I get this feeling that I can't explain
Every time I see your face or hear your name
I just go crazy, thinking, maybe this may be my chance
What would you say to me if I said "Baby, let's lay down and dance"

I got to tell you, girl, you drive me wild
Every time I see you dance and see that smile
My world gets hazy and I'm moving like I'm in a trance
Whoa, I know it's crazy, but baby, let's lay down and dance

When it comes to love my heart is black and it's blue
Swore I was through with romance
But girl you're something and I'm counting on you
You're my brand new second chance

My friends all tell me that I'm not your kind
They say I better pray your love is blind
You got to save me, I'm a victim of your circumstance
Whoa, I know it's crazy, but baby, let's lay down and dance

When it comes to love my heart is black and it's blue
Thought I was through with romance
But girl you're something and I've nothing to lose
You're my brand new second chance

I gots to tell you, girl, you drive me wild
I've never known no one with quite your style
I'm going crazy, thinking, baby, this may be my chance
What would you say to me if I said "Baby, let's lay down and dance"
Girl, I know it's crazy, but baby, let's lay down and dance

General CommentIt's about a guy that loved a girl and his most cherished memory of her is a dance they shared. The girl left him and broke his heart. He says he's hurt, but he's glad he didn't know how it'd end b/c he woulda missed all the good times they shared....basically that loving the girl for however long and then losing her was worth it all...love is everything to me...even when it's over, it's still the best feeling in the world to think back and know that at one point you were all that mattered to someone.

General CommentThis song was played at my uncle's funeral for his daughter.
The line :"But if I'd only known how the king would fall" just breaks my heart!
When I hear this song I am always reminded of him.

General CommentMy junior year the senior class used this song on there senior video. As the pics flashed across the screen of friends of kindergarten that were still friends there senior year, it's like you never will really know what that group went through the past 13 years but i was probably rough, and not to think that even if it was the worst of times that would not have changed anything. Because there life made them who they were today. Life is hard, but the situations that you go through make you, YOU. I know that I would NOT go back and change anything.

Also, the dance.. that is life.
WOuld you want to sit back at the dance watch all your friends dance with girls or guys? No you would want to dance with the "love of you life" what if you just sat back and watched everyone else dance with that one person you could have maybe possibly had that chance with...

Life is sometimes a "chance" don't just sit back and watch it happen.. take that chance. You just may end up with that pretty girl... I think you get the picture.

General CommentTo me this song is about the loved one dying. How the pain of the loss is huge but he wouldnt trade the pain for not having been in the relationship. This song makes me tear up a little when I hear it.

General CommentI had a close friend pass away about a year and a half ago. He had muscular dystrophy and was only 20. His brother, Stephen, and I are really close friends to this day... but I remember every detail of the Sunday our minister announced in church that Ryan had died that morning. My mother said you could hear a collective gasp from the balcony where all of the youth sit. Stephen and I were 15. The three of us had been hanging out at a benefit for M.D. the day before and Ryan had been fine.

One of Ryan's teachers sang this song at the funeral and I haven't been able to listen to it without crying since up until about a week ago. I was in the car with Stephen and it came on and we just sat there and listened to it.

My interpretation is just that. Someone died unexpectedly at a very young age... I miss Ryan everyday, but now I realize that I'm glad I didn't know we would lose him... because I would have missed out on so many memories.

General CommentSorry those of you who think Garth literally means a dance.....The dance is a medaphore for all the great times and feelings he had with this woman. I can relate and know exactly what he is talking about.
If you knew how hart-broken you would be when the one you love with all of your heart leaves you, wouldn't you consider not getting involved in the first place? I know I would.....BUT, this song is about the blessing of not knowing the future.....We'd all miss out on so much of life, especially love, if we knew "how it all would go, the way it all would end".
The Dance.....man what a song. This was ironically my ex-wife and my song....it was the last song at our prom and the last song at out wedding....and I am glad I didnt know how it would end, because I would have missed out on our dance.

General Commenti have grown up listening to garths music and am such a hige fan...the dance is one of the songs which really has affected my life...i try to live the way the song describes...anybody who has really listened to this song can try and explain what it exactly means as i also could....however nobody can explain it better than the actual lyrics do...this is one of those songs where u need to listen to it and figure out ur own meaning of it....there arent many songs which have that quality so make the most of it...
