Between Lyrics
Going to California
Try and find my head
Gonna swim in the ocean until I'm dead
Let the infection spread
On my way to Texas
Drive up on my ranch
Gonna take you fishin' up big branch
Well now you're my catch
Somewhere in between the wrong and right
We fight
It's fair to say that in your eyes I'm wrong
And in my mind, that's alright
Off in New York City
Good to see some friends
Scratched my nose upon a barrette on her head
Laid up in a rental bed
Then back home to Seattle
Fed the monkey man
I proceed to throw up all over my hand
Well it ain't so bad
Somewhere in between the wrong and right
We fight
It's fair to say that in your eyes I'm wrong
And in my mind, that's alright
That's alright
Try and find my head
Gonna swim in the ocean until I'm dead
Let the infection spread
On my way to Texas
Drive up on my ranch
Gonna take you fishin' up big branch
Well now you're my catch
Somewhere in between the wrong and right
We fight

And in my mind, that's alright

Scratched my nose upon a barrette on her head

I proceed to throw up all over my hand
Well it ain't so bad
Somewhere in between the wrong and right
We fight
It's fair to say that in your eyes I'm wrong
And in my mind, that's alright
That's alright

MTVRock: MoleMann9 wants to know about the Monkey Man, "Jerry, I have a question about the song 'Between'... who or what is the monkey man you refer to in Seattle? I gotta know! Thanks!" Jerry: It's my dog. Monkey. I got blue tick coon hound. Its name is Monkey.
I do know that the monkey man is his dog...
Monkey Man refers to the use of Heroin.
If I ever see Jerry, I'll have to correct him. In an interview once, Jerry said the monkey man was an actual dog. Not every song about Jerry and AIC has to have a heroin reference...jeez

I give my husband a hard time all the time because he's right so often that this song means a lot to me. One day while I was still in college, I was listening to this song on the CD of Boggy Depot and the chorus almost sounded just like my hubby. I then had to call him and let him know that Jerry set me strait:)
The line where Jerry refers to the monkey man: Then back home to Seattle Fed the monkey man I proceed to throw up all over my hand Well it ain't so bad
I will never be able to listen to in the same way again. At least two people told me that it sounds like Jerry is saying that he is wacking off and cumming all over his hand. That will always come into my mind-LOL
@MMQC I can feel my brain rotting a little reading this juvenile interpretation. Nickelodeon Paradigm or not, you are in the presence of greatness when you speak in Jerry's chat room.

Bump*
Given Jerry's past history in AIC I thought 'back to Seattle' (Layne Staley's hometown) and 'fed the monkey man' all referred to Staley and the monkey on his back as in his heroine addiction?
