Come on, this has to be a drug song. The Shakespeare theme doesn't need to rule that out - I mean, who the fuck would write a song about an old play like that without it meaning something else? There's also a whole load of drugs references in there: - "you're coming down", like coming off from the drug. - "shattered windows", could be like an alphabet town sorta reference; trashy hideouts. - "her disease", could that simply be the abuse of drugs? -"I hate the one thing I need", it ruins your life, but you cannot live without it. -"I just don't trust you now baby", trust no one, only think of yourself now. -"I'm late for hundreds of things", really? a little bit unreliable suddenly? -"I'm chasing dragons down the streets", come on! chasing the dragon! HEROIN! -"My eyes are feeble and filled with poison", you're strung out and it shows in your eyes. Just my five cents. :) One of the better songs of its decade, if you ask me. Great album! |

Such a sweet tune. I thought this one should have been on the album. Obviously it has some aspects of Talent Show (or vice versa), but it would have worked perfectly as a hidden track ending the album, as an epilogue to the opener. I think it's simply about being on the road. I have heard this song a couple of hundred times at least, and will never get tired of it... |

| I also think this song is about The Walkmen. I remember there was a certain theme about a lot of this album: it's very stripped down and basic, the sleeve contains pictures of each member with their spouse and kids. To me it's about being happy about the adult life, and there's a sense of "we actually made it" about this song in particular. Well, it turned out to be their last album; this sense of full circle is there all the way through. Sweet tune. :) | |
