| theyre definetly not anti-God..... but i can see why you would say that it seems like it but if you try to look at them with a christian perspective (even though your an atheist) youll see what im talking about | |

BUT you didnt finish the quote from the song... "while religion tries to blame what we cannot see (demons and the like) i accept that part of the problem is me" meaning that we have a sin nature and that its not always the demons fault we sin because we do that naturally, they jus push us in that direction but WE ultimately make the choice... as i lay dying is christian and this is one of their most difficult albums to understand but once you understand that christianity is not a religion (its a relationship with God) then all the pieces fall together and everything makes sense.... as brooke reeves of impending doom (another christian band) says "i hate religion i dont need a cult" and "we will demolish this religion you have made" (quoted from children of wrath and more than conquerors) ultimately religion is a man-made thing trying to resemble the relationship between man and God (again true belief in God and His Son Jesus Christ is NOT religion but a RELATIONSHIP) |

| As I Lay Dying – Beyond Our Suffering Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| i think this song is pretty obvious..... but basically i think its saying that if you think you have it bad, think of someone whose really struggeling.... like those truly in hell.... and im not sure whether thats supposed to be a metaphor or whether hes literally talking about those in hell.... but we in america have life so easy and if one little thing gets messed up we get all bent out of shape about it but theres always someone who has it worse than you...... | |
| As I Lay Dying – The Blinding Of False Light Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"Unless followed by transformation, it is pointless to be given sight. Without the hope of our reaction, we overlook the purpose of our eyes." the first thing that comes to mind for me on this one is stated in James 2:20 "faith without works is dead" meaning that it doesnt stop once your saved... yes you will be saved from an eternity of hell (which i cannot thank God enough for saving me from) but works is a sign of the Holy Spirit working in you.... in other words good works are not necessary to be saved but its a sign you are saved.... "Now is our chance to breathe without tyranny, released from the blinding of false light. (blinding of false light) Now is our chance to breathe without tyranny. In weakness we are freed..." im not exactly when tim is referring to but its saying that now we can live the way God wants us to without the distractions of this world "I see now... I see that conformity is betrayal." Christ died and rose again for us and if we blatantly disregard that and conform to this world rather than being "transformed by the renewing of your mind" then this is betrayal "With empty eyes I looked ahead (ahead), with clarity I now look back..." all i can say is hindsight is 20/20 lol "I admit my failure. Opacity has dulled my senses. Conformity (conformity) controlled by lifeless vices. Oh... Yeah... Covetousness (covetousness) disguised as ambition. But now it ends... But now it ends... But now it ends... But now it ends, not with defeat but determination... We are freed.... Yeah..." tim realized that hes messed up because fame and money has "dulled his senses" demons are real... thats a fact... and we are constantly tempted by them... (hence lifeless voices) his want for more and more money and fame was disguised by a "noble cause" now he wants to turn around and start anew |

"None of this matters, none of these words. Common and silent we will die in this world. Weve only spoken to those who agree, and without them weve fallen on deaf ears." k i think this is saying how even though while it is still important to talk about God to believers we really need to focus on witnessing to nonbelievers..... "stand on conviction and youll walk alone" whats popular is not always right, whats right is not always popular.... "Yet solitude is better than a life not worthy of reaction. There is nothing to lose. So we stand alone or join those who follow misery." as another saying goes... i would rather be alone with Jesus than in a crowd without Him.... and also this reminds me of The Sound Of Truth when tim says "if we have chosen to live against the grain, then why are we all facing the same way?" and basically to stand up for your faith!! "for once i have stood, no one will know but alone i was born and alone we must go. fading back into an anodyne seato drown with all who've gone before me" basically tim's borrowing from 2nd Timothy saying "I have fought the good fight, i have finished the race, i have kept the faith." and now he can rest knowing he did not neglect his duty |

"While religion tries to blame what we cannot see, I accept that part of the problem is me. It was never a sacred mandate to accept conformity, through select revelations that we choose to believe." also i think this line is talking about how some people think they can do nothing wrong so they say "oh well the devil made me do it" and dont think they need forgiveness because they believe that people are good in general and its not their fault that they messed up but tim is saying that he accepts the fact that people have a sin nature |

| As I Lay Dying – Upside Down Kingdom Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"We are not forgotten, for a kingdom is offered beyond that of golden streets. We can represent now what will one day be complete." i think this is talking about how we are supposed to go spread the gospel so that others will be able to walk the golden streets of heaven.... and we can be a good witness for those who do not believe (hence "we can represent now that will one day be complete") "Simplicity is not a curse where strength is humbled and the powerless rise (and the powerless rise). This is a kingdom born upside-down. This is a kingdom where the broken are crowned" ok there are soo many references where Jesus basically says that you must humble yourself!!!! He says you must have the faith of a child, He says how it is hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven (because of their money they usually dont think they need God for anything) and the reference that i normally think of first when listening to this song is "blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth" "If helplessness is our system then were better off upside-down." this is saying how this world is broken... where the rich and powerful are exalted and the broken are cast down.... but one day this will be fixed.... im not saying that everyone who has money is evil but that many of them are not humble enough to ask God for forgiveness for their sins and if their sins are not forgiven then they will be excluded from Christ's kingdom |

| yea almost positive its about abortion....... | |
| As I Lay Dying – Anger And Apathy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| ok this songs a little hard to understand but i THINK its talking about how God wants us to not be comfortable with just the "christian routine"... you know.... go to church, read the bible, pray, and thats it... He wants us to get out there and evangelize and serve Him and sometimes He will have to get our attention..... and the more stubborn we are He might use different measures to "awaken us from the comfort of our homes" | |

i think offtehdeepend pretty much hit the nail on the head.... and i think the part about "reach out your hand only to be plagued by disease" is talking to catholics and how they think if they tell the priest about their sins that he will forgive them and in reality this is no better than telling a random person you meet on the street your sins....... (in other words it has no effect) and the "horrors and beliefs camouflaged by commonality" is talking about all the rituals of catholicism that people practice so often that it becomes second nature and they never really stop to think about what theyre doing and how the bible never says anything about them (such as praying to saints..... john was rebuked by an angel for trying to worship him but the angel said to worship God) tim mentions "whitewashed tombs" and i have no doubt that that phrase is talking about the false teachers that call themselves christians but really are spiritually dead... as Jesus said in Matthew 23, "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean." |

| As I Lay Dying – Parallels Lyrics | 15 years ago |

"We are all comatose. We are overfed and under...undernourished, yearning for something more Never starving yet never quite satisfied. Carnal but without useful flesh or mind." this part seems to be talking about how there are some preachers out there that water down the gospel so much that we are not being spiritually fed... the bible compared the Word of God to spiritual food and there are some preachers out there that dont want to "offend" anyone so they leave out certain key points and this is NOT what God wants...... "I am a walking contradiction thats found consistency consuming everything, all without producing sustenance." this is coming from that preacher that waters down the gospel and its saying how he is "without produce sustenance" "We are not the same as I hope to show. There is a better way if we just let go. We are not... we are not the same. We are not... we are not the same. Let go..." this is saying how not all Christians are the same as that "preacher" (sry... kinda weak translation) "In the tension between devouring want or simple need its clear the only lines between the ones we preserve." as the the bible says... this is not a war against flesh and bone..... we have to choose our own paths for ourselves and hopefully we will choose the one that God wants us to... we can know the one that He would want from us by being properly spiritually fed.... and as Christians we are given liberty "to the pure, all things are pure" as paul reminds us and so we must listen to the Holy Spirit to guide our lives.... |

this song is pretty much explains itself....... it first gives a brief description of war (WW2) and then moves on to say that the war that every Christian is fighting isnt a physical fight but a spiritual one and if you are in Christ then you WILL win in the end...... |

k i know that most HIL fans dont kno that some of them are actually Christian but im going to interpret the song that way... "You better buy a gun Because I've seen them watching you The old man and his son" i think that this means that the devil (the old man) and his son (demons) are watching you and waiting for the right time to pull you down and "you better buy a gun" means arm yourself!! in other words learn about the tricks satan will try to use to deceive you so that they wont work. "i dont believe in miracles but i believe in you" i think this means that a miracle wont save you from the devil's tactics but the only way to be saved from being tricked is to fully rely on Jesus Christ |

| Haste the Day – Sons Of The Fallen Nation Lyrics | 16 years ago |

the first verse sounds like it has nothing to do with the rest of the song lol "This is a celebration Of the ones who lost Their chance to die" sounds like tha rapture "I'm so tired of always letting you down Still you offer to turn it around I just can't seem to get my feet on the ground Still you offer to turn it around" sounds like someone whos become completely lost and might not even realize it but God is always there to bring them back to Him "This is your one destraction Weakening your ability to grow So you'll push yourself further away" this one is kinda obvious that this person has some sin weighing him down and keeping him from having a good spiritual relationship with God "Sever the head of a snake Lie there and wait for distraction Sever the head of a snake Lie there and wait for the pain to sink in" i think this could be a direct relation to Matthew 5:29-30 "If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell." and that means that if you have a temptation in your life that makes you sin GET RID OF IT!!! well hope this helped!! |
