Whispering Wind

I think this song is about unrequited love and hollow words. "Whispering Wind" being everything that was said that wasn't fulfilled. I detect an under current of addiction too. It's in the line:

"I watched your dreams as they slipped away."

Maybe I'm being to critical but I'm pretty sure. It just makes sense with the tragic undertones in this song. Obvious feelings of being crushed and/or let down. Perhaps by someone they really felt passionate feelings for.

Beautiful song and lyrics. One of my favorites from Moby.

This text is very deep, but genius! this is my interpretasion:

The first vers is a reflecting conversation between a person with a drug addiction and his "drugs." (when you are addicted to multiple narcotics, they often feel like a bad but intense relasionship.his best friend or lover) "the drugs came to me like the whispering wind." this person is trying to get out of his addiction, and is talking to the drugs as a person. "The hopeless time you gave to me" The person is opening his eyes to the destructiveness of drugs, and is starting to see what is real. nature, love, peace, a higher power.

He wants to sober up, and really aprechiate life. so he sees the drugs's dreams slip away as he movefs slowley towards a whole new way of life. yet, it makes him very sad, because of the hopless place inside his heart. It's still there.
he greifes, for the loss of the drugs, that has for so long filled the hopeless place in his heart.

but he feels a higher powers strenght in him, he feels protected. "like the rain on my windows every night, like the hope i have for us everytime" He has for so long pretended not to see how destructive the drugs are, but now he does not give in as easily because he is now inlightend and strengthend by mother earth or a higher power. "like the whispering wind in the top of the tree, i see it sway when you come for me" He is now alerted or aware of the way the drugs come sneeking up on you, and resists.

The second vers is both a conversation between this person and the higher power that has saved him, and his former "lover" (the drugs) The real whispering wind is genuin and good, it comes from the higher power , but the whispering wind is also refered to as the sneeky effect of the drugs. The diffirence is that the higher power he feels is real, and the drugs only gives an illusion.

i really think this song is meant to interpret in a way that you can use it in your own life, so that you too may overcome your difficulties and know the diffirence between the REAL and the ILLUSIONS.

A break up that's inevitable? Someone hurt the other in a relationship? Someone died in the relationship and the other writes on how it affects him/her?...I'm going to go with that one, but who knows.

This is one of the most beautfiul songs I will ever hear.

It's about a forbidden love.

I think this might be about drug addiction, and constantly coming back to it.

The term "whispering wind" makes it sound like a calling of sorts. A voice in the back of the mind that entices you to do something.

He speaks about a "hopeless place inside my heart" and how deep down he understands that ultimately the feeling that he gets, the immense satisfaction that is gained is all but momentary "when I look inside I see where we are". "There's a whispering wind I feel it inside, like a place I can feel but never will see"

"I stand in the way of the things I can be" I think means that it's holding him back in life. It impedes on his ability to be something better.

"Let the whispering win come lift us away, let it push us apart if we wish to stay" This is the part where the interpretation gets a little cryptic. I think that there was another person involved, and it's a drug-fueled relationship. Cause he then says "you're my sweetness, my baby, my love for all time - like the whispering wind it makes you all mine" - "like the whispering win you stand here with me - I see your dreams all slip away"

So it might be a toxic relationship, where both are users, and they can't get away from it. They know that its bad, that it's ruining their life, but their love for each other keeps them together, and yet it pushes them apart. I'm just basing this on a movie I watched called 'Candy'. And it's about two people who are addicts, and they find that whenever they're together, they just get high, but because they want to be together, they can't stop.

Make of it what you will - I could be completely, and utterly wrong.
