You and Me and One Spotlight Lyrics

It won't be long now
The music's on loud
We'll sing this song out
And then we'll lie down
I'll hold you close then
And let you know when
The space and time bend
And then we'll fall in

Go put on your best tonight
It's you and me and one spotlight
One more show, one last time
We are ready

Say you will be all around me
When your body sets your heart free
Say you will be all around me

I'll look for your eyes to keep me inside
When everything dies with one last sunrise
And when we stand there
Together not scared
I'll dry your last tear
And then we're just air

Go put on your best tonight
It's you and me and not much time
To watch the world burning bright
We are ready

Say you will be all around me
When your body sets your heart free
Say you will be all around me
Say you'll get me through the ending
Take my body, set my heart free
Say you'll get me through the ending

Go put on your best tonight
It's you and me and one spotlight
One more show, one last time

It won't be long now
Say you will be all around me
When your body sets your heart free
Say you will be all around me
Say you'll get me through the ending
Take my body, set my heart free
Say you'll get me through the ending

Say you will be
(It won't be long)
All around me
(It won't be long now)

This song is about two people facing the end of their lives together. What causes their demise is not indicated, but it is not a surprise (old age, end of world, etc). It's about not dying alone.

It has nothing to do with sex or virginity - not by any stretch of the imagination.

Seems to me like it's a song about facing death, seeing as it's "one last time", "last sunrise" and he hopes that he'll love that person forever, and that she'll be with him forever, even tho shes not here physically, "when your body sets your heart free"

I agree with rebelwithalostcause. It's very end of the world-ish, as if they are just waiting for the bomb to drop and living their last moments together. He says, "And when we stand there Together not scared I'll dry your last tear And then we're just air"

Meaning they will disintegrate into air when the explosion/radiation/etc. hits them. But its also about his last moments on earth and being with her. so its a mix of both. Except sex lol

I think the song is about sex too. I love it a lot though.

I disagree. Strongly.

I reckon this song relates could relate to touring, hinted by the "spotlight" reference. I don't think it's about sex, because the only line that possibly relates is: "And then we'll lie down. Ill hold you close then..."

BUT...

It's not "we'll lie down AND THEN I'll hold you close", it's "We'll sing this song out AND THEN we'll lie down. I'll hold you close, then I'll let you know when etc etc..." The important difference is he's not lying down holding them close. He's singing the song out, and then he'll lie down. Clearly, what he does after a gig...

"One more show, one last time" ---> The last show for a particular city. "say you'll help get me through the ending" --> singing along to the encore. "say you will be all around me" --> Fans surrounding the stage. "sets your heart free" --> being passionate about your music as a form of cathartic release.

Now, that's just an interpretation. But I think it's a better one than sex.

I think the concept of a guy lying on his death bed is even more likely. "say you will be all around me" --> surrounded by friends and family before he dies. "say you'll get me through the ending" --> support as he faces death. "when your body sets your heart free" --> death, obviously. "it won't be long now" --> death, obviously.

This has gotta be the most plausible explanation.
