Friends In Low Places Lyrics
Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black tie affair
The last one to know
The last one to show
I was the last one
You thought you'd see there
And I saw the surprise
And the fear in his eyes
When I took his glass of champagne
And I toasted you
Said honey we may be through
But you'll never hear me complain
'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh I've got friends in low places
Well I guess I was wrong
I just don't belong
But then, I've been there before
Everything's all right
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door
Hey I didn't mean
To cause a big scene
Just give me an hour and then
Well I'll be as high
As that ivory tower
That you're livin' in
'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh I've got friends in low places
I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh I've got friends in low places

The song is about trying to justify belligerent indignation. This cat shows up to a wedding dressed up like an extra on Hee-Haw, and then tries to make the bride, groom and guests feel bad about themselves for having made life choices that differed from his own.
With all of that charm, I can't imagine why she didn't choose to marry him instead.
@obnoxion .. "belligerent indignation"? Do you even know what those words mean? I see no one in the song that is enraged and waging war because they were treated unfairly or unjustly...

I do see the opposite though.. He told her she'd "never hear him complain"... Doesn't seem very hostile to me... Get yourself a dictionay, and then read it..

The song feels like a bit of a blue collar anthem. He doesn't need snooty high society, because his and his peers love each other.

And that's fine, and I don't even disagree with the sentiment.

The problem is that he essentially crashes a wedding with the intent to troll his ex girlfriend. Even if invited, he plainly admits to intentionally showing up dressed for haggling at a flea market rather than adhering to the dress code. He then proceeds to disrupt the reception and have a tantrum, rather than handling their breakup like an adult. That's what I...

Even if invited, he plainly admits to intentionally showing up dressed for haggling at a flea market rather than adhering to the dress code. He was clearly belligerent.
this song is about a man, who's former lover is getting married "black tie affair", and he shows up to plainly say, i dont need you anymore because i have friends "in low places" who he will drink away her memory with
As high as that ivory tower that you're living in refers to her being kind of an elitist, thinking she's better than him. And that he'll be as drunk as she thinks she is better than him, putting them on an even level.
His ex is into men with money and high society, he is not in high society, and he doesn't mind or complain about it, if she can't accept him for who he is, then too bad, he won't change to impress her or her rich friends.
this song kicks much more ass with the third verse.nuff said
Does anybody know the live version so it can be posted on here?
Well I guess I was wrong I just don't belong But then, I've been there before Everything's all right I'll just say goodnight And I'll show myself to the door Hey I didn't mean To cause a big scene Just wait til I finish this glass Then sweet little lady I'll get back to the bar And you can kiss my ass!!
here's the third verese that goes in the live version. the live version is no doubt the best version and this is an awsome song.
I think he's sayig I don't need you or your snooty bitch friends, I've got freinds who get drunk and high and that's all I need to get over you.
Great drinking song! Memories of Beach Week '05; awesome.
This is a song anyone can sing along to, we used to sing this on mission trips and it would drive our preacher crazy. And like most of Garth's songs much better live, but phenomenal either way
