Singing with the windows down
I'm driving down the street
And I hope that I'm the only one
Who doesn't have a/c
'Cause my voice is often cracking
And even sometimes laughing
As I lift my voice to Jesus
And fight the Friday traffic
I sing, "amazing love,
How can it be?"
My voice flows out the window
Into the summer heat
Like the heat my voice is rising
Breaking through the pink horizon
Winking at the sun and flying home
And I don't mind the weather
'Cause my seats aren't made of leather
If my car would keep on going
I could sing this song forever
Lord, lead this vehicle
Lord, lead this vehicle
I can't drive forever
The song is almost over
The sun is setting
The needle approaches empty
Despite the heat
My feel are getting cold
From where they've been
And where they'll go
They'll go
Something tells me
That they should be poised
And ready to
Kick the window
I heard you
And I found myself
In a field one day
I'll stop the car
In rainwater
I'll go by foot from here

To me, Most people have some sort of car they drive in and praise God while they're doing it. If you're in school, it's college life. If you're working, it's your job. If you're in a band, it's that. To me this song is about following God and knowing that I should always take his lead whether or not the job works out, the homework gets done, or the crowd approves. Being ready to kick the window, walk through over the dashboard and get on after the failure. The imagery with the feet getting cold is awesome and is a humble picture of how unsettling the uncertainties of life can be.

I absolutely love this song. To me, it's one of those that reminds you of when you first heard it. Everything is so symbolic. The car is like our journey through life. It's best interpreted through your own meaning. That way it hits home and sings directly to you.

im thinking 10 or 40 might mean how much gas he buys $10 or $40 i dont know if thats how much it use to cost back when this was written but its kinda like do u wanna go a corder of the way or all of the way. how long do you wanna sing to God? all the time or just 1/4 of the time? like do you wanna worship with your whole life or just some of it? some times i just buy gas to drive around and listen to sweet worship music like cool hand luke and sing for hours.... just what i think the title means

When Mark was younger, he and his brother asked a neighbor how fast his go-kart could go, and the kid answered, "It can go 10 or 40." It also refers to the 10-40 window evangelicals talk about.
