The Awakening Lyrics
Fall into the flood of your awakening
Drown. You're a trace of what I used to be
Waging the battle for the appreciation you'll never win
Behold the army that will harken with open souls
A tiny voice of pester softer than a drop of a pin
And so naive thinking you were
The source you told
I was composing the beginning before you had begun
Where did you sharpen such a tongue
For the sound you spill
I want the honor for the favor that I've already won
Without the ignorant deduction
That you reveal
Give me the pain of something real
No empty notion, I want to see the pressure rising
Give in a way that I can feel
When you disagree with me I want to see your eyes burn
Fall into the flood of your awakening
Drown. You're a trace of what I used to be
You wrote the words you couldn't
Stomach manifesting with breath
I read the thoughts you never
Questions would show me your face
If confrontation were to wake and
Rear it's ugly head
I get the feeling you'd be wanting it all erased
This simple gossip is your only definition of life
And what a vacant purpose taking it to your grave
There is no threat of loss in
Hearing the slant you cry
Oh what a fool to think you fell
On the mass you crave
Fall into the flood of your awakening
Drown. You're a trace of what I used to be
Awaken from the delusion of validity
Awaken into the truth of how it used to be
Wake up
Fall into the flood of your awakening
Drown. You're a trace of what I used to be
Awaken
Drown. You're a trace of what I used to be
Behold the army that will harken with open souls
A tiny voice of pester softer than a drop of a pin
And so naive thinking you were

the one line where it says 'when you disagree with me' it should be'when you disgrace me'
I think the beginning of the song is like talking about how God created us and how we are always so rude and get mad at him.... and how we should wake up and realize that he created us and how far away from being like God we are. The song points out that God gave us life (The comment on breath?) and then how we fill our lives with gossip and other junk.... and then we are a trace of what God used to be... because God has a totally different meaning now then it used to... Though i could be wrong, anyone else wanna add to?
Dunno about this... Doesn't make all that much sense to me, but hey. Maybe it'll help. Here's how Ryan put it--- The Awakening is about critics. Someone’s always going to have an opinion about our music and not everyone’s going to like it. As a musician you have to learn to understand that one person doesn’t necessarily speak for everyone else. Most of the time, they’re speaking only for themselves.
Ryan's definition seems completely wrong to me... So confused...
this song sounds like it is talking about how really this world isnt imprtant because everyone eventually dies so everyone should be more concerned about how God will view them rather than living for the world "fall into the flood of your awakening" is talking about realizing that God is what is important and "give me the pain of something real" sound like someone wanting to know something that will always be a reality
"This simple gossip is your definition of life"- talking about how this life is pointless when you think about it because if there is no afterlife everything will always end the same
and finally- "And what a vacant purpose taking it to your grave There is no threat of loss in Hearing the slant you cry Oh what a fool to think you fell On the mass you crave" is singing to someone who does not believe in any kind of after life that without anything that is permanent there is no purpose to waht you do
The song depicts the meaning that we are to forsake our earthly and sinful selves, and go to God. " The Awakening" is the realization that without God we will fail and thus we must go to God. Thus Ryan is speaking about how people are what he used to be, Godless sinners, and how he has turned to God and is saved. Awaken from the delusion of vailidity... awaken from the lies of society's pride (pride meaning to stubbornly refuse help) and awaken into God's truth. Awaken into the truth of how it used to be... awaken to what your forefathers knew, how they loved and trusted God, or, awaken to the child-like faith that you once had with a pure and innocent life (if you were born a christian). I felt compelled to add on here when my minister spoke today and the message reminded me so much about this song.
