Fire could be the tempation of a bad habbit or something they are trying to get away from. and one person can save them from the thing they are trying to get away from. They have asked for help before but they could still be waiting to be saved. that could be what its about.
not exactly sure, but it seems to me that the fire is the burning passion that he has to be with the one he loves. at some point they seem to have been separated, and only her return can quench the fire.
