memories shattered to the ground
like cheap Christmas ornaments
as she lay there screaming, "What have I done?"
to the one she knew so well

thief of virginity
robber of purity
end of serenity
all for sake of masculinity

a wound so deep no time can reach
or remedy
my Lord, my panacea
set her free

take this anger from my heart
God, forgive me
i know his sins are no greater than mine
but i can’t forget what he did

thief of virginity
robber of purity
end of serenity
all for sake of masculinity

add another heart to your collection
add another scar to her reflection
add another heart to your collection
add another scar to her reflection

her every tear brings judgement down
upon your head to form a crown
you broke much more than human flesh
you pierced the heart of a child of God

...you will repent

I looked these guys up and God, this song is great. I figured I'd stop by and see what the lyrics were, and man... this is practically the perfect way to describe the effects of rape. Not that I'd know what it feels like... but it gives you insight on what it must feel like. Great song.

These guys are so annointed. I was kind of curious what this song was about because I could only pick up bits and pieces... MAN...

it almost hurts to listen to. the imagery he creates when he sings "like cheap christmas ornaments" is well what it is. i duno this song just makes you feel like it's ok to get angry when bad stuff happens and that you shouldn't keep it bottled up inside.

This song is not about rape. the lyrics imply that the girl had an active role in the situation,

as she lay there screaming, "What have I done?"

I believe this song is about her sleeping with a previous boyfriend .....

the one she knew so well....

And now shes married to this guy who hates the old boyfriend for what he did and he knows the girl is sorry and hates it just as much if not more thatn he does. and hes praying for God to show him how to love this man and to heal the girls wounded heart.

    Just my take on it......

Word Alive, The
This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
