| Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians – Nothing Lyrics | 5 months ago |

Came across this song the other day. Every man in a relationship....with a woman....needs to listen to it. Basically a woman's perspective when she asks "What is wrong?" And us men say "nothing" Hit's home, in my case anyway... |

| @[fo0ts:53537] And menstruating heart definitely applies to a female. The "father" thing mentioned earlier is way off in my opinion | |
| Alice in Chains – Phantom Limb Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| I love this album, \n\nI\'d agree with those above, definitely a battle with addiction, good days and bad days...and it never goes away.\n\nTo the poster Shatman....I\'m fairly certain William wrote this song, not Inez an Cantrell. | |
| Jerry Cantrell – Hurt A Long Time Lyrics | 6 years ago |
|
I read a interview about Jerry comparing Boggy Depot and DT Trip 1&2. He said BD was like kindergarten and DT was like getting a doctorate. As good at DT is....boggy depot is right there with it. Sort of like zeppelin albums, can't pick your favorite one...it all depends on your mood that day which one you lean towards. Jerry is the greatest song writer of the past 3 decades in my opinion. |

| Jerry Cantrell – Hurt A Long Time Lyrics | 6 years ago |
| @[TransparentSunChild:30346] while I'm all for people getting out of a song what they want to get out of it, this was about a relative of Jerry's. I believe it was an Uncle or 1st cousin. Jerry has more sense and intellect to let that talentless Cobain affect any of his songs or writings. | |
| Alice in Chains – Lab Monkey Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
This song is about one thing and one thing only AIC coming out of "retirement" "I'm sure we'll find, what came before....it dies"! Plus it's talking about the critics and the pain going on.... |
|
| Jerry Cantrell – 31/32 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
maybe jerry was so messed up at the time he couldn't remember his age, figuring he was 31 or 32. ha! I wish someone would ask him in an interview one day what it means. |
|
| Jerry Cantrell – Spiderbite Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| catapillar body, butterfly brain simply means he's still a kid but he has been explosed and learned so much...i guess in this case...about drugs | |
| Jerry Cantrell – Between Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Found it MadSeason... http://w1.881.telia.com/~u88102099/Depot/articles/MTVchat_7-22.html MTVRock: MoleMann9 wants to know about the Monkey Man, "Jerry, I have a question about the song 'Between'... who or what is the monkey man you refer to in Seattle? I gotta know! Thanks!" Jerry: It's my dog. Monkey. I got blue tick coon hound. Its name is Monkey. |
|
| Jerry Cantrell – Between Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| If I ever see Jerry, I'll have to correct him. In an interview once, Jerry said the monkey man was an actual dog. Not every song about Jerry and AIC has to have a heroin reference...jeez | |
| Alice in Chains – Private Hell Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Thank goodness for Courtney Clarke, she was an inspiration for so many of Jerry's great songs. | |
| David Gilmour – Smile Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think its about a guy whos on the fence about leaving his love. He's pretty sure the relationship is over and figured the easiest thing is just for him to leave. I think he has put forth an effort to make things work but she just won't come around. She probably gives him a bunch of sh*t and he figures the only she'll be happy is if he leaves. | |
| Alice in Chains – Private Hell Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
to quote Layne Staley "whatever you think it is about, that's what its about". I think this holds true for most AIC songs, even these new ones. Just a different perspective, the love gived away and the love removed could be Jerry's girlfriend that he wrote so many songs about and Layne. I am pretty sure losing both messed him up royaly. Maybe the line about being afraid to let you all the way in could be about deciding to let William in the band and when they decided to do so, maybe Jerry felt a little like he threw Layne "out of the car"...maybe a little guilty. The whole song reminds me of being at a phsychatrist's office. Spilling all your guts, blood, in hopes to come out hole that you are in. And isn't it just like a phychatrist to always go "uh huh", "uh huh" |

| I wish people would post the correct lyrics so half the thread wouldn't be spent correcting them. | |
| Alice in Chains – Check My Brain Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I hope California doesn't fall off the map, Jerry will have nothing to write about! | |
| Alice in Chains – A Looking in View Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
To quote Jerry himself...."The song basically speaks to any number of things that keep you balled up inside. A cell of our own making with an unlocked door that we choose to remain in. Focusing our attention inward instead of reaching out to a much larger world. I think this is common to us all. It's funny how hard we fight to hang on to a bone we can't pull through a hole in the fence, or how difficult it is to put down the bag of bricks and move on." Official Lyrics Posted on AIC.COM by Uncle Jerry A LOOKING IN VIEW Written by Jerry Cantrell, William DuVall, Sean Kinney, and Mike Inez Hear footsteps creak the floor, The shadows give away. Someone outside the door, Won't let 'em in. Life damaged gears to grind, A run down, broke machine. That steals your peace of mind, Before you know it's gone... Silence burning, hold your tongue Keep us separate, sullen, dumb Hiding in a darkness under. Boiling to the surface, stumble fall. A looking in view too long on the outside desperate plans make sense in a low life These things I hate in you, Also reflect it seems. Distortion laced with spite, Takes you out of me... Silence burning, hold your tongue Keep us separate, sullen, dumb Hiding in a darkness under, Boiling to the surface something, Crawling on your skin, discomfort, Makes you break and run, stumble fall. A looking in view, too long on the outside Desperate plans make sense in a low life It's why you never tell me whatever's on your mind A looking in view too long on the outside Desperate plans make sense in a low life It's why you never tell me whatever's on your mind |

| Alice in Chains – A Looking in View Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Almost forgot, I know he isn't but I swear Williams is yelling Layne everytime he sings the "lay down" lyrics. Maybe that was supposed to happen. | |
| Alice in Chains – A Looking in View Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Great song but could have got the same affect keeping it a little shorter. I think the video helps make a little more sense out of the lyrics although I don't think the situations were at all views of AIC members, maybe just the director's. Too me, the song is about someone judging themselves, worrying too much about what others think about them and thus becoming somewhat of a recluse believing if they keep things hidden people won't be able to judge them and their problems will be solved or either they think they can fix the problem themselves without any help from the outside world....makes sense to me, looking at themselves from the outside, as we would look or judge someone in front of us instead of looking at their innerself. I'm probably looking a little too far into these lyrics, AIC was notorious about writing stuff that "whatever you think its about, that is what its about" to quote Layne. By the way, the Dirt reference at the end of the video was awesome, probably the only part I liked about it. |

| I hope you all know Nirvana didn't write this song | |
| Jerry Cantrell – Pro False Idol Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It's about the rockstar lifestyle, at least his experience. This album is as good or if not better than any AIC album he did. | |
| Black Label Society – Whiter Shade of Pale (Procol Harum cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
It dares a grown man to cry? Great song, been covered by others, willie nelson did a cover also. The orignal by Procol Harum is great. there are websites dedicated to this one song and discussions of its possible meanings. Some say it is about the sinking of the Titanic. I think it is about people just partying themselves to death and drinking and using drugs to ignore their problems, some suggest it was written about a women he forced himself upon and possibly raped. |

| Black Label Society – Peddlers Of Death Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I am assuming someone posted this in reguards to the acoustic version since Evil Ways and Color Green had no responses also. I like the acoustic version better. It's simply about drug pushers and drug users. | |
| Black Label Society – I Thank You Child Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song means a ton to me since I'm a new father and longtime BLS fan. | |

| Elton John – Curtains Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I came across this song after listening to a cover of it by Alice in Chains. Great Lyrics. Just seems to be about someone remembering being young. | |
| Jerry Cantrell – Feel The Void Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| my bad, meant "most of the album for that matter" | |
| Jerry Cantrell – Feel The Void Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I imagine Jerry was in a pretty f@#$ed up state of mind when he wrote this one...most of the album for that album. That is one deep and dark individual. I love it. | |
| Jerry Cantrell – 31/32 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| oh yeah 35, is about the last odd size you can get. | |
| Alice in Chains – Again Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I like the whole layne/media idea. It's like he agrees for an interview, does the interview, and when it's reported, it was all changed around and taken out of context which pisses him off. As far as the "heal her heart" line, from what I have read, Layne didn't have the best relationship with his mother at the time, I don't believe they spoke much if at all. Maybe that line refers to as long as the media puts my struggles out in the open like that, my mother is going to continue to think I have gone down the wrong path and she has failed as a mother. Just a thought. | |
| Jerry Cantrell – Psychotic Break Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I've felt like this a time or two | |
| Jerry Cantrell – 31/32 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I was joking people. The song was written before Layne died but wasn't released til after he died. He didn't know exactly where Layne would die but he certainly called it. Hotel room, apartment, all means one thing, dead. | |
| Jerry Cantrell – Hurt A Long Time Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The last line is a misprint in the cd cover, or get on with dying is the last line in "satisfy" | |
| Chris Cornell – Killing Birds Lyrics | 18 years ago |

| Chris Cornell – Silence the Voices Lyrics | 18 years ago |

| Led Zeppelin – Since I've Been Loving You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I personally believe it is the greatest modern day blues song ever written, at least by a white man | |
| Jerry Cantrell – 31/32 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It was his pant size at the time. Duh | |
| Temple of the Dog – Call Me A Dog Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It is about his relationship with his parents | |
| Megadeth – When Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I believe this song is about Nick Menza, Nick Menza supposedly started to show his ass in the bad and whine a lot, Dave wrote this song to sort of make fun of him. | |
| Black Label Society – Layne Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's cool because you hear someone knocking on the door and a cat at the end of the song. Sadie, Layne's cat, and despite not eating for approximately two weeks, survived and is now owned by Jerry. The knocking is when they come to check on Layne and ultimately find him. | |
| Black Label Society – Peddlers Of Death Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is about drug pushers...peddlers of death, bearing promises of feeling fine. | |
| Alice in Chains – Would? Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I know, this site gets lyrics wrong in a lot of songs | |
| Led Zeppelin – Since I've Been Loving You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This solo was done on a Telecaster! not a Les Paul. | |
| Jerry Cantrell – Between Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I do know that the monkey man is his dog... | |
| Led Zeppelin – That's the Way Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is about Racism. Plant had a friend who was black but he was too young to ever understand why his mother wouldn't let him play with him. Children are too young to understand those concepts. | |
| Zakk Wylde – Throwin' It All Away Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is about the lead singer of Blind Melon who died | |
| Zakk Wylde – 1,000,000 Miles Away Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| he uses a Gibson SG on this song instead of a Les Paul | |
| Alice in Chains – Right Turn Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is about Andrew Wood and girl he shot up with the night he died. Lyrics also go along with Temple of the Dog's "All Night Thing" | |
| Temple of the Dog – All Night Thing Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is about Andrew Wood's last night on Earth, last night using. It is about the girl who tricked him to shoot up for the last time, not about sex. | |
| Jerry Cantrell – Satisfy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| First of all, you left out the last lyric. The last lyric is "or get on with dyin'." it is actually misprinted on the cd sleeve also. Listen and you can here it. Also, several of the lyrics come from the last narrative by Morgan Freeman in Shawshank Redemption at the end of the movie. Pretty cool fact. | |
