| Pet Shop Boys – Love Etc. Lyrics | 16 years ago |
No no no. It doesn't say _exactly_ that. I think the meaning is pretty straight forward, no second guess between the lines. It just says that to get love, stuff like money, power, fame, beauty are not really needed. But as the song points out, in the chorus nonetheless, they sure do help! It isn't placing love above all that stuff, or stating that a love based on any of those is less valid... it isn't a preachy song. Just an authentic, cynic, lovable one :) Great way to come back, PSB! |

| Dude. She's not a robot. You don't 'install' her love ;) | |
| Black – Wonderful Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Yeah, dinek. I second that. I've always thought of this song as the opposit version of "Alone Again Naturally", tragic lyrics on top of a happy, campy melody ;) |

| Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog – Bad Horse Chorus Lyrics | 17 years ago |

ha ha ha. And the most distrubing thing, at the end, when we learn that Bad Horse is actually... A HORSE! Genious! And what about the other bad guys? Fake Thomay Jefferson? Dead Bowie? XD |

Yup... he HAD another song!!!! Wonders never cease, right? XD By the way, according to a friend, he sounds much like Carly Simon, of 'You're So Vain' fame... and I kind of agree with her. ;) |
| Yo La Tengo – Cherry Chapstick Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is quite literal. Looking at pretty girls all the time, wondering who's the lucky guy dating them. Beauty so out of your league that you won't even try, just try to find solace in contemplation; and perhaps delude yourself calling their attitude 'lurid', 'cause they revolt you... yeah, they sure do revolt your hormones. ;) |
| Belle & Sebastian – Expectations Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Curiously enough, I was hearing this song on my way to work today, and thought to myself... mhhh, now this song... this whole band has a Velvet Underground vibe. Came to check the lyrics and, behold, there's a Velvet Underground reference right up there. And about Juno, there should be an Oscar for best soundtrack ;) |

| Blancmange – Waves Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| So much waves... I think I've drowned. | |
| Bobby Goldsboro – Honey Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Got to know this song through Don No Soul Simmons cover. Made me remember my own silly memories. No matter gay or grim, it's those tiny little sparks... Daily life that makes me forget my wounded heart. It doesn't matter when, it may rain or it may shine... Blurry memories of us come back from time to time. |

| Yo La Tengo – Let's Save Tony Orlando's House Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The most famous song by Tony Orlando was a duet with Dawn, on the '70s, called "Tie a Yellow Ribbon ('round the ol' oak tree)". You can hear Don 'No Soul' Simmons cover it on 'Amazon Women on the Moon' XD | |
| The Police – So Lonely Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I saw them playing yesterday here, at the Santiago National Stadium (a 50.000 crowd). Amazing, perfect show. But when they where playing this song, Sting changed a portion of the lyrics. He replaced the line "Welcome to this one man show" for "Welcome to the Stewart Copeland show". I'm not really sure if Stewart appreciated the inclusion, as he kept looking him with a fixed expression while playing for the rest of the song. Could there be some interesting backstory here? |
| Sonic Youth – Little Trouble Girl Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I use to sing this song changing the verse "we were close; very, very close" for "we were close; very, f****in close" just for the kick of it... kind of ads a little despise for the mother. To me, it sings to the mother saying "you didn't prepare me for the plasures of the flesh", no warning on the overwelming power of desire. Whatever relationship we had an thought so indestructible flew away with the first huff and puff of the wolf. |
| Cock Robin – The Promise You Made Lyrics | 18 years ago |
What!!!??? No comment at all for this testament to love? Probably one of the best "love songs" I've heard, with a great combination of lyrics, music and specially delivery... Not particulary excelling in any one of those, it reaches a great balance between them. Sometimes, when you utter 'I'll love you forever' you're not just giving a compliment; you're just stating a fact, for better or for worse. |
| Kraftwerk – Neon Lights Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Saw them playing here in 2004... incredible show, three giant screens, 4 "DJ's", no movement... and an exhilarated audience. ;) It's a show worth seeing. And speaking of covers, has anyone heard the interesting covers Señor Coconut did of this an other Kraftwerk songs? A really interesting take on the style. |
| The Alan Parsons Project – Games People Play Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's more about a couple that has lost the feelings towards each other a long time ago, but kept together for their childs sake. Now that they've grown up, and maybe even left home they wonder what to do now. They have been left to themselves, the kids won't even call them (how do we spend our lives knowin' nobody gives us a damn) Should they try to revive the long lost sparks? But how could they, if they've come to know each other so well, so they can't even lie about it (If I promise you the Moon and the Stars, Would you believe it?). The only thing that's clear is that he's not willing to Quietly fade away, so he want's to leave. Don't think he'll do it, dough. Inertia is a powerful state. |
| Propaganda – Duel (Eye to Eye) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
What? No comments on this song that exudes 80's? I think the meaning is fairly obvious. It's comparing the whole history of a relationship to a knives duel, the lies and deceives are the ones that, blow by blow, kill the love... the lovers are nothing more than duelists. Very popy, somewhat obvious, but a bloody truth all the way. |

| The Wake – O Pamela Lyrics | 18 years ago |
More than 3 years ago I ended up a relationship with my girlfriend, curiously enough, the 16th of November. I thought I was making the correct decision. And perhaps I did as the relationship was wearing down by that time. But that doesn't help with the longing feelings of loss. And, much like in the song, the last time I spoke with her was on the phone, discusing a heavy rain, a thunderstorm that was hitting the city. She kept on talking about the weather, all I wanted was to embrace her. The "I have no soul" line is dead on on the "emptiness" of the aftertaste... a feeling one can carry for years, uninterested in anything. Eventually, over time, you get over it; but a racconto can show you that those feeling are there... just buried. |
| David Bowie – Absolute Beginners Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's the title song for the homonymous 1986 film, starring David Bowie as well. About the song, ok, it's a simple tune, with simple lyrics; but not without depth. To me, the guy says: I'm absolutely, deeply in love... but I'm not mad, not crazy ('And I'm absolutely sane'). He is mature, and lived enough to recognize a deep emotion without the blindness off love madness. On the other hand, the relationship is just beginning, but he's sure that it will survive whatever lif throws at them, and it's a concious, cerebral statement ('With eyes completely open'). I can relate to it particulary in the seeing your couple as your whole world ('As long as we're together, the rest can go to hell'). This song is about maturity, the rediscover of a feeling of youth, with a new perspective, and the nervousness of the projections. |

| It must have been something awful, as he's apologizing for more than 10 minutes ;) | |
| Echo and the Bunnymen – The Killing Moon Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's a bit of all those four ideas... It's death as a unrelinquish lover. One that comes for you and won't let you go. You have no other choice than to give up to him (as it seems to be sung to a gal. If it were to a guy, it should say "give yourself to her"). So: a. If you are a believer, that makes it about God too b. Death IT'S an obsessive lover c and d are also killing lovers... or may even be the deliverers of death. And it's a very goth theme too. Perhaps the whole core of goth movement, and it's facination for death, as the final embracer. Just check out Neil Gaiman's 'Death' in Sandman ( http://tinyurl.com/yqk3f3 ). As for me, when death comes, I hope she does as Scarlett Johansson :P |

| Blood, Sweat & Tears – You've Made Me So Very Happy (Brenda Holloway cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song fills me with hope, and perhaps some melancholy. | |
| Everything but the Girl – Missing Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I wouldn't call it obsesion, as I define that as un unjustifiable grip to a past relationship. There's nothing in the lyrics to suggest that the feelings towards the former loved one are unjustifiable. I've noticed a lot of you, fellow posters, are quite young. Don't want to diminish your feelings, or past relationships. But as a somewhat older guy (31) I AM in the place this song describes. 3 1/2 years since she's gone, ond somehow still unable to really move on. How, an why should you move when what you lost wasn't just a good gal, a funny woman, but truly the one you wanted, needed to spend the rest of your life with? You eventualy (as I did) decide to move on, cutting all connections... but your heart won't follow. Sometimes you find yourself unconciously driving by where she lived. You don't know if she still lives there, has moved, or even died... single? married? divorced? with kids?... happy? It's not that it never rained in the desert, but that it did long, long ago. The desert yearns for the rain, and the comings years have proved to offer nothing that can compare. And the worst part of all... is that the song provides no hope... no hope at all. |
| Queen – Somebody To Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |
hey, kids... I'm 31 one, going 32 this year... and have to tell you, it doesn't get easier with the years. specially that line "At the end of the day I take home my hard earned pay all on my own" seems to have been written for those of us that live alone... each morning, waking up to an empty big bed, wandering where is that freakin' one for me, piling up past relationships, wondering when, if ever, you're going to meet the one that sticks around.. can be really, really depressing. The ghosts of xmass past lures in the back of the mind of those of us with too good memory for their own sakes. |

| Lindsey Buckingham – Trouble Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Someone please tell Lindsey to stop singing about me!!! It's almost insulting that no one has comented on this haunting ballad from yesteryear. What really amuses me is the wide range of this guy compositions... from his participation on Fleetwood Mac (could this song be about Stevie Nicks, his former love?) to the campy Hollyday Road from Chevy Chase's Vacation. Oh, I think I'm in trouble... |

| Mama Cass Elliot – Make your own kind of music Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think that the meaning of this song is particulary relevant to Desmond's job: You're gonna be nowhere The loneliest kind of lonely It may be rough going Just to do your thing's the hardest thing to do Perhaps the whole library of record was carefully selected by Dharma's psicologists to encourage and motivate the hatch crew, to keep pushing the button. On the other hand, it may refer to the big picture. I have this theory that the Dharma initiative where trying to influence, manipulate reality, either through genetics manipulation, electromagnetism, psichology, etc. (remember the "history" part on the orientation video). If this is it's meaning, it may refer to " Do not conform with the way the world is. Go out and change it ! ". The numbers: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42, may be the constants they're hoping to change... the result to some equations. When they enter them into the computer, it runs them through the system, and checks if the results have changed... like adding 2 plus 3 gets 5 everytime... but if you're able to change mathematics themselves, maybe it would sum 6, or 4. Anyway, just a thought. |

| Chingon – Malagueña Salerosa Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's because this song IS old... This is just a new version of it, in a kind of rock key... and it sure rules... excelent way of ending Kill Bill 2 ;) BTW, some lyrics are not quite well translated. For example, the lines: Ellos me quieren mirar Pero si tu no los dejas Pero si tu no los dejas Ni siquiera parpadear. are, more precisely: They want to look at me But if you don’t let them But if you don’t let them Not even to blink… |

| Ivy – Lucy Doesn't Love You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I was introduced to Ivy, and particularly to this song, by a girtl named Lucy, whom I kind of liked, but didn't like me back, at least not in the way I wanted to... talk about irony ^_~ | |
| Jimmy Harnen with Synch – Where Are You Now Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This ballad has existed like... forever. ;) Ok, ok... just since the 80's... but in my mind has existed as long as I can remember. Nothing new on the lyrics, just an pleasant melody... but as simple as it sounds, so simply true too. Who hasn't thought what happened to some former love? Is she/he/(it?) happy, sad? Does she remember you at all (and in what sentiment) Is she even alive? Do I really want to know these answers? As far as I concern, mine got married, and that's as far as I want to know ;) |
| Cake – I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Is it just me, but I hear in this version more of an irony, like the guy things the lyrics trying to show that he has moved on, but the interpretation cleary shows that he hasn't. More like showing strenght while still being in pieces... Love the little updates, like "should've change my FU**IN' lock". They show a little bit of discontrol, not really controling the feelings.. ;) |

| Yazoo – Nobody's Diary Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Wrong. This song is from Yaz, not Yazoo. It's from their 1983 album " You and Me Both". Now, to be quite honest this group's first name was... Yazoo ;) So it's the same duo, but a later work, under another name. |
| David Bowie – Little Wonder Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I've readed somewhere that the Bowie wrote this song with the intention of writing a lyric that incorporates the names of the seven dwarfs from Snow White: Dopey, Grumpy, Doc, Happy, Bashful, Sneezy and Sleepy... not that you can't work out a nice tune from the concept, too ;) | |
| Joan Baez – Here's to You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Aditionaly, there was a 1971 film by Italian director Giuliano Montaldo called 'Sacco e Vanzetti', that covers the case. The soundtrack was written by composer Ennio Morricone and sung by folk singer Joan Baez. The notable song Here's to You was a hit for her. | |
| Joan Baez – Here's to You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well.. I do, and since I was born ;) But I think this aren't the lyrics for a single version, but lyrics for three different language versions. In fact this isn't all in spanish. The first verse is, obviously, in english, the second one, however, it's in french, the third one a mixture of badly sintaxed spanish with the third line in latin, and the whole last verse in spanish. As far as I can tell, the four verses say more or less the same: 2nd: Now Nicolas and Bart, you sleep deep in our hearts, you were all alone in death, but by it you will vanquish it! 3d: I sing here Nicola and Bart, your end and your prision. And to die gave you freedom and a place in my heart. 4th: I sing this way Nicola and Bart, to whom hate slavery. to whom knows to love truth I sing strong and Liberty. This song refers Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, two Italian anarchists, who were arrested, tried, and executed via electrocution in the American state of Massachusetts in 1927,although there was popular doubt regarding their guilt. Sacco, a shoe-maker born in Torremaggiore, Foggia, and Vanzetti, a fish seller born in Villafalletto, Cuneo, were accused of the killings of Frederick Parmenter, a shoe factory paymaster, and Alessandro Berardelli, a security guard, and of robbery of $15,766.51 from the factory's payroll on April 15, 1920. Both Sacco and Vanzetti had alibis, but they were the only people accused of the crime. As a result of what many historians feel was a blatant disregard for political civil liberties, and a strong anti-Italian prejudice, Sacco and Vanzetti were denied a retrial. Judge Webster Thayer, who heard the case, allegedly described the two as "anarchist bastards". more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacco-Vanzetti |

| Happy End – Kaze Wo Atsumete Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Translation (found on the web, not mine ^_~) (1) As I was walking down a towering alley In the outskirts of the city I saw beyond the blotched fog A streetcar still sluggish from sleep Crossing over the sea (Chorus) That's why I want to gather the wind (under my wings) Gather the wind (under my wings) And run across the blue sky. (2) As I passed through a beautiful sunrise I saw beyond the empty-looking breakwater A city with its day-colored sails up Moored in the port (Repeat) (3) When I was killing time one morning At an empty coffee shop I saw through the cracked glass The rustling of the high-rises' silken clothes Brushing on the sidewalk (Repeat) |

| Yo La Tengo – Little Eyes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I really, really love this song... To me is about a guy who lays next to his sleeping girlfriend, contemplating the beauty of her sleep, deeply in love... as she murmurs and twiches in her sleep, he think he knows what she's dreaming about... sh'e dreaming about the two of them, and sort of a nightmare... she barely open her eyes, and sees her lover eyes closely watching over her... safe again, relapses in her sleep... There's no more pure expresion of love to me than admiring your girl in her sleep... Oh boy, do I miss that. |

| Chris De Burgh – The Lady in Red Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Ciruosly enough, I also have my own take on this song. I used to think it comes from a father that sees his daughter at perhaps prom night all dressed up, looking as a gorgeous lady... and he just cannot see there the little girl he used to... He keeps his distance, and see every other kid going nuts about her... and even dances a piece with her... Fatherly love here, at least for me... no more red riding hood , but a Lady in Red. |

R U sure? I did some research thru the net, and couldn't find that cover U R including here.... the lyrics are identical to Ministry's (AFAIK) sole version. My guess is that you're mistaking... probably downloaded the theme from some p2p and was wrongly labeled (happens a lot) |
| Suzanne Vega – Tom's Diner Lyrics | 19 years ago |
On a side note, the lyrics 'I open up the paper/there's a story of an actor/who died while he was drinking/he was no one I had heard of' refer to William Holden, whose death was indeed reported in the New York Post on November 18, 1981, when the song was written. He died from a laceration to his forehead, which was caused by hitting his head during a bout of heavy drinking. He apparently remained conscious for half an hour or so after the injury but never realized he should phone for help. Had he done so, he would surely have lived. |
| Jim Croce – Photographs And Memories Lyrics | 19 years ago |
One of the saddest, most moving ballads to the mories of former loves... nothing new here, but anyway so true. photographs, the sole testimony of the intangibility of lost feelings, the only proof that the loved one existed... even if she/he is still around, it's not the same person that lives in the memories, and frozen in time in pictures. |
