, crashing in

I had this dream the other night
I had this crazy dream the other night
How have I
How have I arrived here?

My heart is elated
But my head is exhausted
This is this powerful magic
Can it really be true?

You are
My blood is in your blood
My breath is in your mouth
Just trying to keep the world from smashing, crashing in

What about us?
What about all the plans that we made?
What about all those careful plans?
Just careful plans we made up
And nothing's clear

Full of faith
Full of hope
Full of you

My love of my life
My heart of my soul
Just trying to keep the world from smashing, crashing in

My blood is in your blood
Just trying to keep the world from smashing, crashing in

Love that is too good to be true, and he wants to do everything he can to keep it.

It's so good, he has no idea what to do.

This song, it seems, can be interepreted multiple ways. That is why it is so amazing.

    My Interpretation

I'm gonna go out on a limb and disagree with the other interpretations on here. The song does sound very melancholy, but I think it's more contemplative. I don't think it's a separation of lovers. I think it's an almost obsessive crush being realized by the speaker, and he thinks it's out there and crazy, and he wishes he were a "better man," as in a man who can resist these emotions and never act on them because he feels they are so irrational, and as such maybe should "run away and never be found," just take himself away from the object of his feelings so that they don't get stronger and he doesn't ever say anything to her [or him, that would be an interesting spin on it.]

I can understand the break-up interpretations of it, but I feel like a break-up interpretation is difficult to apply to the lines "My heart is elated / but my head is exhausted / this is powerful magic." That sounds very much like a man feeling an intense, sudden, love/crush/affection for someone. His heart is so happy and elated, but it's driving him crazy, he's going nuts just thinking about it and wondering what the f--- to do, should he ask her out, should he never talk to her... hence, his head is exhausted.

The "plans" section is difficult to figure – but I think it's more of a reflection on how you have all these plans in your life, before he met her he had plans to do stuff not involving her and her likewise, should they abandon those plans and get together?

Overall, the way I hear it is an expression of the duality of an all-consuming crush/love. Yeah, that feeling in your heart is awesome but it sure can make you feel like you're going insane.

I'm very suprised no one has commented on this song yet. This is one of Tiësto's slower songs. It's really mellow. I enjoy listening to all of Tiësto's stuff. The lyrics are very interesting. As for a meaning on this song, I'll get back to it later. Possibly about a separation of 2 loved ones... and the effect it has on the singer.

I think it's the best in the album, along with Just Be and Forever Today.

Definitely about a breakup. He's reflecting on the magic of the relationship and the fact that he can't believe it's over; at heart he still has hope that things will work out and he's doing his best to keep things from falling apart.

WELL. me and my friend, (as bored as we were) listened to this song and tried to find out what he was talking about... she had listened to it before and and told me what she thought she said that it was about to lovers who got into a car accident and he was trying to save her blah blah blah. and i said that maybe he had a dream that she was cheating on him, and when he went to work that day he was thinking about it, and so he went home and caught her with another guy, he started to bash the dude and then took a gun from the draw and was threating the guy. then once he shot the gun she jumped in and got hit. then he tried to save her and give her mouth to mouth blah blah blah and was thinking "what kind of person am i" and all the words he says in the song.. mine makes sense hey?

I think it's about two people who are destined to be together, so destined they feel as one. And yet they are still, for some reason apart. Perhaps: He met her over the internet, they fell in love, he was put on probation by her mother from 1000 miles away and within the probation stipulations he has all contact with his love forbidden and he doesn't know what to do. "Just trying to keep the world from smashing, crashing in." Sounds silly. But it's what's happening to me right now. I really do think so though. The first part I mean.

Two people are in love but for some reason apart. When they feel as one, and yet aren't together, the world really does seem to crumble sometimes. He just wishes he was a better man, and knew what to do. "UR..."

    Oh. Forgot to mention:

He wants to run away because the girl continues to talk to him and he doesn't want to tell her no.

    The End.

The singer just found out his girlfriend is pregnant, and it was definitely unplanned. "I wish I were a better man/wish I had a better plan..." He probably doesn't make much money and has no idea how to support a kid. He's all mixed up because on the one hand he's elated to be a father- he already feels connected "my blood is in your blood," but on the other hand it messes up all the plans he and his girlfriend had. Overall very sad sweet song.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
