The Canyon Behind Her Lyrics
[spoken word in foreign language]
does anybody feel this way
does anybody feel like I do x2
I built a wall
it stretched one thousand miles
set it off (it's a massacre)
it's holding up the roof (hmm...)
breastfeed your heart
set it off (set it off)
I saw a distant port
with no water to support
burning
the bridge between
does anybody feel this way
does anybody feel like I do x2
(are you)
never content nor satisfied
tension's taught itself
the massacre changed
our history
borderline paranoia
yelling at their own rights
set it off
does anybody feel this way
does anybody feel like I do
though half of me is gone
the lonesome part is there
I cannot find the other half
I cannot find the other half x2
does anybody feel like I do x2
it stretched one thousand miles
set it off (it's a massacre)
it's holding up the roof (hmm...)
breastfeed your heart
set it off (set it off)
with no water to support
burning
the bridge between
does anybody feel like I do x2
never content nor satisfied
tension's taught itself
the massacre changed
our history
borderline paranoia
yelling at their own rights
set it off
does anybody feel like I do
though half of me is gone
the lonesome part is there
I cannot find the other half x2

Dregd's mastery of poetry skills and muscial accompaniment makes this the best damned song ever ^_^!!!, btw, if anyone is interested, i think that the opening is in japanese :).
I think the song is about "buil[ding] a wall" around yourself, and not being able to break it down, because the wall supports the roof, it shelters you. Off in the distance, there is an answer, but it cannot be attained, becuase the bridge has been burned. now, you are never content with yourself, and feel like you are missing something. Like in the lyrics, it says "though half of me is gone the lonesome part is there " (amazingly beuatiful lyrics). wow.
On the last track of the album, "The Canyon Behind Her" there is a small
segment of someone talking in Japanese. When translated to English, here is
what it means:
"this album is a dream which is created by a flying bee around a pomegranate
just before waking up, based on the title of an old painting. I recommend
you to listen to el cielo as you look at the painting. It is some kind of
situation that can cause hallucination, in other words, it means that
painting is a music. "
If you read the album booklet with all the letters pertaining to Sleep
Paralysis, you can look at the painting,
http://dali.karelia.ru/images/works/1944_03.jpg
and see that the album goes along with the painting. Also, the first track
on the CD, "Brushstroke: dcbtfoabaaposba"
The actual title of the painting is
"One Second Before Awakening from a Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee
Around a Pomegranate"
If you change the "One Second Before Awakening" to the end, and take the
first letter of each word, you get "dcbtfoabaaposba"
this song is damn great!...
This song makes me die
agreed

Every time I hear this CD I go into this deep state of complete inner chaos. It's not a bad chaos though. It's this wonderfully calm nothingness that I don't even think I want to find an answer to. It's just amazing how this one single band has captured that feeling. Dredg are amazing and one of the best shows I've ever had the pleasure to witness...
dredg is the most spiritual band out there
i believe this song is about the end of a relationship and the start of a new one. i know that sounds really corny, but i think there is some evidence of it. one of the theories behind "el cielo" to me is that there is a circle of relationships that can relate to the circle of life. the juxtaposition of "sorry but it's over" talking about the end of a relationship and "convalescent" talking about dying affirms this. this song represents the death of a relationship, but is optimistic about the beginning of a new one. "though half of me is gone, the lonesome part is left. i cannot find the other half"... after that, it sounds as if the band dropped all their instruments all of the sudden, representing death. all that's left are beautiful angelic voices, bringing the dead body up to "the sky", to prepare the start of anew, a new relationship, but shown by dredg as a new life.
absolutely awesome theories. kick ass!
