What If

Well, as the uploader, I guess I should take first shot. It seems to be about someone who was in a relationship and , the relationship being over, is unable to move on. It seems implied that the singer has to see his former love every day, likely on a college campus. It's actually quite sad, since there does not to be the slightest hint he will ever regain his former love.

I read everything and I was like; I understand the relationship thing. BUT...... This will sound really stupid, but when I first heard it, it hit me because:

When you're a fighter, everything can go wrong around you. Sure, it will hurt like hell, but you've got your faith in yourself en you don't give a shit about what everybody thinks. This song made me think about someone like that. Two theories:

• But, someone, whetter that was a lover or a friend, crushed his/her confidence. Without him/her he/she feels like nothing. It's probably about a first love in this theory, since he/she never felt this way before. And he/she thinks about all her past dreams (graduating, leading the way, changing the world) but it all seems so empty without that special person. And when that person left him/her, life changed and everything seemed useless.

• I'd like to add that in my eyes, it doesn't have to be a girlfriend/boyfriend. It could be, example, a disease that took away the strength of ones body or made someone blind. Something that made sure that none of the dreams could ever come true. And that person starts thinking what if, what if I would have done what was my plan, what if I would've graduated, what if etc. THere might be a chance for him/her to get well, so he's waiting. And waiting for the "fighting spirit" and hope to return.

It's just a theory. :) (And yes, been there, done that, both, in some way...)

This is my last semester in University so I can really feel this song through all my bones! For me this song is about leaving all behind and fight for the aim of graduating.

However, it is sad that in this process whereby you are becoming better a great deal of friends feel jelaous about your success and you have to leave them behind.

It is also sad the fact, that you spend a lot of time in library alone reading books, trying to design something to change the world for good (by the means of your thesis) and there is nobody around you.

The girls are interested in assholes and there is nothing you can do to change that fact.

You have to go on even though there is nobody to support your struggle...the final battle...the last round...get graduate from university!

One of the songs i like the most, especially because it fits me, and from a band that i like.

I think its a song about a broken relationship between a guy and the girl he loves. The girl used to love him, but as the time passes by, or naybe because other reasons, her love to him starts to fade, such as his dreams. And no matter what he tries to do, good or bad, she still turns her back. This songs happens when the guy is about to reach her, as before, althrough nobody got faith in him. But no matter if he will success or fail, he'll be waiting for her with open arms.

when i first heard this song i thought it meant the person was talking to there parents and were like 'what if i do this, will you be proud? but what if i dont do it? will you still be proud?' kids of thing.

This is one of my favorite SP songs...I'm surprised it doesn't have many comments.

A lot of these lines (and the tite) have special meaning with me because of an almost-relationship I had with a friend.

"Cause the world keeps turning (So why do you tell me you care if you're not going to stay?) And my heart's still burning (Why do you tell me you care?)"

I love the power in those lines. Why would you tell me you cared about me when you were just going to move on and leave me?

I think that this song is about someone, who is still in love with one of their previous boyfriends/girlfriends, and they're saying stuff , like " what if i change the world ? would you care then.. what if i graduate, will you be proud? what if i don't , will you be disapointed ? "

or my other idea was that this song could just be talking about moving on, leaving behind school/friends and etc.

Simple Plan - What If => A beautifull song, I think its one of the songs I like the most .. The intro, the lyrics .. everything's just right !!

One remark => The lyric should be 'I remember going back, to the place we use to layed' and not 'I'm never going back ..' ..

What it means .. The guy had a relation, but it wasn't going well & and stopped .. And now he is wondering what it would be if he do some stuff ( lead the way, change the world ) .. Or something like that :P

Anyway, best song ever ;-)

I would have to agree that it does speak of a relationship, but I find it's more of like a long lost memory relationship; The man in question in the song (or woman, whichever you prefer) is just starting his life, having nearing the end of some of his goals and he starts to think back on different times in his life when he had choices to make, friends to keep, friends to lose, loves gained and lost, and it all literally overwhelms him in one blow and he thinks to himself "What if it was all different... what if this changed, what if this happens, what would it be like?" He is literally (in my opinion) asking himself the general question of "What if..." It's a beautiful song because he's reached the stage every person in life goes through; a point in your life where you consider every angle and option and think "What if this changed, what if this happened?" you literally wonder what if it was different and where would you go.
