Pulled Under at 2000 Metres a Second Lyrics
Just freedom is only a hallucination
That waits at the edge of the distant horizon
And we are all strangers in global illusion
Wanting and needing impossible heaven
Chasing the dream as they swim out to sea
The mirage ahead says that they can be free
Become lost in delusion drowning their reason
Swept on by the current of selfish ambition
Frightened ashamed and afraid of the blame
The questions are screaming the answers are hiding
The sickness is growing distracted condition
You can feel the disgust and smell the confusion
Lying insane getting soaked in the rain
Draining the sky of the guilt and the shame
The nightmare is coming the clouds are descending
Pulled under two thousand metres a second
Clawing at walls that just slip through my fingers
Darkness consuming collapsing and breaking
Distilled paranoia seeped into the walls
And filled in the cracks with the whispering calls
Shadows are forming take heed of the warnings
Creeping around at four in the morning
Lie to myself start a brand new beginning
But i'm losing myself in this fear of living
Freedom is only a hallucination
That waits at the edge of the places you go when you dream
Deep in the reason betrayal of feeling
The mistakes that I made tore my conscience apart at the seems
Freedom is only a hallucination
That waits at the edge of the places you go when you dream ....
Freedom is only a hallucination
That waits at the edge of the places you go when you dream
Deep in the reason betrayal of feeling
The mistakes that I made tore my conscience apart at the seems

It's about how quick this world is going downhill.
Seems to be about dreaming you are drowning.
i feel this song is about how pathetic society is today. the media leads us like sheep, frightened pathetic cowering sheep, we are blind to the thoughts that are being implanted in our head. setting unrealistic goals for us "Wanting and needing impossible heaven" Freedom is only a hallucination... we think we are free because the media tells us we are. however we are only as free as they allow us to be.
Great song. To me this song's about the harsh realities of life that seem to drown you the more you try to fight them. Complete freedom is non-existent, and only in your most distant dreams you can get clear view of what it really is.
A dark, intense and beautiful masterpiece. Anathema grows on me every single day.
theses guys are my favourtie band in the whole fucking world. such rare emotions that are brought out by ambience and melodic guitar, pulled under is about the pressures of life and the constant dreaming of lost souls.
Holy fucking hell. This song is really good. The mood is very intense and anxious and the lyrics even add more to the panic of the song.
beautiful as is most of Anathema's music. i love it.
I like the newer Anathema album, but it just doesn't compare to the serenades or eternity albums.
I agree very much with ogretag and karou_nin on this one. Whether or not the image lasts for the whole song, it always reminds me of the way refugees who come by boat to Australia are treated: fleeing from tyranny, enduring horror by sea (the bassline) only to be shoved into a detention centre for years on end in the desert. It almost seems like a politican wrestling with their conscience over the issue.
