| Hilltop Hoods – Tomorrow Will Do Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| the line "i'm done keeping it real i keep it relevant" is from Urthboy's song "keep it relevant" from his 2004 album "Random Sense of Distant Menace". (Urthboy is one of the founding members of Aussie hip hop band The Herd) | |
| PJ Harvey – Sheela-Na-Gig Lyrics | 20 years ago |
The four things PJ lists at the beginning represent all the things men want from a woman. Children, sexuality, work (housework) and charm. But for this man, it isn't enough. I like the parody of the 50's song line "gonna wash that man right outta my hair". |
| PJ Harvey – O Stella Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Stella Maria has some catholic releavnce (I'm not sure about the full story behind it) but from this song it seems Stella Maria was meant to be a saint of something, hence the gold wall hanging, and something PJ can pin to her chest (cameo). Stella Maria is latin for 'star of the sea' or 'star of mary'. | |
| PJ Harvey – Joe Lyrics | 20 years ago |
isn't silver knife a reference to Hercules or some other deity? The washing with hair is obviously a reference to Mary magdelene. |
| PJ Harvey – Fountain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| this song seems to have religious undertones. Is that just me? Alot of references to nature remind me of Adam, esepcially "bearing leaves, petals green". When Eve was rejected from garden of eden, she was naked to feel shame, and then the male character "covers me in all my shame". | |
| PJ Harvey – Hair Lyrics | 20 years ago |
also delilah's motives seem to be more desire for samson and to have him as hers rather than hate, which I think is an interesting twist. When samson discovers what delilah's done, he chucks a shit and says some pretty nasty stuff. Its interesting to get both views. |

| Le Tigre – F.Y.R. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i always thought the ten short years were referring to the 70's. More happened then than in the 90's, which I think was actually one of the steps back. | |
| Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks – Jenny and the Ess-Dog Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I'd like to know what happened to Trey. | |
| Fourth Floor Collapse – Sun Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| choosing to be depressed and not expect anything because he's afraid that if he opens up he'll get hurt or let down. | |
| Youth Group – Skeleton Jar Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I always thought that the title "skeleton jar" was referring to the subject's emptiness - all he fells like is a body holding his skeleton and nothing else. Also the final verses seem to refer about everyone leaving him (probably friends moving away and getting on with their lives etc) |
| Youth Group – Forever Young Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think the song is rather appropriate for the OC. It's sad, yet associated with youth and could only fit properly as a final ending. I love how Toby says "are you going to drop the bomb or not" | |
| The Grates – Rock Boys Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I always thought it was "rock set boys on top" as in how men always dominate the rock industry. Hmm. | |
| Holly Throsby – We´re Good People, Why Don´t We Show It? Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I always thought the line "we're good people but why don't we show it?" was meant to be about how in their relationship neither of them are trying to be the better person, not giving enough and having bikering arguments etc (from the stop threatening to leave line). | |
| Le Tigre – TGIF Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| from an interview, LT said the song is meant to show that it's okay to work a shit job that doesn't align to your beliefs because it's just a job and we all need money to survive. | |
| Le Tigre – I Wish I Was Him Lyrics | 20 years ago |
The band was Noise Addict. The song was written about how uber-cool Evan Dando is. The original line was "but he plays guitar much faster than me". And instead of magazines it's NMEs. Kathleen's also slowed the song down alot. Ben still plays it at his shows. Love! |
| Le Tigre – Eau d'Bedroom Dancing Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I always thought it was about sex, because the "more, more and more" line. And all day bedroom dancing... as if you haven't done that (unless you're underage..) The rest of the lyrics can be more generic. "Im in the sky when I'm on the floor" means she's high (NOT NECESSARILY ON DRUGS) or happy. "The world's a mess and you're my only cure" means it's an escape, something to cheer her up. "No one to criticise me then" is that its private. |
| Le Tigre – Much Finer Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I read in an interview that it's supposed to be about people bitching behind Kathleen's back about her being a feminist, and how they saw it as doing nothing, hence the apathy angly. | |
| Le Tigre – My My Metrocard Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I read in an interview that it was meant to be about sticking it back to Guiliani by abusing the metrocard system (where you can ride all day? Am not sure, never been to NY) | |
| Le Tigre – Viz Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I always thought that she was commenting on lipstick lesbians, or chicks who just pretend to be lesbians because it's trendy: "There’s a girl Her lips that have never seen She comes up Dances on me I look into her eyes I say "Hey, you’re not a dyke"" |
| Le Tigre – Les And Ray Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| add: who proved to her that music could be an espce from the abuse she suffered. | |
| Le Tigre – Gone B4 Yr Home Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Apparently the male dialogue "yeah babe" was something Kathleen's ex-boyfriend had said to her previously, in all seriouslness. The rest of it is pretty explanatory - Kathleen's leaving because she'd rather be alone than be with a jerk-off. |
| Sleater-Kinney – Male Model Lyrics | 20 years ago |
about the comparisons of women vs men in the rock n roll area. the Male Model is every male rock and roll god that's appeared in past history (Elvis, Johnny Cash, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain). She's saying that she could very well be the next model, with the lines: "Now do you hear that sound as the Model breaks Take the Stage?" The line "could you show me your riffs?" is a parody of the degrading "show us your tits" catcall often associated with women on stage. |
| Sleater-Kinney – Words And Guitar Lyrics | 20 years ago |
The lyrics always seem like their taunting the listener with their own music: "it's the thing you'll never know it's the thing you'll never own" And I always wondered about the contrast of loud rock and roll to the silky, quiet songs. Maybe they want both? Maybe its meant to be a parody of how girls are only meant to play pretty songs? |
| Sleater-Kinney – The Size Of Our Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
who is amy and kristy?? Anyway, I always saw this song as the horror of having said husband in hospital: "You're my hospital groom... Put the ring on my finger, so tight it turns blue" Who eventually dies of tumours: "Our love is the size of this hole in the ground Where my heart's buried now " |
| Sleater-Kinney – Little Babies Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Salvo I think you've got it. The references to cleaning, washing up are there to reinforce the traditional idea of women, which leads to the maternal 'care' and 'support' of groupies. eg: "come inside I am your shelter" |
| Sleater-Kinney – Youth Decay Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I always though the lines: "Daddy says I got my mama's mouth, I'm all about A forked tongue and a dirty house" were in reference to verbal abuse the dad was giving her about being as useless as a housewife as the mother (forked tongue as talking back, dirty house as unable to clean, clean, clean) As for the line "am I rotting out", I believe its in reference to inner anxieties from holding everything(thoughts, repression by father) down. These lyrics are definetely to do with the effects of female repression. |
| Sleater-Kinney – Heart Attack Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| THe first line of the lyrics are missing. It's the song title. "heart attack" | |
| Sleater-Kinney – Get Up Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I thought the song was about death and dying than about love and desire: "And when the body finally starts to let go... Good-bye small hands, good-bye small heart good-bye small head" As in reference to the soul leaving the body which is then free: "My soul is climbing tree trunks and swinging from every branch" I saw the line "They're calling on me" as spirits calling her, maybe not to heaven but to join them, where everyone, no matter who they are are together. Even the video clip plays on this with everyone picking everyone else up, holding hands. |
| Sleater-Kinney – You're No Rock N' Roll Fun Lyrics | 20 years ago |
especially with the shiny stars and the rotating platforms. I read in an interview that YNRRF was written about a certain band s-k had the 'pleasure' of supporting with a female lead singer. Any ideas? |
| Sleater-Kinney – Modern Girl Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I thik when Carrie said it's about death she meant the death of happiness. The line "anger makes me a modern girl" refers to how everyone (especially women, riot girls) in the past years are angry with everything, almost like it's a trend. |
