| The 1975 – Is There Somebody Who Can Watch You Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Damn, heard this song for the first time earlier and found it very intense. Based on the lyrics I got the impression it was a sick husband telling his wife that he hopes she is willing to find love again after he is gone. | |
| Funeral for a Friend – Captains of Industry Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Very cool song that appears to be about how the workers and unions are taken advantage of - worked to the bone for a pittance while the manufacturers make billions. | |
| David Cook – The Time of My Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| very glad that David Cook won Idol. Not so glad that he is now burdened with this cheesy song as his first single. As a huge David Cook fan, hearing him singing about magic rainbows on the horizon is dissapointing. Hope the Idol producers who now own his soul allow him to make the rock record he's supposed to make and steer clear of bubble gum pop. | |
| Thrice – The Whaler Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| absolutely unbelievably gorgeous song. I was floored the first time i heard it. I had no idea Thrice had the kind of music found on the Water disc in them - it's very refreshing. The final "ohhh's" are beautiful and emotionally very climatic - so I disagree with the poster who said they didn't like them. | |
| Vanna – A Dead Language For A Dying Lady Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I thought the meaning of the song is pretty obvious. It's a metaphor for a woman in an abusive relationship who refuses to be broken. In the end she is strong and leaves him. | |
| Coheed and Cambria – Gravemakers and Gunslingers Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I have to disagree with unkown that this song is the battle with Ryan. In my opinion this song does portray a huge battle but I think it is between Claudio and Mayo. We need to remember that, although it was orchestrated by Ryan, it was Mayo who systematically destroyed Claudio's family and I think he goes through most of the story aching for revenge on Mayo and not Ryan. Ryan is an after-thought and I think the final battle between the two of them takes place in The End Complete III on a space ship after House Atlantic has fallen. So yeah, this song is the battle with Mayo. Following is Justice in Murder which I think takes place in the time-span of just a couple of seconds...it's Claudio with Mayo at gunpoint/knifepoint/whateverpoint and debating whether he should kill him (he does) and following that he debates whether he should then cease continuing his journey as he has completed what he meant to do from the beginning, that is kill Mayo and avenge his family. |

| Coheed and Cambria – Feathers Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It's obvious that Claudio has approached Newo to try and part on good terms. The thing is I am not sure how this confrontation plays out. I can't decide if he just comes to say goodbye to her since he has decided to confront his destination and knows that he is going to die. However, (and maybe I just have a smutty mind) I can't get over the feeling that Claudio ends up having sex with Newo during this encounter even though she is with a new guy. I love this song - Claudio's vocals carry it all the way. I honestly thing this may be his most impressive vocal performance in any song because the music isn't interesting enough to hold our attention for the entire time. This is all about Claudio's vocal work because this song is much more interesting than a song like Blood Red Summer which is in the same pop-vein but simply doesn't have quite as powerful a lyrical performance. |
|
| Coheed and Cambria – No World for Tomorrow Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| incredible song - my favorite on the album. The first time I heard the shout "Raise your hands high!" was one of those jaw-dropping musical moments I live for. This song is pretty clearly a battle-cry. I think Claudio is speaking to small army of Iro-bots (Claudio is an IRO-bot as well, thus referring to them as "young brothers and sisters.") I'm thinking an epic battle takes place between the IRO-bots and the Red Army. Claudio is of course driven by a bloodlust caused by his torment of the Writer killing Ambellina which is how Good Apollo I ended. Thus the final "I'm the Crowing!" declaration as he becomes some great monster and really fucks shit up. | |
| Coheed and Cambria – Mother Superior Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think this song is a discussion between Claudio and "Mother Superior (MS)." It could be Mariah, the ghost of Amebellina or even God (I've always been pretty sure that God in this story is a real person rather than a divine being). "You'll just say the worst of me, with a hope they'll understand. No, they know you're just a boy, so grow up and be a man. Little baby, kicking, you scream and whine. Victims pay the price eventually. The cost, let's see... your life." I think this whole part is MS explaining to Claudio, "look, you are just a boy. It's not fair for you to have all this responsibility placed on you, but guess what? It is. And you've know about this for a while now so it's about time you stop whining and just deal with it." She explains that she knows that completing his mission will probably cost him his life but she tells Claudio to just deal with it, no matter how unfair it may seem. "You've got nothing to prove. Stay afraid, young brother. You've got nothing to prove." MS saying to Claudio there's no shame in being afraid - you don't have to prove yourself a man by pretending now to be frightened by the situation you find yourself in. "Mother Superior, come catch the rabbit, he runs." Claudio asking MS, "I'm afraid and I want to run away and forsake my responsibilities...convince me not to run" "My, how've you been? You're frightened of leaving this truly gone fishing amalgam. Go fetch your gun." MS replying to Claudio, "You're frightened but that's OK. Now go fuck people up." So yeah that's my interpretation of at least some of the lines. I'm extremely interested in hearing other people's interpretations too. |

| Coheed and Cambria – Justice in Murder Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think the meaning of this song in the story is pretty clear. Wilhelm Ryan has retreated and Claudio has his final confrontation with Mayo. Claudio knows that Mayo is the one that orchestrated the death of his entire family and essentially his entire mission throughout the story has been more to get revenge on Mayo than save the Keywork. Claudio kills Mayo which, to him, feels like obtaining justice (thus Justice in Murder). "Will, I now grow old to forget all those? Blow off sorrow, goodbye tomorrow." After killing Mayo, Claudio has an internal struggle. He has exacted vengence for his family which was always his goal. Now he is trying to decide if he should just let Wilhelm go, forget his responsibilities as The Crowing, and forsake the fate of the world. Of course he eventually decides not too and thus we get The End Complete III which is the final showdown. |

| Coheed and Cambria – Gravemakers and Gunslingers Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| outside of the context of the rest of the album I can definately see why people wouldn't like The Running Free...I think it's going to be the "Blood Red Summer" or "The Suffering" of NWFT - the poppy radio single. However, when you put play it as part of the album as a whole I'm sure it will blend much better just like the previously mentioned songs do. Such is the way of concept albums. This song, however, I think is great. It's definately got a different feel to it - a little more of a groove than most Coheed songs. Overall the release of these two songs has completely reignited my excitement for this new album just like "Welcome Home" did before Good Apollo came out. I think No World for Tomorrow is going to be brilliant and can't wait to hear what Chris Pennie brings to the mix. | |
| Coheed and Cambria – Gravemakers and Gunslingers Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| heh, sorry S0S, didn't see you got there 3 minutes before me. I like you're interpretaton of the chorus more than mine. And damn good job on the first verse. | |
| Coheed and Cambria – Gravemakers and Gunslingers Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Here's the complete parts I got. Chorus: "What I need is (one in the same?) Just give it a push while I kick-start Theres just no time for this Come on, it’s just the ???? I’m looking for Don’t want to live no more You’ve got the gun, I’ve got the bullets Don’t want to live no more Baby be my lover go on and pull that trigger" And the final verse/outro, whatever you want to call it (after the last solo). "We’ll keep marching to the top of this tower As god isn’t at home There’s nothing in the way that can stop us It’s your time to go" This song is BITCHIN'! |
|
| Every Time I Die – Champing at the Bit Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| yes, daryl from Glassjaw is singing the choruses on this song. So good. | |
| My Chemical Romance – Famous Last Words Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The bridge after the solo leading into those soaring high notes over the repeated chorus acting as a backdrop? Absolute brilliance, I always said that this band knew how to write edgy songs with incredible hooks and I agree with anyone who's said that this song (and album) feels like a very natural progression. | |
| Metallica – Sweet Amber Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| You'd think ONE person would have the guts to tell James that the expression is "I SCRATCH your back, you scratch mine" But no, James says "wash" and everyone is too afraid to tell them he's wrong... | |
| Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I mostly agree with thisisnotjohnnyv's interpretation of the song. I think it's definately Jesse pondering whether or not he deserves to ascend to heaven when he dies. I want to take it a little bit further though. I think, in the end, Jesse sort of accepts his fear and maybe answers his question. "I know you'll come in the night like a thief. But I’ve had some time alone, to hold my lions at bay. I know you think that I’m someone you can trust. But I’m scared I’ll get scared and I swear I’ll try to nail you back up" -He is saying that he knows that death, or maybe Jesus Christ, will come for him "in the night like a thief" to take him away to the afterlife and that he should accept it and not be afraid. But Jesse is afraid, he's afraid he will resist and "nail him back up," basically doing something terrible in his desperation to change fate and thus ruining his chances at a happy afterlife. "But we all have got wood and nails" -Jesse acknowledges that nobody is perfect and everyone has the tools to commit a great sin, in this case crucifying Jesus is the metaphor for the greatest of sins and he is saying we all have the tools to commit this terrible evil. It's a dark, depressing thought but at the same time, Jesse comes through realizing he's not the only one who's every sinned and maybe his chances for ascending to heaven are better than he thinks. I love this song, I've been listening to it on repeat all day and I seriously think Jesse Lacey is one of the greatest lyricists in modern music. I'm so excited about this new album and I find I love Brand New more and more with each record. |

| My Chemical Romance – Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I've been listening to MCR since "I Brought You My Bullets..." and am definately not the stereotypical MCR fan (I'm in my twenties) and I have stuck with them through all the hating the past year or two. People need to realize that they were writing these punk/emo tunes from the very beginning. If you listen to them from the beginning, their sound really has not changed that much. As far as this song, I never even knew they were coming out with a new album but I found this tune on myspace and I'm absolutely floored. I think it's incredible. There's a ton of feeling in the song, it's about keeping the memory of a dead father (or anyone close to you that died) and letting that memory give you strength through the rest of your life. The song sounds a little corny at times, what with the opera-esque instrumentation. In fact it sort of reminds of my Dragonforce. But anywho, I'm really really excited for the new album now. This song just sold me. I remain happy that MCR has made it to the big time because they definately deserved it. |

| Taking Back Sunday – Error Operator (Louder Now version) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Loud, aggressive, frantic. Fuckin GREAT song! | |
| Cartel – Write This Down Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song is about a situation a lot of "nice guys" can relate to, about somebody coming to them when they feel down just to hear some friendly compliments to make them feel better. This song calls out against that behavior, he is basically saying "I'm sick of you using me to feel better about yourself, so write down the words I say and keep them because this is the last time I've ever going to repeat them." This is probably my favorite Cartel song (especially those "ooo's" before the chorus) and I can definately see them hitting the mainstream in the not-too-distant future. |

| The Number Twelve Looks Like You – Like a Cat Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| these guys are absolutely out of their minds! | |
| Minus the Bear – I'm Totally Not Down with Rob's Alien Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
first time i heard this song I thought it was about a kid that masturbates in his house when his parents leave him alone and then getting caught. Also thought one of the lines was "They always come home at the wrong time Like when I'm online and don't need no one at all." Still not totally convinced that's not the lyric. Good song though |
|
| Something Corporate – Konstantine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The ridiculous number of comments on this song is proof of how amazing it is. I don't like SoCo all that much but this song has remained my absolute favorite for 5 years now. I'm 21 and still haven't "outgrown" it. I still can't describe why either, I mean the whole thing is 4 chords repeated over and over for 9 and a half minutes but it's the emotion behind the performance I suppose. | |
| Nobuo Uematsu – Advent: One Winged Angel Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| that he was but so was Red XIII in the movie but I love him in the game. Yes Cait Sith is pretty commonly despised by a lot of FFVII players but you can't pass judgment on his importance in the film. Most of the party from the game exist in the movie just to make that big cameo appearance in the fight with Bahamut (exceptions being only Tifa and Vincent really) | |
| Dredg – Triangle Lyrics | 19 years ago |

"Watch it explode Wild fragments of irony's examples fly and hit the shore..." as well as the changes suggested before. |

| Panic! at the Disco – There's a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought of It Yet Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Everyone's got it right saying this song is about being jealous of the guy's popularity/fame/whatever. The numbered tables reference in the title supports this because at formal functions you generally associate the lowest numbered tables to have the "best" people and the "worst" people at the lowest table. Like the fat rejects at the family wedding sitting at table 13. | |
| Glassjaw – Trailer Park Jesus Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Must fix these lyrics. "I'm the body laid a 9 on my sleeve/I'm a bitch girl" is actually... I'm the body laid anonomously on the beach, girl on the beach doesn't that make so much more sense? yes yes it does. Anyway, I've been rediscovering Glassjaw as of late and this song and Two Tabs of Mescaline have been the ones that blew my mind. I love these guys. |
|
| Glassjaw – Two Tabs of Mescaline Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| this song rules. someone asked about the Turkish Prison reference. Yeah it probably just refers to a person hell but the expression is most likely from the movie Midnight Express. | |
| Team Sleep – Blvd. Nights Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think it's the 3rd idea, about sex. THe lyrics don't give too many hints but based on how Chino tends to write lyrics, a ton of them have to do with sex, so if the glove fits... | |
| Dredg – The Canyon Behind Her Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Dredg certainly knows how to close an album; this is there best song of all 3 albums in my opinion. First time I heard the choir bust in at the end I lost my mind. Dredg definately trancends the label of musicians; they are artists in every sense of the word. | |
| Coheed and Cambria – The Willing Well I: Fuel for the Feeding End Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| this is the craziest prog shit Coheed has ever done. I dig it hard | |
| Sigur Rós – Hoppípolla Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| the lyrics translated sound a bit goofy but this song has so much hope embedded in it and it just makes me so happy every time i listen. Saw them do this one live and Jonsi played a semi-hollow bass so we had a 2-bass song and it was pretty fantastic. | |
| Coheed and Cambria – Always and Never Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Slight correction. Here I'm still waiting here, my dear For one kiss from you So hear I'm still waiting here, my dear To Kill all of You This album is going to be off the charts, Coheed is one of those few bands that seems to get better with each album. |
|
| Brand New – Okay I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| There's plenty of Brand New songs directed towards TBS and vice versa but I'm sticking with my belief that Jesse wrote this song for himself. I think it's just a very tongue-in-cheek description of how he's better than everyone because it's such a difference from the usual YFW song themes of betrayal and being worthless | |
| Dredg – Planting Seeds Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
"A sea shell in a sea of shells" The sea of "shells" are bullet shells and finding the sea shell within them supports the albums theme of opposites; in this case finding something beautiful amongst something ugly. Catch Without Arms, according to Gavin, is based around the concept of two distinctly opposite things that, when put together, result in harmony. Sort of like Yin and Yang. |
|
| The Good Life – Album of the Year Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| the song is incredibly clever and I enjoy it more every time I listen to it. It makes me sad though because the guy blew it with the girl because he got too needy and clingy. Just goes to show you have to have your own life outside of a relationship; let the person be a part of your life without actually BEING your life. | |
| Dredg – Whoa Is Me Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
what is the deal with the end of this song? With the guy talking. "it was inspired by the clarity of consciencness rather than the vividness of greed..." I'm figuring this isnt a weird mp3 of the song that I have. If it is and no one knows what I'm talking about I apologize. Either way, Dredg is incredible. |
|
| System of a Down – Bounce Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I was listening to the song and randomly caught something I hadn't noticed before. During the 2nd verse part does anyone notice that some of the music is very close to the Legend of Zelda dungeon music? It's not farfetched to think that SOAD did this on-purpose considering their Zelda song. | |
| Mineral – & Serenading Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| There's definately a lot of religious suggestions in Chris' lyrics but he has said himself in interviews that it was never his intention and some people just took his songs to be about God and that's fine since it's about what each individual gets from the song. But nope, I agree with everyone else here that the song is about the loss of innocence and the ability to be passionate about things like one is as a child | |
| Dredg – Ode to the Sun Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
My favorite song off of Catch Without Arms. This is probably wayyyy off the mark but I look at this song as a plead to celebrities who's 15 minutes of fame are over to let be. I think he is using the metaphor of a car crash to symbolize the skidding halt of their celebrity. Anyone thats ever passed an accident on the highway knows that traffic slows way down while they pass it because every single person is rubbernecking, straining to see what happened. Once you pass the site traffic speeds back up to normal. In this case I think he is referring to the people who simply keep watching the people who don't want to be forgotten (ie. celebrities on reality shows like Vince Neil, Uncle Joey, etc.) because its just a natural instinct, like the instinct of looking at a car wreck if you pass by it, no matter how hideous. The line "Please accept it's over, t his is all for you trancend" means simply "please except your 15 minutes are over...move on" and the main line that gave me this farfetched idea was "you've already set us free" meaning you've already entertained us or taught us something on a mass scale, there's no point in staying in the spotlight because there's nothing more you can offer to the people. I wouldn't think think so deeply about these lyrics and just take them for what they are if it was any other band but I trust Dredg to force you to look beneath the surface of the lyrics and realize something not at first apparent. Also the current craze with celebrity-shows like The Surreal Life and Celebrity Poker that are a real waste of time (just like mostly all reality TV) helped put the idea in my head. |
|
| Good Charlotte – Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Normally I feel obligated to explain my opinion about a song or a band but when it comes to GC I don't think it's necessary. Worst Band Ever. Listen to something else, anything else. | |
| Brand New – Okay I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
ooo ooo, I know I'm like 2 months too late but OldSkoolRocker you gotta chill out. I love most of the bands you mentioned (Metallica pre-Black Album, Van Halen, Led Zep, Iron Maiden (!!), mostly everything besides the straight prog like Rush and Dream Theater cuz I'm big into song writing and those guys don't write songs as well as the others. They just show that they're incredible musicians; I still like them for that though). But I love Brand New too, and especially this song. This song is so much more than a whiny emo-boy complaining about his girl troubles. There is a hint of sarcasm in the tone of Jessie's voice while he sings about how fantastic he is at life and how he's God's gift to the world and that is the main focus of this tune. Faking cockiness. And no, a lot of the emo/pop-punk/punk/screamo etc genres are not the most complicated musically but what's important is song writing and getting the message across and Brand New does that better than most of the other bands they are lumped together with. If you want to bitch about talentless bands go to a Good Charlotte or Three Days Grace message board. All in all, I'm trying to say you need to diversify your tastes a little more dude. |
|
| Three Days Grace – (I Hate) Everything About You Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I don't like this song and never did. Lyrics are weak and lack any sort of depth, the music is overly simple and they just rely on one cheap hook to make sure you remember the song. This is what happens when "hard rock" is forced into the mainstream by the big record labels; any depth or substance that makes a song about relationship dilemmas truly powerful is lost to dumb it down and make it accessible to the widest assortment of people. Three Days Grace is one of the worst things to happen to rock music since Trust Company. | |
| Gwen Stefani – Hollaback Girl Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| yeah guys sorry I realllly don't like this song. Even if you take away the ridiculous lyrics, most notably spelling out bananas, I find the beat reptitive and hollow. It breaks my heart to know that this is what mainstream pop is coming to. | |
| Every Time I Die – The Logic of Crocodiles Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Even if Keith said that the song has no meaning I think there is one and it's pretty clear. It's a guy (probably some savvy businessman) propositioning a girl for sex. "love is just an exchangeof corporate documents. i've reviewed your rapport and i feel you're a prospect for mechanical salvation. this is a joint venture that will be mutually advantageous to both parties involved. technically this is just a business merger. a consolidation of liquid assets. we are respectively geared towards customer service" "we could form a strong strategic partnership" "raises are granted based on performance" Every single sentence here can be looked at as a sex metaphor; liquid assets, customer service, partnerships etc. That was the first thing that popped into my mind when i read the lyrics. |
|
| Glassjaw – Tip Your Bartender Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| i think this song is purposely the opening track on worship and tribute because it deals directly with the girl that daryl wrote most of EYEWTKAS about and is sort of the final chapter in that whole ordeal. This is the girl that I guess broke up with him when he was in the hospital with Crones disease. She was a total lush so I think Daryl is using a bar to sort of represent the idea of her and you tip your bartender as you're leaving the bar. That and the chorus "I'm not throwing stones at you anymore" all leads me to think he's not going to let the memories of her bother him anymore. He won't forgive her but he won't let it fuck with him anymore. He's moving on. | |
| Underoath – A Boy Brushed Red ... Living In Black And White Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| the songs about 2 people who engage in pre-marital sex and feel really guilty about it later. I like this band but they can be a little heavy-handed about the religious aspect of their music which to me is a bit of turnoff. I've seen them live and there was definately a few too many attempts to push Christ on the audience. Not that there's anything wrong with being religious, I just prefer the art and the religion to be a little more seperated. As I said, good band, good music. | |
| Unearth – Aries Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I'm surprised no one's commenting. The ultra-reverbed scream is a little bit overused in music today but it really works well in this song and I love it. The whole thing is really powerful and the contrast between sweet music and intense vocals is just beautiful. Favorite song on the album even though it's so different from the rest. | |
| Alexisonfire – Hey, It's Your Funeral Mama Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| i dont doubt at all that this song is about go-karting...and nothing else. Thats what I love about alexisonfire, they don't take themselves seriously at all. everythings a joke...its refreshing to see a band like that | |
| Every Time I Die – Ebolarama Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| "this is the party anthem of the new millenium" is what keith said before the went into the song when i saw them live...I think that's basically all this is supposed to be, the perfect song to party to | |
