The first vers is a reflecting conversation between a person with a drug addiction and his "drugs." (when you are addicted to multiple narcotics, they often feel like a bad but intense relasionship.his best friend or lover)
"the drugs came to me like the whispering wind."
this person is trying to get out of his addiction, and is talking to the drugs as a person.
"The hopeless time you gave to me" The person is opening his eyes to the destructiveness of drugs, and is starting to see what is real. nature, love, peace, a higher power.
He wants to sober up, and really aprechiate life. so he sees the drugs's dreams slip away as he movefs slowley towards a whole new way of life.
yet, it makes him very sad, because of the hopless place inside his heart. It's still there.
he greifes, for the loss of the drugs, that has for so long filled the hopeless place in his heart.
but he feels a higher powers strenght in him, he feels protected.
"like the rain on my windows every night,
like the hope i have for us everytime"
He has for so long pretended not to see how destructive the drugs are,
but now he does not give in as easily because he is now inlightend and strengthend by mother earth or a higher power.
"like the whispering wind in the top of the tree,
i see it sway when you come for me"
He is now alerted or aware of the way the drugs come sneeking up on you, and resists.
The second vers is both a conversation between this person and the higher power that has saved him, and his former "lover" (the drugs)
The real whispering wind is genuin and good, it comes from the higher power , but the whispering wind is also refered to as the sneeky effect of the drugs. The diffirence is that the higher power he feels is real, and the drugs only gives an illusion.
i really think this song is meant to interpret in a way that you can use it in your own life,
so that you too may overcome your difficulties and know the diffirence between the REAL and the ILLUSIONS.
