To me, this song is one person to another, telling them how they will always be there for them ("i cannot stay my hand from reaching out so that i can empower you for all eternity") even if they don't ask for it ("although i know ur not begging") and how nothing is so bad that they won't be there for them, because they can put it aside for the other's sake ("i will devour you" (not them but their issue...devour as in destroy, break down) "take all the pain away")...
Really? I've always seen this as a song where the singer (Not david but you get what I'm saying) wants to devour someone's heart and tempt them to crawl in the darkness and run away so that they will easily be haunted and boom-they're gone. i connected with this song alot more than the rest on the album. its jus sayin how he wants to help no matter wot and how he feels that helping is his meaning. i usually only feel of any use when im helping the people i care about. this is the best song on the amazing album
i have to agree with krono since i feel great while helping a person but if i can't i feel so guilty. so this song i find to be the best song on the cd since i can connect with it. god i love this song
i know this is probably..deffinately, not what the song is meant to be...but this is how it is to me. but isnt that what songs are for? to relate to its listeners and be viewed in different ways? the singer, narrator, whoever you want to call them...is someone evil, in a way. but he falls in love with a girl, someone who is in a tough, depressing and mentally saddening relationship. so he decides he wants to have her, he promises to take care of her...but she must be his, and only his, forever. the girl is hoping someone would come and take her from a relationship that is mentally destroying her, and promise to take care of her, and make her feel wanted...lol, i know its an odd interpretation, but i actually had a dream about this. lol insane

I think mjdny has a point. There are lots of "possibly satanic" meanings in the lyrics of this song. Just think about it:
"Give me a reason to make you mine" If you want to sell your soul, you have to want to do it first, right?

For one Disturbed is not satanic so you know. Serously dude Draiman and all the other guys aren't satanic. l know for a fact thaT Draiman is Jewish. I myself am christian but if you don't know draiman you wont understand their music and remember most of their songs are about how screwed up the world is and how stupid people can be in life and stguff like that.

this is also, one of my favorite songs. i love disturbed
to me, and to fit the structure of the album =P, is about Jesus, or God, or whoever =P and how he wants to help people, but the people he wants to help dont really want to accept him, and be helped, etc. dont like this song much, lyrically, but the music's pretty good, imo.
this song means everything to me.... i listen to this song 24/7... i only listen to it because it reminds me of my best friend...hw is 18 but age dont really matter. i agree with villifywhatilove..it is about a guy that falls in love with another girl... my best friend...he dedicated this song to me:).HE IS SOOO SWEET!!!.lol

I agree with villify except i see it as more of a parental figure, an authority. lines like "I will devour you, Take all the pain away" then like the whole bridge make it seem like this authority is keeping them in the dark and never letting anyone or anything hurt them. They blind them and keep them to themselves for their own snactimonious purposes. So no villify thats not odd at all.
