WTF, This song's lyrics are perfect. I like a lot of music with complex lyrics (Circle Takes The Square for one), but Air does NOT need them. They recreate a very beautiful yet simple young love in such a beautiful way. I love this song. |

"Hawthorne Heights is not emo. It's shitty generic pop rock w/ screaming.
Stop trying to cope w/ meaningless lyrics and go listen to Saetia. "
Good man. Saetia is beautiful.
And to the guy a few comments up, no, this is not "emo" or "screamo". Being as nice as I can be, this is pop-punk. Of course, most kids have no idea anyway. I heard an argument a few days ago where some kid was like "My favorite emo band is Death Cab", and then other kid was like "No way Death Cab isn't emo, Fall Out Boy is!", which is even more ridiculous.. Goes to show how WAY off the mark kids are because they have no idea what the hell emo is. |

At about 2:20 through this song, there's sort of this breakdown/bridge thing, and it fucking rules. It reintroduces the riff that started the song, but it sorta sounds different and it makes everything sound so complete. The meaning of the song I don't know however. The song is already awesome up to 2 and a half minutes, but that bit does it for me... |

| Hot Cross – Throw Collars to the Wind Lyrics

I tried figuring out the talking bit but I can't figure out much more than i did before. "The futures never talk about our history" sounds right.
I don't know what the analogy "throw collars to the wind" would mean. I've thought it might be something like "throw in the towel", like for giving up, but I've never heard anyone use "throw collars". Maybe it's something like killing yourself, like cutting your head off or something, or suicide, especially in correlation with "16 years" because that's sort of a rough year in your life I think. Actually, ignore me, I have no idea.
Yeah, when I saw them the first time they played "Fortune Teller" and "Pretty Picture Of A Broken Face" and the second time they only played "Fortune Teller". |

My mom told me she heard that when Marvin Gaye and his ex-wife got divorced that, as part of the court settlement, she would receive all the money earned from his next single. Apparently he wrote this song and thought it was so stupid and that would completely bomb as a single and his ex-wife would end up not getting much money off of it. It actually did extremely well in contrast to what Marvin Gaye intended. |

| A Perfect Circle – Imagine Lyrics

"Aside from the five or six uncultured bafoons who don't know this is a cover at all, the rest of the people who seem to like this cover all follow a rather obvious and recurring theme. "APC is really good." And, I've thought good and long about that comment, and I offer to you this bit of advice: It's ok to not like a song that your favorite band plays. Lots of the people I talked to like it because APC covered it. Just because APC is usually a really good band, it doesn't mean that since they covered "Imagine" its going to be totally awesome. And to the people who say "I think this version is far more optimistic", I guess I just weep for you and the fact that you missed the implied irony completely."
Oh for fucks sake dude, I don't need someone telling me if I like/don't like a song. I love this song and it's not solely on the fact APC covered it. I don't know why other people hate it, but whatever.
This "implied irony" of optimism you mention is a bit stupid, mainly because you figure I must only enjoy this song because APC made it. Stop pretending you must know exactly what people should feel, because you don't know. |

"this is not a good cover, call me old fashioned, but a cover is supposed to be as close as possible to the original, a tribute to the original artist, to change his work would be an insult, thats one man's oppinion anyway"
Wrong. What would be the point of making a cover if it's going to be exactly like the original? How retarded would it be if I just played the exact same thing John Lennon did, and then still get riches and royalties from it? Duh, common sense dude.
And I'm pissed off I started reading what people said about this song because APC's cover is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. Maynard's vocals make me want to cream myself. People seem to go "But he took all the optimism out of the original!". Well, maybe it's just me, but APC's version makes me even more optimistic for a better world than John Lennon's did. It makes me go "This world is so fucked up, I wish it were better". John's did nothing for me. Not to say I didn't like his version, but for me, APC's version stirs me up much more for some reason... |

| Hot Cross – Better A Corpse Than A Nun Lyrics

|
Well, I don't know, but Billy seems to like using years in his lyrics (Running backwards through 10 years of the same course in this song; 16 years, too many with collars thrown to the wind in "Throw Collars To The Wind, etc...). The first thing that came to my mind with this song is how we're being lied to about so much (Label the lie) and that our history, as well as our future, is being completely torn apart by other people. The last line (Some guy said that the last line of almost any Hot Cross song would sum up it's meaning; this is proving to be true...) says "Better to swallow my intentions and watch the past slip away", which sort of ties into the song title (Better A Corpse Than A Nun, which I'm guessing means it's better to be dead than be controlled by other people for the rest of your life). I suppose in short, the song is about giving up. I don't know... |

I love this song. I like the background singer (he's the guitarist, I forget his name), but he's better when used sparingly.
About the song, I was thinking about the line "Please take the apple from your eye" because I was baffled by it. But, do you remember the folk tale that William Tell shot an apple off someone's head? It went something like that. Anyway, William tell wants to shoot the apple. He's blinded by desire to shoot the apple. But, "when were you this tall?". And he proceeds to misjudge how low he should shoot his arrow and shoots the guy in the head. It's silly but I was sorta proud to come up with that... |

| The Faint – Your Retro Career Melted Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
Amazingly, what mister Locust backwards said is really what I was thinking almost. It's like in the retro/newage-esque age in the late 70's/early 80's seemed to have alot of robot cameos in the songs plus it's just a fitting symbol for the "retro" style. But his popularity is declining, and so is the retro style of music. Because he is a robot, he's not grasped the concept of English quite as well as humans (although he should be better at it- ignore that) and uses words in the wrong way. He probably literally means "Your music career is falling apart", but he instead says "Your retro career melted". He starts to blame everyone and kills them all.
But then, The Faint wrote this song and people reassemble themselves and start dancing to this song.
Or something. |

Aha! My mom was complaining about music where people scream and said to show me a favorite song of mine and it's lyrics so she knew what they were screaming about, and I showed her this one and told her the lyrics were about a family who owned a meth lab and when the trailor burnt they got the drugs out but let their kids die. She asked what did the part about opening batteries meant, and I said that lithium was used in batteries (I did a project on lithium once). But, I was looking around online to prove that when I found this: http://www.drug-rehabs.org/citynews.php?state=Mississippi (Scroll down to the bit that says "Mississippi Drub Rehab and Alcohol, News"
The site fits so perfectly with the song I wonder if the band saw this page and wrote about it.
Quotes from the site:
"Deputies in Mississippi recently pulled over a pick up on a routine traffic stop and discovered a meth lab in its bed."...""A lab can actually be set up in the trunks of cars or the bed of a truck."
Quote from Japam:
"Mom's cookin' shit in the bed".
Those obviously relate. Mom is cooking meth in the back of the truck.
Quote from the site:
"Some of the common chemicals used in meth production include lithium metal, extracted from batteries"
Quote from Japam:
"Give your daddy a hand, Open the batteries like I showed you, Precious lithium"
The father is asking the child to open the batteries and get the lithium out in order to make the meth.
Other lines like "Boiling the medicine, taste it, is it done?" probably just further establish the idea that meth is being made.
The beginning of the song, about the thousand empty coors, is probably talking about how being drunk is impairing their judgment.
Now, where does the meth lab actually burn down? I don't know, "Light the propane" is my guess, and the propane caused the lab to burn down. I don't know where the kids die either... |

My view of this song is about a relationship between 2 people, not even a male and woman relationship. In fact, it seems to work better as a father/son deal or male/male deal. Anyway, one wants to control the others future and everything he does so he could be like him, but the other one has different goals on his hands and betrays his friend's want and ends up being successful, hence "I watch you shine and burn me"... |
