GREAT SONG. I've first heard it when I downloaded "Hellcats" (a chearleading serie, great soundtrack! Shiny Toy Guns' Ghost Town, My first Kiss & We are Young from 3OH!3, Rockstar from Fefe Dobson and a lot more....) And when I downloaded it, I just listened to it over and over until I memorized the lyrics. Very, very catchy. Very, very good when you feel like you're so deep down the well you'll never get out. Kidneythieve's songs are very interesting in my opinion. "Beg", "Freeky People", "Jude (be somebody)", "Before I'm Dead", they all share this slightly scary melody and lyrics. Some of there songs push this to far, but others balance perfectly on that line in my point of view. Beg is a good example. The song get's stuck in my head, that's for sure. What it's about? I think a very, very wrong relationship in which she finally sees how bad things are going. Though I think it's a strange combination: "I've had enough" "Who are you to want all of me" "It's breaking me down love" "You've taken it all love" "I think you love to see me beg" Those parts make me think it could be about domestic violence. "God damned could you show an emotion, show what you're made of" "Scream, Scream, say my name" "I'll slap your pretty face awake" That is the opposite, about a relation in which you can't take the silence anymore, the unspoken words, the gap between you and your lover that get's bigger and bigger. Which doesn't fit in the domestic violence theory. Strange song. |

I heard this the first time when I watched "Queen of the Damned". It was the first song of the Kidneythieves I heard, in fact. And I started to look for more songs afterwards, which probably says enough about my reaction. When I cut it loose from the movie, it could be about someone that is life threatening ill, whose life is fading away, a teenager probably. He/She looks out of the window of the hospital at night and dreams of all the things he/she wants to do before he/she is dead. All the things he/she is missing. The hospital picture comes from "Oceans wide of salted red", which means blood, I think. Desert skies, well, desert skies are known for their beautiful stars. Like I said, at night. The sun reclines, metaphor for life fading away? Then, there is of course the mention of the lover. Perhaps someone he/she loves but never had the chance to tell? But I can couple it to the movie really good. Becoming a vampire, being bound to the night, the blood referring to the new life, the lover of the reason why she "chose" this life. Great choice for the soundtrack. |

So why try to kill that spirit in the people that actually can do that? A lot of people are always talking about how wonderful teenage life is and that you should enjoy that free part of your life while you can. Well, hello, we are trying but (and not only parents) people try to tell us how to enjoy. That kind of sucks. Generation tells that story, if you ask me. Fighting with the white flag, saying you care and you love, but refusing to listen. And when the teenager gets mad, the parent will say that it's his/her fault and that they didn't want a fight in the first place. Like it usually goes. I read everything and I was like; I understand the relationship thing. BUT...... This will sound really stupid, but when I first heard it, it hit me because: When you're a fighter, everything can go wrong around you. Sure, it will hurt like hell, but you've got your faith in yourself en you don't give a shit about what everybody thinks. This song made me think about someone like that. Two theories: - But, someone, whetter that was a lover or a friend, crushed his/her confidence. Without him/her he/she feels like nothing. It's probably about a first love in this theory, since he/she never felt this way before. And he/she thinks about all her past dreams (graduating, leading the way, changing the world) but it all seems so empty without that special person. And when that person left him/her, life changed and everything seemed useless. - I'd like to add that in my eyes, it doesn't have to be a girlfriend/boyfriend. It could be, example, a disease that took away the strength of ones body or made someone blind. Something that made sure that none of the dreams could ever come true. And that person starts thinking what if, what if I would have done what was my plan, what if I would've graduated, what if etc. THere might be a chance for him/her to get well, so he's waiting. And waiting for the "fighting spirit" and hope to return. It's just a theory. :) (And yes, been there, done that, both, in some way...) |

A beloved family member of mine has manic depression. She talks about suicide every winter. In the summer, it becomes better. I have my bad moments myself. No manic depression, but thinking about why the hell I'm alive and what's the use, yes. But I'm confronted with it every time my sister has a downfall. It's horrible. She discussed suicide with me more then once. This song describes her feelings pretty well. |
