D' Evils Lyrics

This shit is wicked on these mean streets
None of my friends speak
We're all trying to win, but then again
Maybe it's for the best though, 'cause when they're seeing too much
You know they're trying to get you touched
Whoever said illegal was the easy way out couldn't understand the
mechanics
And the workings of the underworld, granted
Nine to five is how to survive, I ain't trying to survive
I'm trying to live it to the limit and love it a lot
Life ills, poison my body
I used to say 'fuck mic skills,' and never prayed to God, I prayed to
Gotti
That's right it's wicked, that's life I live it
Ain't asking for forgiveness for my sins, endz
I break bread with the late heads, picking their brains for angles on
all the evils that the game'll do
It gets dangerous, money and power is changing us
And now we're lethal, infected with D'Evils...

We used to fight for building blocks
Now we fight for blocks with buildings that make a killing
The closest of friends when we first started
But grew apart as the money grew, and soon grew black-hearted
Thinking back when we first learned to use rubbers
He never learned so in turn I'm kidnapping his baby's mother
My hand around her collar, feeding her cheese
She said the taste of dollars was shitty so I fed her fifties
About his whereabouts I wasn't convinced
So I kept feeding her money 'til her shit started to make sense
Who could ever forsee, we used to stay up all night at slumber parties
now I'm trying to rock this bitch to sleep
All the years we were real close
Now I see his fears through her tears, know she's wishing we were still
close
Don't cry, it is the (beat?)
In time, I'll take away your miseries and make 'em mine, D'Evils...

My flesh, no nigga could test
My soul is possessed by D'Evils in the form of diamonds and lexuses
The exorcist, got me doing skits like Homie
You don't know me, but the whole world owe me
Strip!
Was thought to be a pleasant guy all my fucking life
So now I'm down for whatever, ain't nothing nice
Throughout my junior high years it was all friendly
But now this higher learning got the Remy in me
Liquors invaded my kidneys
Got me ready to lick off, mama forgive me
I can't be held accountable, D'Evils beating me down, boo
Got me running with guys, making G's, telling lies that sound true
Come test me, I never cower
For the love of money, son, I'm giving lead showers
Stop screaming, you know the demon said it's best to die
And even if Jehovah witness, bet he'll never testify, D'Evils...

Shep,

  1. I think he's talking about people that have passed, that's why he's picking their brains on the dangers of the game.

  2. "Rock To Sleep" is to kill someone

  3. "Lick off" is to shoot a gun

With a bit of research this song completely comes together. It all has to do with Jay-Z involvement in a secret society called the illuminati. You can check it out at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX-xVN0xERk&feature=rec-fresh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNBnKjfqG-M

The world is being deceived by this elite group called the illuminati, Jay-Z is in on this deception! I know ninty nine percent of pples will be so cynical of this message but give it a chance with an open mind and you will be well on your way to understanding the real world we live in, manipulated by Satan. If you are interested in having your mind opened and have any questions/want to learn more send me a message at caleb_cossette@hotmail.com

I wouldn't call youtube "research"

I've been researching the Illuminati for several years now, so I'd like to consider myself an expert on such matters.

Not half as many celebrities are involved in the Illuminati as people think, though clearly their music videos exhibit common Illuminati symbols. First you need to realize how the music industry works. The Music Industry is comprised of multiple companies, be it record companies or video producers. Musicians and Artists sign contracts with these companies; the clauses involved in these contracts vary from artist to artist depending on how willing they are to be taken advantage of. Musicians will often...

This song has nothing to do with The Illuminati, being a free mason, worshipping the devil, or any of the other foul things you people try to accuse Jay-z of being.

First off the song is entitled D'Evils. The apostrophe makes it clear that it's not pronounced The Devil but "The Evils". The evils of greed and corruption!!! Like the commenter said abvove me he uses "The Illuminati" as a metaphor. You have to dig deeper into his lyrics to find what he's really talking about. Basically the song is talking about how he would get his money any means possible. He's trying to live life lavishly not just on a paycheck. As the "Illuminati" so calls takes over your mind or body he uses that as a metaphor for saying that GREED takes over his mind and body.

Lastly, Jay-z is not a devil worshipper or apart of the Illuminati, or a free mason. He has said many times that he believes there is a God, but doesn't believe in religion.

In a track entitled "Free Mason" with Rick Ross Jay-z finally sets the record straight... He says: "I said I was amazin not a mason." "This is God engineering, this is a Hail Mary pass y'all interfering!" "If ya'll niggas fear me, then just say y'all fear me, fuck all these fairytales"

Wow... Favorite lines: I break bread with the late heads, picking their brains for angles on all the evils that the game'll do

About his whereabouts I wasn't convinced So I kept feeding her money 'til her shit started to make sense

Stop screaming, you know the demon said it's best to die And even if Jehovah witness, bet he'll never testify

This is full of quotables besides the ones I mentioned. I agree this is arguably his best...spoken like a true criminal, even though its obvious he's never killed anybody, its as convincing as anything Henry Hill wrote in Goodfellas, with as much wit and underrated talent.

Money and power does change people...whether it brings out the best or worst in them is their decision alone, though it probably brings out both evenly.

This is from when Jay desperately needed a way out of hustling and proved himself as a self-taught English Major...not until the Black Album came out did it bring out the best in him again.

"D'Evils" is coming from someone who knows the life-changing power of money first-hand, making it that much more authentic.

Just not too sure if:

  1. "late heads" means OGs or what
  2. "rock to sleep" means fuck or fight
  3. "lick off" means shoot guns or die

The line at the end of verse to is "don't cry it is TO BE..."

This is in my top 5 hov songs. I just have to reiterate about the word play and metaphors. GENIUS to say the least. the snoop sample in the chorus along with who I think is nas (which is left outin the lyrics) really sets the tone for the song.

Snoop-"Dear God, I wonder can you save me?" Nas-"Illuminati wants my mind, soul, and my body" Snoop-"dear god I wonder can u save me?" Nas-"secret society tryna keep they eye on me" Snoop-"Dear God, I wonder can u save me?" Nas-"Illuminati wants my mind, soul, and my body" Snoop-"Dear God, I wonder can u save me? I can't die....."

The beat sucks u in, I find myself vizualizing everytime I hear this song. Tho I do think late head means O.G.s. Who says u have to be dead to learn the dangers of the game? Smart ppl learn from being observant, plus, not everything that is dangerous will kill u.

I feel the song is about the side effects of the money making in the drug trade. U get into the game to make money, but since its illegal u find out that money isn't the only side. There is a dark side. The dark side is D'Evils. These are all the things that need to be done to keep the money flowing Since they are all "tryna win". ie eliminating the competition by kidnapping the competitions baby mama to get to him. This song is deep. Its one story. The flow of the story is very good once u understand it. He uses unusual phrases instead of common phrases. It makes the story a bot difficult to follow. At times it seems a bit vague, especially cuz he swithces back and forth from these complex, unusual phrases to everyday lingo. I could break this song down line for line and eliminate all of the metaphors and complex phrases. It will turn into an easily understadable story, but where's the fun in that.

In the first verse:

"None of my friends speak We're all trying to win, but then again Maybe it's for the best though, 'cause when they're seeing too much You know they're trying to get you touched"

I think it ought to be "sayin" not "seeing". It follows from "None of my friends speak". He's talking about people trying to get him to incriminate himself by talking too much.

The Illuminati here is just a metaphor for corrupt power here. Like the corrupt power of a drug dealer. It'd be cool if he was in an evil secret society though. All going to the past in a time machine built by Rick Rubin and faking the moon landing. You crazy for this one, Rick!

As far as the "kidnapping his baby's mother" thing, I don't think he means literally kidnapping her. Otherwise why would he give her money? He was just trying to buy her off to get to the other guy, but then he fucked up and caught feelings for her.
