WoW this sounds to me like it could be about people on strong anti-depressants. I've been on paxil and all kinds of SSRI's like it my whole life. They take away your emotion and ability to really feel and even love. So this song is kinda sad to me because it reminds me what the medications have done :( |

This song is my favorite by Calexico for sure. I never thought about the war, but I see that it could relate for sure. I always looked at it from the point of view from a shitty town like my own. Like the singer is talking about his town....

"Scatter like paper in the eye of the storm
Documented with a silenced note That's only heard from far away" - This to me would be those who left by suicide. The silenced note would be the gun shot.

Everywhere you look, you only see red" - More people doing the same thing... red = blood?
Ok... probably about the war, but this is the way I looked at it for a while.. pretty sad. |

I agree with modern man. This is their life.. actualy they say that in other new songs. They arnen't doing for others they are doing it for themselves and I think thats how it should be! I'm sure there is no comments because this song is so new, but to me it relates a lot. I'm withdrawling very badly from a drug I've been prescribed for about 10 years.. Anyway it means to me that they are singing about trying to destroy the parts in your mind or life that hurt, but they arn't sure if it's the right thing to do because they don't know what will happen or where the broken pieces will go. Beautiful song!! |

I guess I kinda got a different meaning from this song... I think the good son was only the good son to the Parents. He was thier trophy and they kinda ignored Bazan or whoever he's singing about thinking he was not as good as the "perfect son" (thats why he felt like he had jail shoes on cause they made him feel less immportant) And the lord only smiles cause he sees that they (the parents) are learning a lesson that thier other kid is just as immportant and good. Don't ya just hate it when ya don't know for sure the meaning of your favorite songs?? :) I Feel this way about allot of Pedro's songs and Bright Eyes... |
