Rhett Miller – Our Love Lyrics

richard wagner and franz kafka were both unlucky in love. wagner had an affair with a married woman. kafka was in love with a married woman (and may or may not have slept with her). this is about a love that is wrong because it's extramarital.

he has a reason to be cocky. what rappers do you know who have an inferirity complex? it doesn't change my opinion of his music- he's still amazing, even if personality-wise, he might be a dick. |

Bob Dylan – Restless Farewell Lyrics

when frank sinatra was retiring/having a birthday/some other celebration, he invited lots of performers to sing at it. he asked bob dylan specifically to sing this song. it's a great song-- saying goodbye, no regrets, moving on, etc. |

Bob Dylan – Shelter from the Storm Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
haha.. i don't think bob was a christian when "shelter" was released, so i wouldn't think it was about Jesus anyway. what i love about bob dylan is his use of metaphors in songs (edge of the world). lines like "she took my crown of thorns" doesn't mean Jesus-- i would guess he means he's been suffering and she helped him, took away some of his pain.
now there's a wall between us, something has been lost
i took too much for granted, i got my signals crossed
... great line |

Paul Simon – Still Crazy After All These Years Lyrics

"talked about some old times and drank ourselves some beers"
you can't pull that off with every old lover, but after enough time, sometimes it can work out to the "at least we can be congenial to each other and laugh over old times" level |

Billy Joel – This Night Lyrics

they have both been burned in the past, and meet each other, and say they're going to take it slow. but it turns serious a lot faster than expected. who wants to jump into a new relationship right after a bad one? they both realize it's the right thing, though.
Didn't I say
I needed time to forget her
Aren't you running from someone
Who's not over you |

this song makes me think of some guy who acts like a badass, but he's looking for someone a little deeper to start a relationship with. but he's playing a game with her.. trying to see if she can hold up. or not, i dunno. that's what i get out of it |

Bob Dylan – Like a Rolling Stone Lyrics

awesome. bob dylan is the best, no question. and this is one of the greatest rock songs of all time; really started a movement to "angry" rock.. before all this, there was just sorta happy love stuff or sad love stuff. and this was so different from most of the stuff people had heard. excellent. |

this used to be my theme song. hahaha.. ahem. but yeah, i totally think it's about trying to get a "good girl" to be a little crazy. and the sex thing is definitely implied.. "i might as well be the one." good song. billy joel rules. |

no comments?
i like this line: "there was never a plan tonight when i showed up at your door. althought i kind of knew all along that i would end up on your living room floor." it's like.. well, it's self-explanatory. but you don't always go to someone's place with an agenda: it just happens. and then you're drinking wine and there's a kiss and.. blahblah |

The Ataris – Looking Back On Today Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
haha.. he'd be kinda sneaky to do that, eh? givin' out the same song to all the girls..
here's my take (and damn, i don't know much but whatever):
"summer wind was always our song" is sad. and it's obviously a break up song ("these break up songs make sense again") but it's not an "i hate you" breakup song.
now, "looking back on today" seems more.. like, mature, kinda. i have no clue when he wrote this, or "summer wind," but maybe "summer wind" was written in more.. i dunno, desperation? but he's looking back, not in hurt and anger really, anymore (well, maybe a little), but more like "hey remember all that stuff we used to do? man, i fucked up, huh?" i dunno, maybe she's getting married or something.
i know when i look back at failed relationships, sometimes i get mad and then other times, i'm sad because things didn't work or i got hurt. and then other times, i can be really happy just remembering one time when he did this or that, or just a good memory.
so i sort of didn't answer my own question.
but i dunno, he just doesn't sound AS desperte and angry here. pretty powerful lyrics though. |

Bob Dylan – It Ain't Me Babe Lyrics

i love this song. it's so sad, and sweet at the same time, but it breaks your heart. i love you, but i'm not the one you want, or the one you need. you want someone who can give more of himself, and that just isn't me. maybe i want to be that person, but i can't. i'm sorry. you should leave me, because i just can't be what you need, regardless of how i feel about you or how you feel about me. |

i think it's cute that he says "playing 'summer wind' on the jukebox every where we go.." just a wild guess, but i'm thinking it's related to "summer wind was always our song." which is a great song. most of the ataris' stuff is. this is a really sweet, cute song.. i love it. :) |

Something Corporate – Drunk Girl Lyrics

as a girl who has been drunk once or twice and kissed a few guys (heh), i know what it's like. but i know what it's like to have a guy you like come on to you, too, when he's drunk. it's cool for a minute, and then you're like "dude. you're drunk." i dunno, it sorta sucks. but this is a great song. |
