New Years Eve Lyrics

It's New Years Eve and I'm full of empty promises,
I half pretend to keep this time,
just like last year.
The band is loud and I'm wandering the shadows,
wishing I was never here.
I persevere.
A crowded room,
these whitewashed tombs,
they raise their glasses high,
they kiss the past goodbye.

This New Years Eve,
I'm waiting for tomorrow.
My heart is on my sleeve,
and yes I still believe,
this New Years Eve,
will turn out better than before,
I'm holding on, still holding out,
until they close the door... on me.

It's New Years Eve and I feel my insecurities,
are haunting me like ghosts,
this sinking quicksand.
And then with thunderous praise and lofty adoration,
a second passes by,
yet nothing changes.
I my skin,
this grave I'm standing in.
Another change of years,
and I wish I wasn't here.

A year goes by and I'm staring at my watch again,
and I dig deep this time,
for something greater than I've ever been,
life to ancient wineskins.
And I was blind but now I see.

This New Years Eve,
something must change me inside,
I'm crooked and misguided, and tired of being tired.
This New Years Eve,
I'm waiting for tomorrow.
My heart is on my sleeve,
and yes I still believe, in You.

It's the best serious FiF song. Yeah thats right, better than Every New Day... What, you wanna make something of it? lets fight (ownottheface!)

I really like this son, but ShesMyAlcatraz, I'd have to disagree. Distant Shores is the best, serious, FIF song. Heck, they even throw in some Every New Day at the end of it. You can't beat that. =P

On to the song, what this song means to me. To me, Reese is lamenting (the whiner. Haha, just kidding. Reese, if you read this, I have the highest regards for you and your hair) his own humanity, how he is doomed to make mistakes and fall into the same sin over and over again. The years have made him bitter towards himself. (And then with thunderous praise and lofty adoration, a second passes by, yet nothing changes. Possibly the best line of the whole song.)

By the end, he realizes what he must do to change-- Surrender himself fully to the love and grace of Christ, and realizes that through Christ, even for a sinner like himself, there is hope.

This song, I must say, has had some of the most meaning for me, personally...

Guster111 has it right. He wishes he could find something to hang his hat on, but after reflection all he can say is that he still has faith.
