It's about going on a road trip to get away from a bad relationship. The whole album is about Dan's divorce from his wife Stephanie.
It's about a guy who is looking for a good lover but can't find one. He hits the road as he can't find a good girl in his town. He goes searching for his dream girl but after searching is afraid she doesn't exist. He is so desperate to find this girl he spends all his money looking for her but he just can't find her but stays on the road as he can't go back home to all the bad memories in his life from there, I believe he had a good girl there but it went wrong and was alone again.
Always loved this song. My favorite on the album Turn Blue, and this is one of the few more uplifting pop rock songs in a more somber bluesy album. Black keys RULE!
