Roads Lyrics

Last night
Stopping by
Greeting me with an embracing bad breath
Now it's Five A.M.
you woke me out of a restless R.E.M.
I think it's time
To sober up and die

Now every little second is time
And every word seems to rhyme
I follow every word like streetlights
To make it home all right

Yeah

Now every little second just flies
I hold on to them like paradise
I follow every word like streetlights
I, I want to fall in love and leave tonight

Been riding in the sunset
Ignoring what follows after beauty
Fades to black now
Just riding in the sunset
Now this paralyzing cold
Always comes crawling back
I think it's time
To sober up and live

Now every little second is time
And every word seems to rhyme
I follow every word like streetlights
To make it home all right

Yeah

Now every little second just flies
I hold on to them like paradise
I follow every word like streetlights
I, I want to fall in love and leave tonight

Every little second is time
And every word seems to rhyme
I follow every word like streetlights
To make it home all right

Now every little second just flies
I hold on to them like pieces of paradise
I follow every word like streetlights
I, I want to fall in love and leave tonight

Roads

"Last night Stopping by Greeting me with an embracing bad breath Five A.M. you woke me out of a restless R.E.M. I think it's time To sober up and die" What wakes the narrator so rudely is the world or social pressure. He expresses a feeling discomfort. By, "...to sober up and die," the narrator means to become a christian (sober up) and let the old self die.

"Now every little second is time And every word seems to rhyme I follow every word like streetlights To make it home all right" Now time is valuable, now the word make sense. Allowing the word to be a lamp for the feet, or a light for the street. The world not being home, the narrator heads towards heaven

"Yeah" Yes

"Now every little second just flies I hold on to them like paradise I follow every word like streetlights I, I want to fall in love and leave tonight" Basically the same as the last one, but now the narrator loves Jesus so the narrator can enjoy life on earth "like paradise."

"Been riding in the sunset Ignoring what follows after beauty Fades to black now Just riding in the sunset Now this paralyzing cold Always comes crawling back I think it's time To sober up and live" I think this is ironic that in this stanza he replaces "sober up and die" with "sober up and live" because this stanza represents the narrator dying. The beautiful sunset of earthly life is replaced by the "paralyzing cold" grip of death. The narrator then comes to a true life in heaven.

the rest pretty much just repeats the chorus for the sake of the beautiful melody.
