great tune, intense lyrics and imagery. It's like tales of a fuck up. Also, is he referencing McDonalds when he says "Oh, you should have seen how the arches tumble They're golden no more" would be funny. |

| Matisyahu – WP Lyrics | 3 days ago |

This song to me sounds like reflection and guidance. A few thoughts on some of the lyrics: "My tool for inspiration turned into a handicap" I think this is about marijuana, and I relate to it because weed can be like that. You think you need it for (x) art, enjoyment, relaxation, etc... but it can become a handicap ... for example if you need to be stoned to enjoy anything. Also I have always loved this lyrics in the chorus: "Substance dulls the mind Traife wine clouds the heart You can't sew a stitch with one hand While you're taking it apart" I have felt a gravitational pull towards that lyric since I was in my late teens and abusing marijuana and other substances. How beautiful and concise though, and true. You can't sew a stitch with one hand while you're taking it apart. Alcohol and cannabis and substances can trick you into thinking you need them. If you wind up abusing them like me, they can pull the string apart of your life. You can't fix the problem until you take a step back and perhaps shelf the substances. Thanks Matisyahu for a great tune. |

Hauntingly introspective, one of the reasons I love Atmosphere. Dang he has a lot on his mind, huh? The verse to himself is beautiful too. sometimes Slug gotta give himself a break tho! |

| The Beatles – Revolution 1 Lyrics | 1 month ago |
|
@[twilight_sam:54866] @[gallium31:54867] I agree with Gallium here, and with Twilight here. I think it's about a Revolution, but warning against the easy (perhaps, common Korea, Vietnam, China, Russia) solution here which is communism. It seems the Beatles understood that a broken system is perhaps only made worse by communism, and violence is not the answer. |

| Traffic – The Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys Lyrics | 1 month ago |
|
Beautiful lyrics and great song by Traffic and Steve Winwood. I have been reflecting upon these lyrics, and it seems to me to be about substance use. What a clever allegory; "Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you, We were once children playing with toys" to me this is about perhaps coming to age and using substances heavily to cope, but without guilt. Children play with toys, young adults play with substances. It is what it is. but then Steve reflects, "If you had just a minute to breathe and they granted you one final wish Would you ask for something like another chance? Or something similar as this?" Toys are not inherently harmful, substances aren't but substance abuse is. I think it's a cautionary tale and a warning, which brings me back to the opening line "If you see something that looks like a star And it's shooting up out of the ground And your head is spinning from a loud guitar And you just can't escape from the sound" Stars don't shoot up out of the ground, it's an illusion. We think the substance is harmless like the child's toy, and filled with mysterious "star-like" powers. But Steve reminds us, "The percentage your paying is too high priced While you're living beyond all your means And the man in the suit has just bought a new car From the profit he's made on your dreams But today you just read that the man was shot dead By a gun that didn't make any noise But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest was The low spark of high-heeled boys" The high heeled boys are milking you while you reap the rewards of ... giving them everything and getting nothing in return. Great tune! |

| Jefferson Airplane – Third Week in the Chelsea Lyrics | 1 month ago |
|
What a beautiful, almost hauntingly introspective tune. I've always loved it since I heard it in college in 2009. "Emptiness ain't where it's at, and neither's feeling pain" beautiful. It's as if he is accepting his fate and describing how it feels marching towards it. |

| JJ Grey & Mofro – I Believe (In Everything) Lyrics | 1 month ago |
|
What a beautiful song. It kind of seems like a song that comes together after some sort of suffering, identity crisis where the protagonist may have been too focused on the past (depresssion) or the future (anxiety). Letting go of this view point, and returning to a focus and wonder of nature (common JJ Grey lyrical themes) leads us back to the beginning, a moment of faith and belief in ourselves and ... well everything! I have long been drawn to this song, and I really like JJ Grey's lyrics! |

great song. I can relate from the stand point of the circumstances of which I was brough in to this world led me to making unfortunate decisions many times in my life, becoming a soldier boy in a sense. and the verse about being in love with an impossible girl, being your breath in a strangle world. yes. check. Nice tune Mason! |

| Elton John – Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Lyrics | 1 month ago |
|
I never actually looked up the lyrics, and it was today I found out it is "you can't plant me in your penthouse, I'm going back to my plough" I always heard "I'm going back to my cloud" but I kind of prefer plough. It seems like a song about realizing you are out of place, being at peace with it, and saying goodbye to that path that led you to nowhere. great song! |

| Jim Croce – Box #10 Lyrics | 2 months ago |
|
Great song on many levels, but I relate to it as a Country Boy who didn't realize it until he was living in the city (mind you near New York, Hoboken) and realizing I was out of place. Jim Croce is the man!! I think Jim details what goes wrong simply being out of place, he can probably do no right in New York, since it is not his home. |

| Bruce Springsteen – Badlands Lyrics | 3 months ago |
|
@[Napawright:54451] @[Napawright:54451] great point. The line in particular strikes me as coming from someone who has been suffering at the hands of guilt - Catholic guilt. Maybe it's just my cognitive bias and coming from my Irish Catholic family of nuns who communicate poorly. But drawing on other songs in this album, notably Adam Raised a Cain; I don't think I'm too far off. |

| Bruce Springsteen – Adam Raised a Cain Lyrics | 3 months ago |
|
Beautiful song, deep on so many levels. Clearly about Bruce's dad, who I'm sure Bruce was similar to. I think this is about the difficulty of breaking generational trauma, and choosing a new path; to recognize the problems in you that you want to fix. And it is hard as heck to do it, as you can attest to the raw emotion in Bruce's voice. Imagine this song without any instrumentation, just Bruce singing. It would sound nuts, eerie, creepy and dark. The telltale line to me is "All of the old faces ask you why you're back They fit you with position and the keys to your daddy's Cadillac" He is expected to take the keys to his father's Cadillac, which to me is become just like his dad. But Bruce hangs on by his fingernails on the edge of a cliff. I love this song and album. |

| Jimmy Buffett – We Are The People Our Parents Warned Us About Lyrics | 4 months ago |
|
One of my first entries into Jimmy Buffett music as a kid (I was probably in 6th or 7th grade when I first listened to a Jimmy Buffett CD). I think I relate to Jimmy Buffett for many reasons but a big one is being raised in a strict catholic household being forced into Alter Servitude by my Irish Catholic mother. Anyways; I sure know that what I grew up to become after hearing this at a prescient young age is what my parents warned me not to be. a good lesson in psychology in a fun Buffett song methinks. |

| Jimmy Buffett – Lage Nom Ai Lyrics | 7 months ago |
|
I've always liked this song a lot. Even sings more care free than most Jimmy songs but still hits home. And I always thought it was melancholy gooey-based but it appears to be some sort of French word, I could look it up but I'm too lazy. Also maybe about losing your ego, packing your bag of mysteries, he's the man that gave up his own name in the roll of cosmic dice you win one hard you lose it twice, touching on a common theme of escaping the drag quitting your job, becoming a bartender, starting over and realizing it's just the same! Incident or accident, some of it's magic, some of it's tragic, hopefully you had some fun along the way |

| The Who – The Seeker Lyrics | 7 months ago |

As a truth seeker, this song makes total sense to me. In my righteous indignation, I search low and high, with my values I don't know how I got them. Of course it angers everyone! Most hide from the truth, while I am the mirror who makes them see the truth in themselves. And they are RIGHT to be pissed at me! What a jerk LOL. |

| The Who – Real Good Looking Boy Lyrics | 8 months ago |
|
This song kind of sounds like an inferiority complex to me, and I relate to that lol. I remember when this came out on the Who greatest hits ~2004, I was 13 at the time, and in the shadow of my older brother. I really related to this song as a self conscious squirt attempting to figure himself out in the shadows of a 3 letter varsity honors student smarty pants older brother lol; with an overbearing mother to boot. Kind of like Pete and what I presume to be Roger in the lyrics of this song. Great tune! |

| Jack Johnson – Let It Be Sung Lyrics | 9 months ago |

The cathartic release of playing, and singing music. Let it be sung, so we can carry on. For me it's about utilizing song, music, and the art it creates to process emotion, release us from what keeps us stuck, and carry on forward. Beautiful song. you gotta touch the bottom before you can come back up... |

| Middle Class Rut (MC Rut) – New Low Lyrics | 11 months ago |
|
@[ken06:52852] in the context of holding onto things, or not letting go; When he says he's got 52 cards in a row that he WON'T LET GO; he won't let go to get a new hand. He's stuck holding onto the 52 cards instead of playing his SH***Y hand and getting a new one. I relate to this a lot. Carl Jung said "There is no "healing". There is ONLY letting go." I struggle with depression too, and sometimes hold onto things from the past that just continue to hurt me. It doesn't make sense really. But when I have them, I guess at least I have something. To let them go almost scares me. Anyways, thanks for your interpretation. I'm having a rough holiday season as I usually do and this song popped into my head today. God bless, take care. |

| Arctic Monkeys – Teddy Picker Lyrics | 1 year ago |
|
I love the last line and want to get it framed on a sign, like a "Live Laugh Love" type of sign. It kind of reminds me of the Neil Young line in Old Man - "doesn't mean that much to me, to mean that much to you" and this time its Alex Turner. "Presuming all things are equal who'd want to be men of the people, when there's people like you." |
|
| The Roots – Now or Never Lyrics | 1 year ago |

"Will it leave me face down in the Chesapeake" I think is the line missing. Great song, I really like this album by the Roots. It seems to be dealing with the want to aspire to something we know we can be but dealing with the inner resistance along the way. |

| Arctic Monkeys – Suck It and See Lyrics | 1 year ago |

great great song, Alex Turner is a truly wonderful lyricist. I don't know how he comes up with a line like "you're rarer than a can of dandelion and burdock, and those other girls are just post mix lemonade" so creative and eloquent, he really is one of my favorite modern song writers. |

| Robert Earl Keen, Jr. – Corpus Christi Bay Lyrics | 1 year ago |

I love this song a lot, and I especially like the lyric "If I could live my life all over, it wouldn't matter anyway Cause I never could stay sober on the Corpus Christi bay" I might write my own rendition, it reminds me of when I lived at the Jersey Shore for a few years. It was such a party scene 24/7 I feel similar to REK, I could never stay sober ... Fun song |
