@[NoiseIsNotMusic99:24147] I think this is the first time I've seen the heavy-handed religious type take it back. Good on ya, Noise - wish more would do the same on such occasions.

jonnyboymach3 - define arrogant? Suggestive sex makes me think up a ton of words, but arrogant? Where the hell do you get that??

Also, what is she saying when she howls at the end? Just before the 'i love him' coda.

Talking Heads – This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) Lyrics 18 years ago
I never knew so many were infatuated with this song. I always saw it as very cute in a non-grand sor tof way. The song is one of my favourites, but not really as a love song but more of a "content/carefree" feeling.
Of course I never deciphered the lyrics until reading this page - that view is mainly based on the music in and of itself. Maybe the lyrics will make a difference, we'll see

I've always thought the opening bass riff to this song was Les' bass version of Woody Woodpeckers' laugh. It matches perfectly, really

NOFX – Drugs Are Good Lyrics 18 years ago
imp:

It's a nice idea, but I think you're off base. The whole song is like an instruction manual on how to be cool, and how lame and contrived it is to fit a mould like that.

- Fat Mike never dropped out of school
- Even though NOFX do drugs, I'd bet my left nut that they do it for the fun it can bring, and not to be "cool" or fit in...one of their major ideals is individualism and all..
- "For no particular reason beat up everyone"..Fat Mike may be rebellious, but he's never been a violent person

NOFX – Cheese / Where's My Slice? Lyrics 18 years ago
Cool, never knew that it was actually about a particular person. Either way, they song also speaks volumes about the negative side of social services; that some people simply use them as a permanent crutch rather, milking the government titty rather than minimizing their dependence.

Best line in the song:

"You'll take away from others
the things they should be giving"

NOFX – American Errorist (I Hate Hate Haters) Lyrics 18 years ago
The "I Hate Hate Haters" is just a circular logic. If it said "I hate haters," it would be about someone hating people who hate. But this is about hating hate-haters, meaning he hates those who hate hate, I guess meaning he likes to hate. Fuck, the word hate is turning into one of those funny words after typing it so many times...

I with Rainy, the song's about how the thing's that get complained about in North America are in a totally different league than other countries (He only used Pakistan and Mongolia as examples, there's oodles more that he could've picked from). You thnk life is tough in the USA? Try these places...

Everyone may be entitled to their own opinion, but if you're trying to say that everybody's opinions are equally VALID then your critical thinking's for the shits..

Rush – The Spirit Of Radio Lyrics 18 years ago
The song's about how wonderful the radio (or ANY technology) is, in and of itself. The most important part of the song is:

"...All this machinery making modern music
Can still be open-hearted.
Not so coldly charted, it's really just a question
Of your honesty, yeah, your honesty...."

I think this part is for all those who think capitalism & technology are at fault for any decline in "soul" music might have. Music can have soul regardless of the medium involved, and money can even be made off of it if done with honesty and integrity.

Rush – Freewill Lyrics 18 years ago
I never really took this as an anthem for athiests. If anything, it's about agnosticism.

"If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choioce"

To me, that line is about a choice concerning the existence of a higher power (or any metaphysical problem, really). The song's about refusing to make conclusions without any backing. All we have is our own perception to bank off of, so follow it truly as you can.

god, the posted lyrics are horrible, makes me wish this site was a wiki so we could fix it up. It's Ben ZANOTTO ffs, there's even a Rancid song that is named after him.

Ah well

The song to me is just about a typical day in the life of Lars in as a teen. Loving music, drinking, and being with friends. The blurry vision about Rude Girl Carol is about how he was drunk and saw her as hotter than what she actually is, so he banged her

Mr. Bungle – The Bends Lyrics 18 years ago
It's about a guy who goes scuba diving, for god knows what reason - he's jsut scuba diving having a good time to "Aqua Swing". He has too much fun though, and forgets to check his oxygen levels - they're running dry and he's very deep int he water. The only way he can make it up is fast, but if he goes up fast he will get the bends because gases (Nitrogen) escape his bodily fluids and screw up his system. I'm not sure how bad it was though, and don't really know what the song is about for Love at the Event Horizon or Re-Entry

The Event Horizon could be seen as the edge of the world, so maybe the guy is on the edge of death while in a recompression chamber, and Re-entry is in terms of the gas bubbles re-entering his bodily fluids to safety (and him re-entering the world escaping death).

Mr. Bungle – Goodbye Sober Day Lyrics 18 years ago
deejuks -
The song is called Goodbye SOBER day, so while I agree with you about people generally tending toward interpreting songs as about drug abuse, you look like a dumbass in this case. Not saying the song is for sure about drugs, but the word "sober" makes for a pretty strong candidate over other things.

Knowing Patton and his anti-drug ways it very well might not be, especially from any personal experience. But, he did get drunk for the first time ever relatively late compared to others (so I read), so the song might have to do with that.

The syrup flow thing is about consonant sounding music...Stuff on the radio never has any dissonance/bitter moments - it's like pure syrup/consonance
Without any disonance, music becomes bland and predictable.

Primus – Seas Of Cheese Lyrics 18 years ago
Primus' first major label, as said above.
Pretty much a commentary on the music industry and how seriously the majority of the bands take themselves (who aren't all that shit-hot to be doing so. Les says "let's sail the seas of cheese," saying that they offer cheesy music as an alternative art form.

The lyrics to the Glen Miller song (googled):

A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H
I got a gal in Kalamazoo
Dont want to boast but I know
Shes the toast of Kalamazoo
(Zoo, zoo, zoo, zoo, zoo)

Years have gone by
My my how she grew
I liked her looks when I
Carried her books in Kalamazoo
(Zoo, zoo, zoo, zoo, zoo)

I'm gonna send away, hoppin
On a plane, leavin today
Am I dreamin?
I can hear her screamin
(Zoo, zoo, zoo, Kalamazoo)

K (K)

(Were goin to Michigan to see the sweetest in Kalamazoo)

Primus – Nature Boy Lyrics 18 years ago
The songs literally about how social pressures disappear when you shut the blinds to your house...there's nothing to be afraid of when you're alone at home.
I guess figuratively your blinds could mean personal inhibitions...if you shut them off, the fear of being yourself will go away.
Nature boy never shows his true self to anyone.

Primus – Puddin' Taine Lyrics 18 years ago
What the hell does Puddin' Taine mean (literally)??
Les also uses the expression in Sgt. Baker...something like:

"Sgt. Baker, here again. And if you calls me puddin' taine I'll stop you down, boy"

In that context it's an insult, but in this song it's a name of greatness? wtf?

Primus – John the Fisherman Lyrics 18 years ago
I always thought the song was about knowing yourself. John knew exactly who he was - knowing that, even the advice of his own mother was worthless to him because he already had his life figured out. By having John die as a result of his decisions, I think the point Les was trying to make was that he died a happy (albeit tragic) death, but loved every moment of his short life because he stuck to things which gave him personal meaning. You know, in a "We're here for a good time, not a long time" sort of way.

Bauds:

Exactamondo. The song's just asking whether the world controls us or we control the world.

Primus – Here Come The Bastards Lyrics 18 years ago
I always saw this song as self-referential - This was Primus' first step into popularity and that they aren't holding back for any faint-hearted weiners out there.
It's definitely got a comedic twang to it too. The use of the word Bastard probably stems from Les' love for british comedy. The comedy of this song is a tribute to Brit comedy.

Primus – Groundhog's Day Lyrics 18 years ago
Well put by those above.

Also, just to support the idea that the song is about resiliance:

"This little snapping boy might see the light this groundhog's day"

Groundhog Day on Feb 1 where everyone waits to see if the groundhog will stay out of his hole in the morning or see his shadow and go back into his hole. If he stays out, spring comes early; if he goes back in, winter lasts like 6 weeks longer.

So, back to the quote:

"This little snapping boy might see the light this groundhog's day"

Les was the "little snappy boy" with an attitude, but he needed to see the light for an early spring to come (perseverance) rather than see the dark - his shadow - and run back into his hole and stop trying.
