| The Gaslight Anthem – Sweet Morphine Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| @[jmw9:5593] I tend to disagree, seeing as Jupiter is preceding. They're both mythological gods, with Orpheus being a particular charmer. So it makes perfect sense that mythical figures are trying to seduce his lost love while he does anything to get through the pain (sweet morphine - either figuratively or literally). | |
| Modest Mouse – The Tourist and the Tortoise Lyrics | 10 years ago |
@[Callarb108:2978] Interesting interpretation, though I thought the term "tourists of the dead" referred to the fact each of us has been dead for thousands of years and will be dead once again very soon, and right now we're just "visiting" being alive. As such, we don't care for the mysteries of the universe - we just want immediate wealth and happiness and couldn't care less what happens once we die again (tying into the theme of Lampshades on Fire). |

| Two Door Cinema Club – What You Know Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I really don't think you can read into the video clip all that much to the meaning of this song. Otherwise I feel like the lyrics would more closely reflect cheerleaders throwing themselves at you all day. | |
| Two Door Cinema Club – Come Back Home Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| *you're. argh.... | |
| Arcade Fire – Windowsill Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"Btwz", you know the translation of "uber" from German is essentially "very" and is used for emphasis and is not a compliment in itself. Just so next time you can write at least one sentence in your post where you don't sound like a tool :-) |
| The Wombats – Jump Into The Fog Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I assume 'the fog' is just the large grey area of moral standards involved in debaucherous activity. | |
| Art vs. Science – Flippers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Oh come on. Get real. Flippers are simply being used as a metaphor for hands. |
| My Chemical Romance – DESTROYA Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I had been thinking it was "I guess this time we're the enemy." but alas, the booklet has shown me for the fool I am. | |
| Jimmy Eat World – Here It Goes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I consider this song as the sequel to The Authority Song. Not in terms of lyrics, or meaning... just in the general vibe the song gives you. It's a happy dance number that makes you feel good without having you to think any deeper about what's actually going on. | |
| Brand New – Be Gone Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Oh yep, I get it. If I don't like a track or some method they've used, then clearly I'm not a fan and I shouldn't listen to them. You guys are morons. |
| Brand New – Noro Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song wants to make me kill and eat my young too. It's good shit...! |
| Brand New – Be Gone Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| ....and you just don't get 'music'. | |
| Brand New – Be Gone Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is a waste of a track. Very disappointing, really. Same with the bloody long intro and outro on Daisy, and also at the start of the song Daisy. All this unnecesary garbage that detracts from what Brand New is actually capable of. | |
| Brand New – At the Bottom Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yeah I actually tend to agree with you. The more I listen the more I think it's about coping with the death of somebody close. But I just simply cannot agree with these people that are stating it's about a past relationship. It's a fucking joke, there are THREE lines (the first three) that imply something about a relationship, but the rest clearly convey the topic of death. Honestly, I just think he's grieving over a loved one and dealing with feelings of despair etc etc. |
| Brand New – At the Bottom Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I agree. Heaps of Devil and God was about a relationship. Particularly Jesus Christ. I really felt him missing his ex in that one. And again in Millstone. Handcuffs. Limousine. Fuck man, so many of those songs. BryanMac... You're an idiot. |
| Brand New – At the Bottom Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm doubtful of the "failed relationship" theory. Just doesn't really fit that well. I'd say it's most likely about the death of a loved one...lowering it down is definitely the coffin. Another angle which works with the pills and "I hope that you would do this for me" is the concept of euthanasia. All the friends are dead because if/when euthanasia is legalised, more and more people will use it and pass away. This is why there's something dark in his heart and why he spoke of the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost before turning to dust. The euthanasia concept works better than the failed relationship theory. |

| Manchester Orchestra – Anne Louise Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"he...murdered her" I think that's a bit of an overstatement. I think it is about a car accident in which he was driving but she died. It's just guilt and sadness, feeling that he is responsible and trying to deal with it. |
| Brand New – Battalions Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I presume that was sarcasm so I give you two thumbs up! | |
| Evermore – Hey Boys and Girls (Truth of the World Pt. 2) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| you're both idiots. | |
| Manchester Orchestra – I've Got Friends Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I thought this song was quite obviously about his struggle with sexual immorality. Hence, the "friends in the right places" who are Christian brothers who "don't want him to stay" and are encouraging him to stay sexually pure. The "need it quickly" I presume are to do with sexual urges, which are obviously quite overwhelming and strong. I thought this was dead easy, but nobody here seems to think this. Maybe I'm alone in the universe... Or maybe this board is full of druggies and lonely hearts, ha ha. |

| Fall Out Boy – (Coffee's for Closers) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
According to Rolling Stone's interview with Patrick Stump, the "I will never believe in anything again" is relating to when Bush won presidency. It's NOT most *definitely* to do with Obama. Fuckwits. http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/24617886/qa_patrick_stump |

| Snow Patrol – The Lightning Strike Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This song is EPIC!!!!!! So amazing. Particularly the first part, of course. |
| Snow Patrol – Crack The Shutters Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is so sweet and romantic. It's everything we love about Snow Patrol. Amazing! |
| Fall Out Boy – What a Catch, Donnie Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Hasn't grown on me all that much.... Decent song though. I think I would appreciate it more if I could really understand why they're itemising all their previous singles. Maybe rather than a love song of how she puts up with him, it's about how the fans have embraced and accepted the changes in Fall Out Boy's career? Like, listing the past and saying "you still love us, even through all of this - thank you...." or something? shrodes - it's definitely not a brand new reference. It's an old saying, and Brand New used it in Play Crack The Sky, and now Fall Out Boy are using it. Saying this line is referencing Brand New is VERY VERY VERY stretched. |

| The Getaway Plan – Shadows Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Sounds like doomsday to me. Someone can't keep up and they're about to die. Symbolism maybe? Who knows! Fantastic song though. |
| Kisschasy – Doomsday Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is awesome. Where is it from originally? | |
| The Killers – Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I saw them in Sydney last night, and interestingly when he sung "until I hold you tight." he held out his arm and made a gesture like he was choking an invisible person. So the song is clearly about a murder, and holding her tight is definitely not meant in a romantic sorta way... Interestingly, he made the same hand gesture in the line "she couldn't scream while I held I close" in Jenny Was a Friend of Mine. They performed the whole murder trilogy in order. It was a pretty awesome show. |

| Say Anything – No Soul (feat. Anna Waronker) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Sounds like it refers to people getting drunk and the pop culture in bars. | |
| Say Anything – Shiksa (Girlfriend) (feat. Caithlin De Marrais) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
shiksa = A non-Jewish girl. That doesn't put the song in a "totally different perspective", I have no idea what you're on about Bambiii. The only line that even refers to the concept is "i found god when you left him"...wow... this song means so much more now. wtf? |
| Sean Kingston – Beautiful Girls Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is fucking crap. Anyone who likes it should be burnt at the stake. | |
| Say Anything – Spores Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's not a fucking metaphor! | |
| Say Anything – Skinny, Mean Man (feat. Pete Yorn) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Why does everything have to be a metaphor?!?! Why can't he write about Zombies?!?! | |
| Say Anything – Alive with the Glory Of Love Lyrics | 18 years ago |
ps - not necessarily "find" love in the holocaust, but just the topic of love and the holocaust. Again, fuck you emo dickwads. |
| Say Anything – Alive with the Glory Of Love Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's about finding love in the Holocaust, it's not a metaphor. Max has quite clearly expressed that. You people are plain and simple morons. I mean, feel free to relate it to your fucking 16 year old emo puppy love problems, but please, before you post them up here... go fuck yourself. Hard. |
| Say Anything – Skinny, Mean Man (feat. Pete Yorn) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The song is about the guy crazy in love with a girl who was murdered by her evil boyfriend, he has a strong desire to bring her back to life so they can be together at last. Lyrics relating to the murder of the 'super-amazing girl' by her boyfriend * "i smelled what he did to you, girl" * "stretch your fractured pretzel spine" * "...take...revenge for the crime" * "you're awake from the grave that he dug" Lyrics suggesting he wants to bring her back to life to be his: * "if only you’d start breathing, i’d court you exclusively" * "with my shovel i’m pounding earth ‘til suddenly i see / you awake from the dirt and the grime" * "filled with fire and finally mine" * "with a wail you let them know you’re furious, you’re back / you awake from the grave that he dug" * "Well aware that I'm falling in love" Seems to be pretty clear... However, I'm not quite sure how drinking gasoline makes anything go faster. That's the confusing bit... Anyways, even though it's slightly disturbing, the uniqueness of Max's lyrics has always been an appeal to why Say Anything is so awesome. |

| Something For Kate – Dean Martin Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Sounds like a man who's unhappy about many aspects of their life! Rockin' song. I never bothered to dig into their old stuff til I heard this classic. |
| Something For Kate – A Fool's History Pt. 1 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Awesome stuff. I reckon it's about pouring your heart out to a one-nighter. Hence the lying there listening to someone's life story (fool's history). Part I, I presume, is because it's the first night and they don't know if it's going to go anywhere or not. |
| Manchester Orchestra – Where Have You Been Lyrics | 18 years ago |
yeah I can create an account and pretend to be in the band too, but I'm not a fuckwit like you little teeny bopping wankers. Don't believe everything you read. He sings joy several times on the album. Clearly. Very clearly. Accept it. |
| Kisschasy – Spray On Pants Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Clearly, this song is about following trends and how lame it is. They've got better songs, I don't know why they'd release this one as their second single. |
| Yellowcard – You and Me and One Spotlight Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I disagree. Strongly. I reckon this song relates could relate to touring, hinted by the "spotlight" reference. I don't think it's about sex, because the only line that possibly relates is: "And then we'll lie down. Ill hold you close then..." BUT... It's not "we'll lie down AND THEN I'll hold you close", it's "We'll sing this song out AND THEN we'll lie down. I'll hold you close, then I'll let you know when etc etc..." The important difference is he's not lying down holding them close. He's singing the song out, and then he'll lie down. Clearly, what he does after a gig... "One more show, one last time" ---> The last show for a particular city. "say you'll help get me through the ending" --> singing along to the encore. "say you will be all around me" --> Fans surrounding the stage. "sets your heart free" --> being passionate about your music as a form of cathartic release. Now, that's just an interpretation. But I think it's a better one than sex. I think the concept of a guy lying on his death bed is even more likely. "say you will be all around me" --> surrounded by friends and family before he dies. "say you'll get me through the ending" --> support as he faces death. "when your body sets your heart free" --> death, obviously. "it won't be long now" --> death, obviously. This has gotta be the most plausible explanation. |

| Brand New – Degausser Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The definition of degausser (dictionary.com) states: "a device, esp. one used in filmmaking, that can erase a whole roll of magfilm, audiotape, etc., so that it can be used again" This can clearly fit into the whole religious concept of the album through Jesus Christ wiping all your previous sins and giving you a fresh start, ie degaussing your sins. There's massive inconsistencies across sites for the chorus, and I personally feel that he says "I've been asleep in the incline" and "I feel safe in the incline" (wtf is sleeping in alkaline?!?!), and in the later one, he merely says "in-ca-line" just spanning it out, who knows why. Now, given that - the chorus fits into this "degausser" theory. Running ---> Afraid of God's judgement. Asleep in the incline ---> Dead, being raised to heaven. Feel safe in the incline ---> Feeling confident that he'll be given God's grace and get into heaven. However, as this occurs - he can't shake the feeling he's stuffed up just too many times. I'm on my own ---> Same as in Jesus Christ, when he arrives, he won't know anyone. The verses/bridge seem to talk about either a chick (the ring, come back to my bed, set apart etc etc) or God or a struggle with God ("take apart the demon... love you so much...get under my skin", but still craving the bad 'sinful' things so "let the bad parts in", "I'm still the king - now the storm is coming" because of blasphemy....he is claiming to be God, but could also just mean that he's still controlling his own life rather than giving it to God). All this seems to make sense in my head. Take it at face value I say, he talks about a lot of different things that don't seem to link together whatsoever. Hope I've helped someone somewhere. |
