Patience and Prudence Lyrics

These are new days with old stories
So let's wash the same denial in similar patterns
Because the emotions have become mere background noise

Please take the apple from your eye
We're blinded by desire
Hey, when were you this tall?
Memory serves us not at all

"To understand me, you'll have to swallow a world."
Or maybe your words.

Either way we're up to no good, rewriting our lives way more than we should,
And only loving each other cause we've never been sure that we could
You can't control our hearts. You can't console a heart that's impossible to touch and as such
I've thrown out regret, yet may have thought about it a little too much
You find that setting standards is less like revision and more like preparation

So much like what we've heard and what we've seen.
So far from what we want and what we mean

I love this song. I like the background singer (he's the guitarist, I forget his name), but he's better when used sparingly.

About the song, I was thinking about the line "Please take the apple from your eye" because I was baffled by it. But, do you remember the folk tale that William Tell shot an apple off someone's head? It went something like that. Anyway, William tell wants to shoot the apple. He's blinded by desire to shoot the apple. But, "when were you this tall?". And he proceeds to misjudge how low he should shoot his arrow and shoots the guy in the head. It's silly but I was sorta proud to come up with that...

Billy seems to be big into Salman Rushdie. This is an exerpt from his book, Midnight's Children, "Who what am I? My answer: I am the sum total of everything that went before me, of all I have have been seen done, of everything done-to-me. I am everyone, everything whose being-in-the-world affected was affected by mine. I am anything that happens after I've gone which would not have happened if I had not come. Nor am I particularly exceptional in this matter; each "I", every one of the now-six-million-plus of us, contains a similar multitude. I repeat for the last time: to understand me, you'll have to swallow a world." Last line look familiar?

AMAZING song! This band is just as good as saetia. and as for the background singer, then you are DEAD wrong, his voice goes along greatly with the rest of the song.

This is my fave song by hot cross but I just dont see how they are better than Saetia, Saetia are way further up on the scale than hot cross in my opinion.

I starting listening to Saetia, then I started looking for new stuff then found Hot Cross. To me Saetia was way better then, Now I like Hot Cross way more.

I thought Billy sang all the vocals?

I think it has to do with the experiences everyone goes through in life.

"To understand me, you'll have to swallow a world." I think this means that you can't completely understand a person, because they have gone through different experiences in their life than in your own.

That's just what it means to me, either way.
