Skydive Lyrics
There’s a man on the roof
Ignoring the fireworks
The city walks by unmoved
Their laughter looks like tears
On top of a skyscraper
With a foundation of fears
Hopes deferred and dreams (Proverbs 13:12)
He thinks can’t come true
The city keeps hurting him
He crawls to it for medicine
All the answers are here
He’s asking the wrong questions
On top of a skyscraper
With a foundation of fears
Empty works and dreams
He thinks can’t come true
For what can he do?
What has he to offer to You?
Your Majesty, he’s jumping
He’s jumping
He’s falling…
Into Your arms
Ignoring the fireworks
The city walks by unmoved
Their laughter looks like tears
With a foundation of fears
Hopes deferred and dreams (Proverbs 13:12)
He thinks can’t come true
He crawls to it for medicine
All the answers are here
He’s asking the wrong questions
With a foundation of fears
Empty works and dreams
He thinks can’t come true
For what can he do?
What has he to offer to You?
He’s jumping
Into Your arms

Seems pretty clearly to be about someone wanting to commit suicide. He can't seem to acheive what he hopes for, he keeps getting hurt by people, and can't get answers to his questions. So he's jumping off a skyscraper to escape it all.
What seems a bit odd to me is that the writer seems to be putting this in a positive light. Its as if the writer is pleading to God to "catch" this jumping person because he's doing it for good reasons, if that makes sense - he's doing it because he feels he "doesnt have anything to offer you", and because his good hopes and dreams are being "deferred". It doesnt seem like a sad song, given the topic. Anyway, that's just the impression I get.
Well, OnDistantShores, I believe you are correct in it's about suicide.
But maybe not the way you think. Have you ever been in love with God, but put your trust in friends or your abilities? God has a funny way of telling us that our trust should be in Him. Most of the time, thigns will go wrong in those relationships, or things we put our trust in fail. We end up in a "broken" state, where we feel like we have nothing to offer, and we really don't understand why everything went wrong or why it continues to go wrong. Then God comes and tells us to follow Him, and we have a choice to make: Commit "suicide" to ourselves and our other ways we have been trusting outside of God and fall into His arms (because we are tired of fighting and being hurt), or continuing fighting and being hurt until we get to that point again and are forced to decide again. It's a positive song, because it's a great feeling to release your pain, anger, bitterness, wounds, etc. and just fall into God's arms. Just make that choice to fall into Him, and let Him be your safety, the one in whom you trust.
Nothing revolutionary to state, but it seems the guy has been trying to live on his own, by his own strength. He has been going through life, trying to do things his own way, and nothing is working. Or everything seems to be great on the outside, but he is empty. Anyhow, the guy is at the end of his rope. Which is where the falling into God's arms comes in. The man can no longer go on by his own strength, trying to live his own way. It is in this broken state that God can start to mold and use this man.
