Upside Down Kingdom Lyrics

Many choose to find their hope in the thoughts of afterlife,
when there is none to be found right here before we die.
So I understand the feeling of helplessness,
when we are just taught to wait here...wait here for death.

Wait here for death. Wait for this suffering to end.
Wait here for death. Wait here for death. Wait for this suffering to end.

We are not forgotten, for a kingdom is offered beyond that of golden streets.
We can represent now what will one day be complete.

Simplicity is not a curse where strength is humbled
and the powerless rise (and the powerless rise).
This is a kingdom born upside-down.
This is a kingdom where the broken are crowned.

Wait here for death. Wait here for death.
The "blessings" of excess are only a burden on us.

It is a broken system where we just wait for death.
It is a broken system where suffering can never end.

Simplicity is not a curse where strength is humbled
and the powerless rise (and the powerless rise).
This is a kingdom born upside-down.
This is a kingdom where the broken are crowned... (the broken are crowned).

If helplessness is our system then we’re better off upside-down.

"We are not forgotten, for a kingdom is offered beyond that of golden streets. We can represent now what will one day be complete."

i think this is talking about how we are supposed to go spread the gospel so that others will be able to walk the golden streets of heaven.... and we can be a good witness for those who do not believe (hence "we can represent now that will one day be complete")

"Simplicity is not a curse where strength is humbled and the powerless rise (and the powerless rise). This is a kingdom born upside-down. This is a kingdom where the broken are crowned"

ok there are soo many references where Jesus basically says that you must humble yourself!!!! He says you must have the faith of a child, He says how it is hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven (because of their money they usually dont think they need God for anything) and the reference that i normally think of first when listening to this song is "blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth"

"If helplessness is our system then were better off upside-down." this is saying how this world is broken... where the rich and powerful are exalted and the broken are cast down.... but one day this will be fixed.... im not saying that everyone who has money is evil but that many of them are not humble enough to ask God for forgiveness for their sins and if their sins are not forgiven then they will be excluded from Christ's kingdom

You dont think that it could possibly take on a more general sense rather than strictly and devoutly based on Christianity?

My interpratation of this song is that it is a piece on the clash between the western religions, their influence on society and the former owner of Standard Oil, John D. Rockafeller. Or Carnegie and US Steel. Or even Microsoft's Bill Gates, though he is certainly much more charitable then the other two of his own volition. The teachings of the judeo-christian religion are filled with preaching about how one must not put themselves first, but instead be concerned about one's neighbor. One must be humble. One must self-sacrifice now and give to others so that they may attain Heaven. So we sit here, while we are biologically alive, concerned with the 'whats next" that our faith teaches us to anticipate. And we live in fear. Fear of things we cannot see, cannot touch, taste, or feel. Words triumph over our spirit, over our minds. What if we do something wrong? That depends on your faith. What if you choose to not be humble? What if you use the mind that God gave you and attain greatness through honest means? What if you amass a huge fortune by legitimate methods? Are you evil? What if you decide to enjoy the fruits of your labor, you are no longer humble. But you are attaining Heaven before death. The blessings of excess. However, what about thy neighbor? What if he suffers and you do not? What if he is lazy, conniving, and jealous of your success? By whose authority must you share with him? Today's society demands that you do so, society's irrational theory that need is greater than achievement. If you don't share, you are vilified and labeled greedy and unaltruistic. The evil barons of industry, and their money. They should be put in their place, and share what they have with the rest of us. Taxes and tariffs and unionization see to it. The powerless inherit the powerful's success without lifting a finger. If helplessness is our current system (and we know where that's taking us, just look at the west's economies, and the welfare states we are all sliding into), then we're better off upside-down. Atleast the barons didn't give our rightfully earned awards away when they had power. Suffering can end, if only everyone were willing to work toward that end. If the meak shall inherit the earth, it will only be when they help themselves and put forth the honest effort to attain it, only then will they be powerful.
