you have a miserable childhood. you think of escape. you have neighbours who play musical tunes on the piano. their songs and the idea of them singing together---all happy and having fun together---gives you hope that someday this (the miserable childhood) too will come to pass. i love this song. makes me wish i had neighbours like les and ray when i was growing up.

Has anyone read the "The heart is a lonely hunter" ? This really reminds me of Mick Kelly and her passion for music. How she sneaks out of her house and spends the night sitting in a bush just to listen to the music coming from her rich neighbour's house.
