"Well our visions of our glory have spiraled down the drain" Thoughts of this country being invincible have been proven wrong, and now things have gone to hell "Your bruises are reminders of naivete and trust You're only feeling stronger cause your body's getting numb" I think thats about how the Bush family trusted the bin Ladens and they turned around and attacked the country. Then feeling like the country is rebounding even though things have gotten much worse. "The noose has fallen And all my friends are crawling The noose has fallen And enemies are rising A truth appalling " I'm not sure about the crawling part, I think it has to do with all the other countries maybe trying to crawl away from the mess this country has gotten into, and then the enemies part would be about how this country does nothing more than make more enemies everyday, and frankly the truth sucks. That's my interpritation.

This song can be applied to more than just war, pretty much any situation where you go into it thinking it'll be fine and it'll blow over soon, but it doesn't, and when the niceties and illusions are shattered, it's time to get down and do the dirty work...
dsgrntld187 was asking about the line in the chorus that says "...and all my friends are crawling." I don't know if there is any meaning to extract from that, other than a reference to the previous line. But then again, maybe it does.
When put together, those two lines could be taken to mean that extremely difficult times have befallen us, and we as regular American citizens are trying our best to live our lives the way we intend to, despite all of that. If you want to take it literally, we're just crawling underneath the noose to keep from getting hanged.

I think the song is about shit going down and all your 'friends' ditching you. The first verse is about everything going to hell, the second verse is about a feeling of betrayal, and the chorus is about all your 'friends' abandoning you to those who would kill you.
What if Josie (from my favourite movie "Josie and the Pussycats") wrote this song herself? Then, it would be kickass, won't it? Anyways, This song could be about Revenge. I LIKE REVENGE AS MUCH AS I LIKE THIS SONG!!
